[open] Look for the bare necessities~
Who: OPEN OPEN OPEN
What: People teaming up to check out a giant abandoned temple and look for hidden treasure, clues or just want to get into some trouble
Where: An abandoned temple ruin in the heavens
When: June 13
Warnings: TBA
Note: This is a create-a-top-level or open/closed prompts or tag around log (mod approved!) it was first mentioned on this post!
[ Outside the Temple ]
The temple is located deep inside a heavily forested part of the heavens. Outside of the temple is littered with overgrown plants and roots and crumbling rocks and rubble. Most of it seems undisturbed and serene like no one has been this way in hundreds of years. Occasionally monkey and spider spirits can be seen crawling over cracked pillars or hiding in dark corners. Looking around you might find pictures of nameless faces etched into stone or old brass and copper coins under rocks or in the dirt. Beware of pitfalls.
[ Outer Sanctum ]
Immediately inside the temple is the Outer Sanctum which is filled with spots of sunlight. The place glitters with light from the sun trickling in from the broken and cracked roof. Pillars and walls gleam with jewels and precious stones ripe for the taking. If certain gems are disturbed you might hear slight rumblings in the distance or the floor might shake but nothing else of interest happens.
If you stay here long enough you might hear the chirping of bird spirits but there are none in sight. The birds will chatter and whisper in your ear with sing song tunes. Call back to them and they might just swoop and attack you. If killed they turn into sapphires.
[ Left Wing ]
The left wing is dark and many doors are locked or set with traps. Broken furniture litters the wing like a massive fight happened here. Dust settles on everything like a thick fog. If you enter some of the rooms you will find libraries and study halls. Most of the books crumble into dust when you touch them. There are tapestries all along the walls of a young Amaterasu. They can be taken off the walls and do not crumble like the books do. The ones that might catch your eye are the ones depicting her hiding in a cave from dark looming figures.
Dig enough through these rooms and you might find some strange trinkets:
- A branch that shakes when it is going to rain soon
- A jar of yellow ink that slowly turns black over several days
- A small leather book with several names of hafuri shinki inside
- A brass lamp engraved with a map of the heavens in ancient times when lit
- A leather bracer that gives you monstrous claws when worn
- A ring which if you put on you can’t remove but your godly power seems slightly enhanced
[ Right Wing ]
The right wing makes it hard for you to breathe inside. Some sort of shade or haze fills these halls and your head starts to hurt the longer you stay in this wing. The rooms that you find are all open and no door is locked but there are several puzzles to be found. You will find abandoned weaponry rooms and storage rooms. The strangest room you might find is the room filled with opened and empty human caskets. Many jars and old boxes scatter the halls in which some of them are broken some of them are intact.
Dig enough through these rooms and you might find some strange trinkets:
- A necklace with red jewels that seems to slightly enhance shinki borderlines
- An amulet set with a carved carnelian that makes you feel warm when you wear it
- A sealed box with no openings that sounds like there might be bugs crawling around inside
- A pouch with several mix matched diamond and gold earrings inside
- A golden statue in the shape of a praying Amaterasu
- A katana with no sheath that is broken and chipped but has a gold chain wrapped around it
[ Inner Sanctum ]
First you are met with a giant set of sealed doors that seem nearly impossible to open. The doors are covered with ancient characters that are unreadable unless you have a way to decipher it. The doors seem immovable by normal strength or magic and only by god or shinki powers once you are lucky enough to stumble on this fact or have a way to read the doors. Once you find this fact or have a way to read the messages, use a god or shinki power (of any sort) and the doors will slowly crack open to a dark Inner Sanctum.
The Inner Sanctum is one large chamber with several chairs and a large table in the center. There are melted down candles everywhere. Inside you find absolutely nothing else of interest. Hope you didn’t spend too much time trying to get the doors open, Wanderer. But does this mean someone got here before you?
Someone with a keen eye might notice the small box tucked away somewhere. Inside the box is a large glowing amethyst. If it is removed the monkey spirits outside the temple will attack everyone on sight.

OTA
Whoa...
[Felicia stared up at the ancient edifice of the temple with awe shining in her eyes, and she drinks in the sight of it the way a child would upon seeing the vastness of the ocean for the first time in their life. She had come along on this trip to help others, upon Lara's suggestion that she go for the experience, but didn't see practicality as any reason to limit her enjoyment that afternoon.
Tip-toeing around in her boots, Felicia started making a path around the perimeter of the courtyard they were in, with her gaze focused on the area surrounding them instead of what lay immediately in her path.]
I wonder how we're supposed to get ---eehh?!
[Felicia yelped in surprise when her foot snagged on a vine or tree root and she plummeted down into the dirt-- unharmed, but definitly a little more disheveled for wear.]
Oh, darn! [She huffed, pouting as she tried to get herself situated.] I just washed these clothes, too!
Right Wing
[Every step she had taken since entering the temple was made with excessive care, because Felicia knew that she ran the risk of tripping up something if she didn't think about what she was doing. Upon entering the Right Wing of the temple, Felicia found herself drawn to the various artifacts scattered about-- points of particular interest to her were the golden statue and the ragged looking blade.]
...I wonder what everything in here has in common?
[She asked mildly, leaning in closer to the item in question for further study, but being certain not to touch them.
Just in case.]
Wildcard
[Don't like a prompt? Make one up!]
Outside moving in
At least, until Felicia seems to trip and that squawk of hers immediately has Lara's heart rising into her throat. She gasps and looks over, expecting something horrible, only to find her partner just flopped down in the dirt...]
...Felicia, are you alright?
no subject
[Felicia chirped, giggling in embarrassment as she pulled herself out of the dirt and started dusting off her clothes. She had been paying attention to what Lara had told her about archaeology and ruin explorations, and had made sure that she was dressed appropriately. Even her long hair was done up in a neat bun for the sake of expedience-- but, even those little details hadn't saved her from herself.]
I'm just glad I wasn't wearing a skirt today! Now, that'd really be a mess...
no subject
It definitely could have.
[Shifting her weight, she pats her trusty climbing ax, just in case, reassuring herself that all her tools were there.]
Now, I do want you to remember what I told you. In any ruin, you need to watch your step. I don't think there'll be too much danger here, but I would rather not find out the hard way that I'm wrong. Understand?
no subject
I do...and, I'm sorry for worrying you. I saw this big space, but I didn't realize that the dangers could be out here too.
[It was the honest truth-- and she was chagrinned at making a mess of things so early on.
Stepping backward, Felicia turned to face the edifice of the temple once again to fully take in it's immencity and the delicacy of the fine details that had been carved into the stone before casting a bright grin in Lara's direction.]
Dangerous or not, this is a really neat place to find. Have you ever been in a temple like this one before?
no subject
Have I ever...
[Okay, she chuckles then, nodding enthusiastically.]
I've been in quite a few. This is not all that different from some of the tombs I unearthed on an expedition a few years ago. And while it's significantly more...Japanese...than the ones I found in Siberia, same concept.
[Stepping over, she climbs up atop a rock and looks at the main entrance, shifting her weight a little.]
We're in for a treat if this is as old as I think it is.
no subject
[She let out a little hum of excitement as she carefully followed Lara toward the entry, easily surmounting the rocks without snagging a shoe or any of her clothes as she moved.]
And it looks really old, too. How old do you think it is?
no subject
[Good on you, Felicia. Lara'd hate to have to find ways to patch up your clothes in the field.
She continues on, one hand resting casually on the grip of her pistol, eyes fixed on one of the strange ape spirits that seems to have taken an interest in the two of them.]
Strange beasts, aren't they? Wonder if they like bananas.
no subject
Felicia eyed the strange apes as well, fascinated by their presence in the wild like this. She had read about primates in books and news articles, but she hadn't seen one in-person yet.
It was truly a neat experience.]
Too bad I didn't think to pack any, [Felicia chirped.] But, they might like other snacks too.
....if you want to feed them. Should we feed them?

On the way there
[She grins over at Felicia.]
I hope we find some really interesting things inside! A real adventure.
Yay!
[Felicia grinned at Kairi as well, glad to be out and exploring a very different part of this world than the cities she had been investigating in recent weeks.]
There's going to be ruins and rare artifacts.... and, there might even be Ninjas!
[She giggled at that last note, oddly excited for such a possibility. She had no idea why she kept thinking that Ninjas were a legitimate threat, given what she knew of the current cultural and media trends, but there was a small part in the back of her mind that just couldn't let it go.]
Re: Yay!
Wait, ninjas?
[She scratches her head.]
Do ninjas really live in temples like this?
[She's not trying to question what Felicia may instinctively know the same way Kairi knew how a beach party would go.]
no subject
[Felicia couldn't say for certain-- but her mind kept jumping toward ninjas being a legitimate possibility to encounter, for some inexplicable reason.]
You're not supposed to see them or know that they're around, so they could be anywhere!
no subject
[They're Schrödinger's Ninjas. If they're good enough, you never even know they're there.]
Wow, that's really cool! Now I know.
[She folds her hands behind her back.]
I wonder how you can protect against something you can't see... it's not like we can keep our Borderlines up all the time.
no subject
[She winked playfully at Kairi-- not entirely teasing, but definitly trying to make a joke. Felicia's own talents with throwing knives would probably be helpful against ninjas. She wasn't certain, but she wasn't going to fight her instincts either.]
no subject
'Know how to defend yourself' more than just putting up a Borderline though?
[She doesn't know a way other than that one.]
You must be really good at reaction times or something, Felicia, because I can't be that confident.
no subject
[She canted her head as she regarded the girl.]
Don't you have any skills that surprised even you? I didn't know that I was good with my knives until Lady Athena wanted to practice with me.

Wrapping up?
Sure
Right Wing
There's a lot of jewels and old books everywhere. Maybe it was a god of those that used to live here?
[He makes a hmmm sound.]
But this sword is kind of out of place with that, huh?
[Sora picks it up. Because she might be careful but he's not as much. There's a clicking noise like the sword was sitting on something to weight it down...]
Uhh...
Re: Right Wing
[Felicia breathed, eyes widening as the pedestle the sword had been sitting on started to sink into the very floor of the vault they stood in. She cast a worried look at Sora as the sounds of more mechanims and gears ground into motion after centuries of waiting.]
We've got trouble!
no subject
Ahh! Abort! Abort!! Sorry, take it back!
[It’s too late though. The gears move and suddenly the entire room shifts and all four walls are slowly closing in on them. Dust and old crumbling rock starts to litter the air. Sora coughs lightly and then looks up at the moving walls.]
Oh no... !!
[They’ll need to think of something fast or they’re gonna be a couple of really cute pancakes!]
no subject
[She yelped, holding tightly onto her supplies in her panic as she watched the walls start to close in on them. She glanced around fervently, searching for a some release mechanism to halt the process, but nothing was jumping at her immediately.]
We need to run. [Felicia finally decided, glancing back at Sora with worry flashing through her eyes.] Let's hurry and get outta here!
no subject
[Sora runs for the door where they entered and pulls the handle.
It's... not working. Locked? No, can't be. Sora can unlock things. So why isn't it opening? He frantically pulls at the door handle and reefs on it with all his might.]
It's not opening!!!
no subject
[Felicia was starting to fret at those words. Surely they could get out of this mess if they thought about it, if they kept their heads...
What would Lara do in this situation?]
...Does it look like there's anything special on the walls to you? There might be a special key that we haven't found yet!
no subject
Uhh!!
[Sora frantically looks at the walls trying to pick out something, anything, that they didn't find yet. He runs a hand along one of the walls as if checking for hidden things.]
I'm not... finding anything!
[Sora clenches his teeth and looks back at the pedestal where the old sword is. What was so special about the sword...?? He runs up to it and picks it up again, fiddling with the sword.]
It has to have something to do with this sword! Why would this place not want us to move it?!
no subject
[Felicia replied, babbling as she tried to keep her anxiety under control.]
Or maybe it's so special that someone didn't want it stolen. Was there anything written around it?
