What: Emergency demon fighting

Where: Just outside of Tokyo
Summary: The demon from the school has reared its ugly head again and needs to be taken down.



On the evening of May 5, the Heavens suddenly receive an influx of prayers from people in and around a certain town just outside of Tokyo. There seem to be a lot of people in the area that have suddenly stopped responding normally (or at all). The situation continues to spread as the night goes on until not only is the whole town suffering from this malady, but the neighboring towns are starting to become affected as well.

With so many gods and shinki on hand - including new ones that have just appeared - the Heavens have issued a request for any available gods and shinki to go investigate what might be happening down on the Near Shore. New gods and shinki will be given the low-down on what's happening, but not much more than that.

The situation will continue to expand until just a little before dawn, when the demon finally has enough power to revive.



Drained Humans

Many humans in the affected areas are walking around despondently. Oftentimes, they are just walking into things or getting hit by things. There have been a few car-related incidents as well. Anyone who was present for the high school incident will recognize these symptoms as something that was happening to people in the school. The glazed looks, the spiritless responses and reactions. So this should be fairly familiar to some.

No One's Safe

Unfortunately, being in the town will start to wear on anyone who is there. Gods and shinki alike will find themselves growing more despondent the longer they spend in the town. All of their energy will be slowly sapped from their bodies, and shinki in particular will feel almost like their existence is draining away.

Hellish Circle

There is a large park in the center of the town. Drawn all around this park is a magic circle, large enough to encompass the whole park. There are candles around the edges of the circle, and in the center there is a cup filled with blood covered by a mask with a swirling eye pattern on it. Stepping into this circle will not only make you extremely tired and suddenly drained, but it will also bring bat-like ayakashi bearing down on you.

The Demon

The Demon itself rears its ugly head just a little before dawn, springing out from the center of the magic circle and looking right pleased with itself. It stands about 5'8" tall, so it is largely unimposing, but there is an aura about it that makes it undeniable that it is powerful. The demon will gladly fight anyone who comes at it, though most he will just shove out of the way without a second thought.

• Be careful about being corrupted

[She doesn't really, but she doesn't want to be asked too many things she doesn't know, herself.]

What's a shinki? [Also it hasn't quite clicked what Reika's relation to her is. She doesn't recognize her...?]

[Uhhhhhhhhhh they told her she couldn't tell Mabel anything about her life, so how does Reika even explain this? Asking a child if she's aware she's dead is a little too morbid, even for someone who's dead twice over.]

A kind of spirit. You can't tell?

I kinda got that part. But it sounds kinda specific, doesn't it?

Basically, we have to work together, that's the gist of it. For example...

[She puts a hand on Mabel's shoulder so she can teleport them to Surt's temple.]

[attackglitter]

[She blinks!!! This was not what she expected.]

Wait, but--what about the people walking into the road and stuff?! [Though... she's already feeling a little better.]

[heatupnever]

Leave them.

[She kicks her feet up on one of the benches.]

The culprit's probably just an unbelievably bad guy who'd just kill them if we got close.

I was helping all day! We can't just... leave them there!

[heatupnever]

It isn't worth it. You'll get hurt. What were you doing to help them, anyway?

[attackglitter]

I didn't get hurt so far. I was just pushing people out of roads and stuff.

[heatupnever]

To push them out of the road, you had to step into the road in the first place. Don't you think it's kinda strange for the dead to fight harder than the living?

[attackglitter]

[Her stomach plummets when it's said so bluntly. There's someone missing. Someone she left behind. A piece of her that knows to turn to someone for help who isn't there.

She's dead. And she's alone.]

They didn't know what was going on. It's not like we want to up the numbers, here.

It's not the numbers that make the difference.

[... The last time she'd tried to save people, Mina had died and Katsumi had snapped.]

I'll say it again: it's not going to be worth it.

[She sighs and picks up a pair of flashlights from beside her.]

If you really want to do this, I can take you back, but don't do any more than save those dazed people. Got it?

[attackglitter]

What else would I be doing? [It's not like she can fight.

Like maybe she will eat more candy but she's definitely going to be helping people.]

[heatupnever]

That's good, then. Catch. [She tosses a flashlight in Mabel's direction, then grabs a small metal briefcase from under one of the benches.]

Let's—

[No, wait.] Before we go, I want to check something, Hoshiki.

[attackglitter]

[She manages to snag it before it falls. Good reflexes, okay!]

[oh that's not what she was expecting. It's almost instantaneous that instead of a little kid, there's a glitter canon hanging out with Reika.

She's more than a little disoriented.]

Okay. I didn't expect that. At all.

[heatupnever]

Uh, me either.

[But apparently she can hear Mabel while she's in that state.]

... What's your status? You alright?

[attackglitter]

Well. I'm a canon, I think. [Mabel, that's not what she's asking.]

What's going on?

[heatupnever]

Beats me. Something about a vessel...?

[Something something weapon, something something name...]

I'm going to try firing you after we teleport.

[But...maybe teleporting Mabel in that form might be dangerous, so...] Mabel Pines.

[attackglitter]

[Mabel tips a little bit when she's back in her normal form. Wobbles. Catches herself.]

Oh man... next time you do that, you gotta tell me. That's... that's really new.

[heatupnever]

Alright.

[So saying, she puts a hand on Mabel's shoulder again, and off they go.]

... Feels worse than before.

[She h—Huh. She'd thoughtlessly brought the metal briefcase with her. Maybe she could've teleported the cannon after all, but just because she'd gotten used to teleporting so quickly didn't mean she could do whatever she wished with it. Oh well.]
