009 | Where Your Demons Hide
Who: Everyone!
What: Emergency demon fighting
When: Late May 5-Early May 6
Where: Just outside of Tokyo
Summary: The demon from the school has reared its ugly head again and needs to be taken down.

On the evening of May 5, the Heavens suddenly receive an influx of prayers from people in and around a certain town just outside of Tokyo. There seem to be a lot of people in the area that have suddenly stopped responding normally (or at all). The situation continues to spread as the night goes on until not only is the whole town suffering from this malady, but the neighboring towns are starting to become affected as well.
With so many gods and shinki on hand - including new ones that have just appeared - the Heavens have issued a request for any available gods and shinki to go investigate what might be happening down on the Near Shore. New gods and shinki will be given the low-down on what's happening, but not much more than that.
The situation will continue to expand until just a little before dawn, when the demon finally has enough power to revive.

Drained Humans
Many humans in the affected areas are walking around despondently. Oftentimes, they are just walking into things or getting hit by things. There have been a few car-related incidents as well. Anyone who was present for the high school incident will recognize these symptoms as something that was happening to people in the school. The glazed looks, the spiritless responses and reactions. So this should be fairly familiar to some.
No One's Safe
Unfortunately, being in the town will start to wear on anyone who is there. Gods and shinki alike will find themselves growing more despondent the longer they spend in the town. All of their energy will be slowly sapped from their bodies, and shinki in particular will feel almost like their existence is draining away.
Hellish Circle
There is a large park in the center of the town. Drawn all around this park is a magic circle, large enough to encompass the whole park. There are candles around the edges of the circle, and in the center there is a cup filled with blood covered by a mask with a swirling eye pattern on it. Stepping into this circle will not only make you extremely tired and suddenly drained, but it will also bring bat-like ayakashi bearing down on you.
The Demon
The Demon itself rears its ugly head just a little before dawn, springing out from the center of the magic circle and looking right pleased with itself. It stands about 5'8" tall, so it is largely unimposing, but there is an aura about it that makes it undeniable that it is powerful. The demon will gladly fight anyone who comes at it, though most he will just shove out of the way without a second thought.

In Summary:
- Help the drained people
- Try not to get drained yourself
- Be careful about being corrupted
- Fight the demon
- Have fun~

[Yeah, that's different all right.
[The worst part of it was what a horrid kind of sense it made. This wasn't Tokyo, or wasn't the right Tokyo. She'd kind of worked out as much, really. Maybe this looked like Japan, but it didn't look right. There were... she couldn't exactly put her finger on them, but even in here things felt changed. If Doctor Bashir wasn't at home, it only made sense she wouldn't be either.]
How on earth did we wind up here, then?

I'm not at all certain. I suppose until I come up with a better hypothesis, taking what we were told at face value is all I can do.
[Which...make no sense either. But none of this really is.]
Were you told anything?

[There's - well, there's something there, Aya thinks. She remembers a large, quiet room, with white walls and gauzy curtains dancing in the breeze; she remembers a voice, she remembers the name Morpheus. There's someone she has to find, or she thinks there is. Oh, of only Ran was here! He'd help her make sense of it, he'd know what to do.]
I... well, I suppose I must have been. But I thought I was dreaming.
no subject
[Julian, though, was thoroughly awake for all of his...debrief, so to speak.]
Perhaps we are all dreaming. I've heard of stranger things.

[Aya looks away, she takes a sip of her water--
[Okay, wow, she's madly thirsty. So much so she forgets all about trying to be even remotely dignified about it. She lifts the glass again and drains well over half of it; she doesn't even have time to put it down before she's decided it would be a brilliant idea to finish it. She wapes her mouth, she sets the glass back down: she remembers the doctor, and blushes.]
Sorry. I... guess I was thirsty.

Take this one a bit slower, hm?
[He looks curious--then it's almost like something slips over his eyes, vision going unfocused before he shakes his head, coming out of it.
He can see--somehow, he's not quite sure, it was explained to him but he's a scientist and somehow 'you're a god now, you can do this' is an intensely unsatisfying explanation--the traces of medication that haven't quite cleared her system yet. Things that would be administered to people in a long-term coma. Signs of muscle degradation from long disuse.]
You could always pinch yourself to see if you're dreaming now. Not quite fool-proof, but...
[He tilts his head, asking gently:]
What is the last thing you remember, before all this started?
no subject
[Good advice, as it happens. This time, when Aya takes a sip, that's where it ends. Maybe she drank too fast, maybe she's still feeling kind of strung-out, because her stomach feels strangely unsettled, as if it's not quite... quite used to this, somehow. Maybe she should have got a drink at the shrine, after all. Hadn't wanted to spoil her dinner, and now look.
[She smiles at the advice to give herself a pinch. Remedies of the nursery. The next thing, though, what's the last thing you remember...
[Somehow, it's perilous. Painful, almost, to the touch.]
I... it was my birthday.
[Beyond that--]

[Julian leans back, studying her face for her reactions. He's not a counselor, but it's still part of his job to be able to read people. It's a skill that didn't come to him naturally, he'd had to devote himself to long practice, but he's fairly certain that she's unsure about that.]
Well, if I may wish you a happy birthday.
[Possibly belated...]

[Aya smiles; it feels like the right thing to do. She'd been happy at the shrine, even if--
[You have to think it sometime.
[Later, Aya tells herself. Not here. Not in public. Not in front of a stranger. She focuses on the water, on keeping the smile in place, on what she knows still remains to her. She takes another sip from her glass.]
Um, I know you've only just got here, but I don't suppose you've seen my brother?
