009 | Where Your Demons Hide
Who: Everyone!
What: Emergency demon fighting
When: Late May 5-Early May 6
Where: Just outside of Tokyo
Summary: The demon from the school has reared its ugly head again and needs to be taken down.

On the evening of May 5, the Heavens suddenly receive an influx of prayers from people in and around a certain town just outside of Tokyo. There seem to be a lot of people in the area that have suddenly stopped responding normally (or at all). The situation continues to spread as the night goes on until not only is the whole town suffering from this malady, but the neighboring towns are starting to become affected as well.
With so many gods and shinki on hand - including new ones that have just appeared - the Heavens have issued a request for any available gods and shinki to go investigate what might be happening down on the Near Shore. New gods and shinki will be given the low-down on what's happening, but not much more than that.
The situation will continue to expand until just a little before dawn, when the demon finally has enough power to revive.

Drained Humans
Many humans in the affected areas are walking around despondently. Oftentimes, they are just walking into things or getting hit by things. There have been a few car-related incidents as well. Anyone who was present for the high school incident will recognize these symptoms as something that was happening to people in the school. The glazed looks, the spiritless responses and reactions. So this should be fairly familiar to some.
No One's Safe
Unfortunately, being in the town will start to wear on anyone who is there. Gods and shinki alike will find themselves growing more despondent the longer they spend in the town. All of their energy will be slowly sapped from their bodies, and shinki in particular will feel almost like their existence is draining away.
Hellish Circle
There is a large park in the center of the town. Drawn all around this park is a magic circle, large enough to encompass the whole park. There are candles around the edges of the circle, and in the center there is a cup filled with blood covered by a mask with a swirling eye pattern on it. Stepping into this circle will not only make you extremely tired and suddenly drained, but it will also bring bat-like ayakashi bearing down on you.
The Demon
The Demon itself rears its ugly head just a little before dawn, springing out from the center of the magic circle and looking right pleased with itself. It stands about 5'8" tall, so it is largely unimposing, but there is an aura about it that makes it undeniable that it is powerful. The demon will gladly fight anyone who comes at it, though most he will just shove out of the way without a second thought.

In Summary:
- Help the drained people
- Try not to get drained yourself
- Be careful about being corrupted
- Fight the demon
- Have fun~

[Wow.
[No, uh... really, wow. A florist? Really, of all things - floristry? Ran?]
Uh... was this while he was studying?
no subject
Um... no.
[Hooboy... does he really have to talk about this? Really?]
Aya... if you don't mind my asking... what's the last thing you remember about... the world we came from?
no subject
[That question again. It's not getting any easier to answer.
[She doesn't want to think about it, about everything that's happened, everything she's lost, everything that's going to mean. Not here. Not now. Later, when she's alone.]
It was my birthday.
no subject
That makes Aya's answer incredibly unhelpful. From it, he really doesn't have any choice but to assume she doesn't know how tragic her life path is going to become. Her parents are still alive. Her brother is still by her side. Her life is still a future bright without the scream of headlights rushing towards her.]
I see... Well, I--
[No. Stop right there, Tsukiyono. You can't just escape this conversation, send the subject off to a pleasant sideline for the sake of sparing her a horrible vision of the future. Not here, when not knowing puts her at very real danger at the hands of others.]
I'm sorry... This isn't really something I want to have to tell you. But I'm afraid for your safety if you don't know.
[You have to tell her... Don't fail her the way you did Ouka.]
There are a couple of other people here besides Youji that are also people your brother and I know. People that have done some bad things, and that might hurt you, given the chance. I don't want them to have that chance.

[Aya releases a breath she doesn't realize she's been holding, and-- and that's it. That's the end of later.
[Bad things. Like - like whatever it was had broken over them both, over herself and over Ran one long evening, all dust and sun-warmed paving, and sweet summer rain and - and all they'd done was dawdle away an evening at a festival, and run home to keep from getting soaked, the same way they'd done a hundred times before, with their parents and finally, fatally without them...
[Like Ran shouting her name, and the sudden percussive shock that had blown her off her feet. Like slipping off her shoes and stepping inside to see her parents, her mother lying too still in the shadows, her eyes extinguished. Like a single, suspended moment, standing dazed and blinded and nothing to do but wait for the pain to hit, or for nothing at all. Bad things, like - like the roar of an explosion and the hiss of raindrops striking flames. Bad things, like murder.
[And Omi's eyes, achingly blue and full of concern, as he says all the right things. All the right, comfortable, stupid things you'd give - give a child, who'd seen nothing at all of how cruel the world could be...
[Bad things.]
What else do they want? There's nothing left!
no subject
Aya...?
[What does she know? Was he wrong about her?]
Hey... When you said it was your birthday...
no subject
[Bad things, he'd said. Bad people, who might try to hurt her--]
You mean they never caught them?
[And it's all she can think: that whoever had done this had missed. That they'd wanted all of them - her parents, her brother, herself. That they'd missed, and might come back.]
no subject
Y...Yes and no...
[No. Wrong, Tsukiyono. That's not helpful for her. Try again.
God, this is so awkward...!]
Look... I...
[Am an utter failure at communicating, that's what.]
This is less about what happened then and more about things that have happened since.
[There.]
no subject
[One evening, Aya: one evening. Of course there's more to it than that--
[And yet she keeps coming back to that one simple fact, that things are already about as wrong and as confusing and horrific as they could possibly get. Her parents have been murdered. What else is there to take?]
no subject
Except he can't mean that, not really. As uncomfortable as this talk is, how much worse would it be for Aya to be here alone?
She already has a blanket and hot chocolate. Is there anything else he can get for her to help make this easier? Not likely. She has every right and reason to be so upset, after all. She's lost so much, and from the sound of it--]
This must all still be pretty fresh in your mind...
[Well, of course that's how it would be. Of course she hasn't had any chance to deal with all of it. She's been unconscious ever since. This has to be the first time she's even begun to process the tragedy that's befallen her family. Suddenly, Omi gets a bit of a clue just how gigantic a can of worms he's opened.
Way to go, Tsukiyono. Now what?
For now, it seems like a bad idea to plow onward and tell her everything else. She needs a bit of time at least.]
I'm sorry.

[It's been a bad evening. When Aya had woken up that morning - she'd been excited, and why wouldn't she? It was her birthday, she was going to be sixteen: she'd opened her eyes happy and secure and cherished and loved, and now she's lost and alone and absolutely terrified. Oh, she'd grown up all right. It's a horrible, frightening, confusing mess, and her ruin's so complete and so overwhelming that a total stranger can do nothing but say how sorry he is--
[It's her birthday, and it's been the worst day of her life, and it's been going on for far, far too long.
[Her chest's tight, her breath catches in her throat; she's crying again, raw and painful and ugly. Whatever he might be to Ran, Omi is nobody to her - but everyone who had been is dead or gone, she's all out of better options and, right now, he is the closest thing she has to her brother. So Aya wraps her arms about his neck, and clings to him, and she howls.]
no subject
He's done it now. See where this has led, Tsukiyono? You went and made her start bawling and it's all your fault. Aya would probably kill him. He'd probably deserve it.
For the first few moments, he's utterly frozen. There are arms around his neck and there's wailing in his ear and teardrops hitting his shoulder. And it makes his chest and stomach hurt for her, to not even be able to comprehend the level of pain she's experiencing now, and no one she knows is around to comfort her.
Her parents are dead. Her brother is absent... he's the only one available right now. And as willing as he is to offer whatever comfort he can, it still feels horribly awkward to have put her in this position of needing comfort from a stranger in the first place. But with that in mind, being there to offer the comfort of presence is the absolute least he can do for her.
One hand finds a place at her upper back, just enough to signal to her that her hug and her crying is accepted with him. He shuts his eyes.]
Cry as much as you need... I don't mind.
[He can be here all night if he has to.]
