010 | Relief and Rescue

Who: Everyone!
What: Cleanup and moral support
When: All day May 16
Where: Just outside of Tokyo
Summary: It's time to get rid of the mess that that demon made!

The attack by the demon recently has left the surrounding area in a very sorry state. Not only are some people still hospitalized or slowly recovering from the affects of the draining of their life force, but a lot of nasty accidents happened during the time that people were walking around like they were dead to the world. It's been attributed to an odd natural disaster, and many think it may have been an illness that caused it.

The Heavens have decided to send any available gods and shinki down to help out in the relief efforts. If they try hard enough, they should be easily seen for the times when they are helping people out, so it shouldn't be a problem.

On top of that, some new arrivals have suddenly appeared. Amaterasu has left them little handwritten notes pinned to their shirts:

'These people need your help! I'm sorry to throw you into things like this, but please do what you can.

☼ Amaterasu ☼'

And yes, she has doodled little suns next to her name.

Care

There are a lot of people who were left hurt because of the incident with the demon and they are still trying to recover from it. From broken bones all the way to mental trauma, these people have seen a lot of crazy stuff and they aren't feeling so hot. Any kind of care is viable, but you might also want to just be an errand-runner in order to help the qualified people who are already doing a pretty good job of helping these poor folks out.

Food

A fair number of homes and stores managed to get destroyed amidst everything going on with the demon, so there's a lot of work for the neighborhood to do in helping them out. Whether by helping to rebuild what has been broken or by just handing out some free food to the people who need it. Of course, you might also take some food for yourself. Hopefully you're not a horrible enough person to just steal from the homeless~

Literal Cleaning

And here's where the fun comes in. The buildings that need to be rebuilt and the streets that need to be cleaned up are all under works and you can help in any way you deem worthy. You might carry loads or actually put forth the effort to help rebuild some lost homes, it's up to you. Of course, if you set about helping out in this way, you might notice little fairy-like spirits flitting around each of the Near Shore residents who are working hard to help each other out. The little spirits shine brightly and seem to shy away if approached, but they titter happily anytime the person they're following does something nice.

Banquet

After the day is done, the Heavens have a special treat set up for anyone who helped out - a large banquet in the Meeting Hall back on the Far Shore. Just like any other banquet, there is food and booze of every kind available. But also, the small tittering bright white spirits are in attendance, following around any Far Shore resident who helped out today. You might find yourself with a new friend or two who won't leave you alone, who keep giggling anytime you're kind, and who don't seem to be able to talk and only exude delight and good feelings.

In Summary:
  • Help out the people affected by the demon
  • Give out food to people who need it
  • Clean up the messes
  • Eat some good food, drink some good booze
  • Have fun~

[Hijikata looks almost embarrassed at her question, almost like he's been caught. He puts on a straight face again, as he hands over a few prepackaged meals to a harried-looking young woman.]

It's... a change. It's not the sort of work I'm used to.

[Even as Hachiman, he's used to helping people in a much less gentle way than this.]

[He'd likely have complained about it being a waste of his time, when he was younger. Now, he's sort of enjoying it.]
galactically: (I just want to see you once again)

[The almost embarrassment would've prompted a smirk out of Sheryl in not so dire circumstances, but instead she hums in the back of her throat and nods. She spares the prepackaged meals a glance before focusing on her own sandwiches once more.]

Same. I've done charity work once before, just nothing like this.

[Not the part where she gets to actually hand food out, at least. She doesn't mind doing this at all, if she gets to make a difference in people's lives this way.]

It's not bad at all.
koukai_kirai: (And I'll keep it in a bag (in a box))

[He watches the young woman wander away, not looking at Sheryl as he answers.]

...It's a good feeling. Being able to lift some of the weight off of someone's shoulders.

[He spent his whole life trying to do that in big, dramatic ways, but... maybe the little ones are sort of satisfying, too. Maybe it's easier to see the good the little ones are doing, really.]
galactically: (be good boys and girls)

[Her gaze follows his line of vision at the woman who just wandered off, and it doesn't take long for a smile to reach her lips again. Her voice is soft, expression thoughtful.]

I think so, too. Every bit of it helps, no matter how small.

[That's what she firmly believes; she can relate. Although her world has dealt with war and attacks from outer space creatures, innocent civilians have been caught in the crossfire, not unlike the demon attacks leaving the townspeople restless.]

These people need our help more than ever, don't they?

I don't know about that exactly.

[He looks around at the gathered crowd -- at how many of them are working, even now, to support each other, however tired they seem themselves.]

I lived in a village not too far from here, when I was young. It was a different time, but the people weren't all that different.

They're resilient, and they know how to look after each other and rebuild after a disaster. Even with no help at all, they're stronger than they seem.

[He glances back at Sheryl.]

...Not to say we shouldn't help, of course. They deserve all the help they can get, whether or not they'll survive without it.
galactically: (my feelings do not rest)

Rebuild...

[Sheryl continues to glance at the crowd, just one simple word murmured quietly. She's been hemming and hawing over whether or not she's willing to admit this piece of information about herself, but eventually...

Her eyes shift to one side.]

I used to come from space fleets that have been attacked before. No matter how many people were hurt or scared from them, or how much food they have to ration, they never give up trying to survive. [A slow shake of her head as she corrects herself.] No, trying to live.

[After a long, drawn out exhale, she looks back at Hijikata.]

Resilience is very important for humanity.

[Hijikata listens, looking up at the sky as she speaks. He can't imagine at all what it would be like to live away from the earth itself, but the more she says, the more it sounds like humans are... well, more or less the same as ever.]

Surviving is a lot easier than living.

But people will always surprise you with how resilient they can be.

[She's not sure if it's from how frank those words are or the experiences she once had, but she can't help fight back a grimace, a thin line tugging at her lips.

Though it's short lived once she hears his next remark, and she nods in agreement.]

Other races tend to underestimate humans from experience, buuut...

[She quickly perks herself up, sounding a little joyful this time. All this grim talk is so depressing that she feels she has to liven up a bit.]

There's a reason why humanity keeps evolving. You just can't keep them down for long.
