[open] Look for the bare necessities~
Who: OPEN OPEN OPEN
What: People teaming up to check out a giant abandoned temple and look for hidden treasure, clues or just want to get into some trouble
Where: An abandoned temple ruin in the heavens
When: June 13
Warnings: TBA
Note: This is a create-a-top-level or open/closed prompts or tag around log (mod approved!) it was first mentioned on this post!
[ Outside the Temple ]
The temple is located deep inside a heavily forested part of the heavens. Outside of the temple is littered with overgrown plants and roots and crumbling rocks and rubble. Most of it seems undisturbed and serene like no one has been this way in hundreds of years. Occasionally monkey and spider spirits can be seen crawling over cracked pillars or hiding in dark corners. Looking around you might find pictures of nameless faces etched into stone or old brass and copper coins under rocks or in the dirt. Beware of pitfalls.
[ Outer Sanctum ]
Immediately inside the temple is the Outer Sanctum which is filled with spots of sunlight. The place glitters with light from the sun trickling in from the broken and cracked roof. Pillars and walls gleam with jewels and precious stones ripe for the taking. If certain gems are disturbed you might hear slight rumblings in the distance or the floor might shake but nothing else of interest happens.
If you stay here long enough you might hear the chirping of bird spirits but there are none in sight. The birds will chatter and whisper in your ear with sing song tunes. Call back to them and they might just swoop and attack you. If killed they turn into sapphires.
[ Left Wing ]
The left wing is dark and many doors are locked or set with traps. Broken furniture litters the wing like a massive fight happened here. Dust settles on everything like a thick fog. If you enter some of the rooms you will find libraries and study halls. Most of the books crumble into dust when you touch them. There are tapestries all along the walls of a young Amaterasu. They can be taken off the walls and do not crumble like the books do. The ones that might catch your eye are the ones depicting her hiding in a cave from dark looming figures.
Dig enough through these rooms and you might find some strange trinkets:
- A branch that shakes when it is going to rain soon
- A jar of yellow ink that slowly turns black over several days
- A small leather book with several names of hafuri shinki inside
- A brass lamp engraved with a map of the heavens in ancient times when lit
- A leather bracer that gives you monstrous claws when worn
- A ring which if you put on you can’t remove but your godly power seems slightly enhanced
[ Right Wing ]
The right wing makes it hard for you to breathe inside. Some sort of shade or haze fills these halls and your head starts to hurt the longer you stay in this wing. The rooms that you find are all open and no door is locked but there are several puzzles to be found. You will find abandoned weaponry rooms and storage rooms. The strangest room you might find is the room filled with opened and empty human caskets. Many jars and old boxes scatter the halls in which some of them are broken some of them are intact.
Dig enough through these rooms and you might find some strange trinkets:
- A necklace with red jewels that seems to slightly enhance shinki borderlines
- An amulet set with a carved carnelian that makes you feel warm when you wear it
- A sealed box with no openings that sounds like there might be bugs crawling around inside
- A pouch with several mix matched diamond and gold earrings inside
- A golden statue in the shape of a praying Amaterasu
- A katana with no sheath that is broken and chipped but has a gold chain wrapped around it
[ Inner Sanctum ]
First you are met with a giant set of sealed doors that seem nearly impossible to open. The doors are covered with ancient characters that are unreadable unless you have a way to decipher it. The doors seem immovable by normal strength or magic and only by god or shinki powers once you are lucky enough to stumble on this fact or have a way to read the doors. Once you find this fact or have a way to read the messages, use a god or shinki power (of any sort) and the doors will slowly crack open to a dark Inner Sanctum.
The Inner Sanctum is one large chamber with several chairs and a large table in the center. There are melted down candles everywhere. Inside you find absolutely nothing else of interest. Hope you didn’t spend too much time trying to get the doors open, Wanderer. But does this mean someone got here before you?
Someone with a keen eye might notice the small box tucked away somewhere. Inside the box is a large glowing amethyst. If it is removed the monkey spirits outside the temple will attack everyone on sight.

...Whoa.
[That's the first thing Nephenee can really say about this place, as she takes it all in. It reminds her of some places back home...including the idea she should be careful. Places like this tended to be rickety at best. Lots of light steps, which might be surprising considering she's wearing at least twenty pounds of armor, it seems.
When she's not testing the floor with a lance butt, she's trying out her powers to see if those plants are hiding anything.]
[Outer Sanctum:
Once they make their way inside, Nephenee's more than a little struck by all the sparklies around. Who the heck sticks gems on walls?? While she's interested in those a bit just for the purposes of getting to where she's not worrying about cash frequently, the birds catch her ear more.]
What a nice song...
[She whistles back a tune of her own, wondering if the birds will respond in kind.]
[Left Wing:
Oh, hey it's kind of dark in here. Let's put that lantern on her belt to good use...and once it's on, she's frowning at the mess in here. Not because it's a mess really, but because this place got trashed.]
Goodness...what the heck happened here?
[Besides what seems to be blatantly obvious.]
Outer Sanctum
[It does sound like a good tune, though he's not sure whether or not birds will appear.]
Outside
[But then Kairi's used to the temple of Artemis which is literally surrounded by trees. Then she points out a brass coin on the ground.]
And there's... money?
Whistle time
[He didn't know she could whistle. Maybe bunnies will show up instead of birds?]

[Izumo can be spotted in the Outer Sanctum, peering up at the cracks in the roof before he decides to look at everything else. Jewels and gems that were seemingly up for the taking?
He’s not buying it.
He lights a cigarette, tendrils of smoke curling in the air. When he hears the bird calls, Izumo instinctively tries to search for them. When he sees nothing, he blows up a ring of smoke into the air and whistles.]
[Left Wing]
[He crouches down beside a fallen tapestry, eying the other items in the room.
It seems nothing of interest, but Izumo couldn’t help but feel a spark of curiosity upon seeing so many different tapestries depicting Amaterasu.
It made him curious enough to go farther into the room, hoping to find something of further interest.]
[Inner Sanctum]
[Izumo has a thoughtful look on his face, cigarette hanging from his lips as he places a hand on the sealed doors.
It doesn’t seem to be anything remotely special other than the fact it won’t open.
He scans the room, trying to find something that would help him in opening the doors, but nothing seems to be of use. Izumo hums, pulling his hand back as his Aura decides to flicker, a dim red illuminating the room.]
Inner Sanctum
Izumo! You know, smoking is really bad for you.
[He grins and then looks up at the giant doors.]
Find anything out?

[Sora’s been around the perimeter a few times with just him and his dream eater. They spotted a lot of the monkey spirits but they never managed to get close. But right now, one is staring right at him and sitting right there. Sora kneels on a knee and holds his hand out.]
Think he’ll let me pet him?
[ Outer Sanctum ]
[Sora lets out a low whistle at the first room and entrance to the temple. The shinning of the sun filtering through and bouncing off all the sparkling walls really is something.]
Wow, it’s really like something out of a storybook in here.
[The soft trill of a bird echos overhead.]
Did you hear that?
[ Right Wing ]
[The hazy gloom in here makes it a little hard to focus on what is around. It makes his head feel all fuzzy-like. He reaches up to rub his temple and winces slightly. Once the pain subsides a little he opens his eyes and reaches for the door to one of the many rooms.]
Wanna try this one? Maybe it’s not-
[As he speaks he turns the knob and it clicks open.]
Locked?
[Well that was easy...]
Right Wing
[Sannan almost didn't want to show up today, not after his shinki had disappeared. But he told Sora he'd be here, and honestly he would probably spend the day worrying to the nines about the kid.
Still, it wasn't pleasant to explain to Sora that his shinki had vanished. But true to form, he'd kept his sadness hidden with a smile. Yamato wouldn't want him to linger on the past either.
He's been exploring rooms with others or by himself, and it so happens that he stumbles on Sora about to explore the Right Wing.] Be careful. There might be pitfalls in there, just like the outside.

Wait a sec. Put this on. [It takes only a moment for him to pull two masks from his bag.] They’re more meant for keeping you from getting a cold, but maybe they’ll help against whatever this haze is.
[His own eyes are narrowed against the onset of that fuzzy feeling as he tries to focus. Speaking a bit more loudly to be heard through his mask he adds,]
And once you open that door, step back for a bit. Lara-sama said that old air is dangerous.

outer sanctum;
He grins at his friend's enthusiasm.]
Yeah, Sora. Apparently a bird got inside.
[He looks up at the ceiling above, trying to see if he can spot the creature.]

So late in here orz
So when they reach the right wing, Yuto narrows his eyes and looks around, even more cautious than always. Then he frowns in concern when he catches Sora's wince.
But he doesn't like the fact that Sora reaches to open the door so recklessly.]
Wait-!
[He catches his friend by the arm but too late. The door is already open.
Yuto sighs and narrows his eyes again this time while looking at Sora.]
It's too easy. We have to be extra careful.

[The Outer Sanctum… sure was shiny and glittery. At least the jewels were. So many of them, too. Why and how were the pillars and walls covered in them? It was overkill.]
You think some kind of god of jewels lived here?
[Was there someone like that? Roxas can’t remember at the top of his head. Sora probably wouldn’t know either. One of the few times that the blond chides himself for not paying more attention to other religions. Chirping catches his ear after a moment and he looks up.] Birds?
[Right Wing - OTA]
[Coming into this part of the temple one his own after parting with Sora after their exploration was a mistake. It was like the Pejite Mines of Koriko all over again. Roxas’ head was slowly hurting more and more, but no, he’s determined to find something in one of these rooms. The jars and boxes in the hall are largely ignored because what is the fun in exploring obvious things. The first storage room he comes to catches his attention.
If you come across him, Roxas will be rummaging around, trying to see if there’s anything of worth something anywhere in this room. Who cares if something gets broken along the away. He’s not an archaeologist… doesn’t even know what one of those is if asked.]
[Outside the Temple - OTA]
[Resting out here was the smartest decision to make after that monster headache from the right wing. Roxas is resting against a wall outside, ignoring the monkey and spider spirits around him. It wasn’t hard seeing as he’s used to spirits. The part bothering him? All those faces…]
This place is kinda creepy.
[As he feels better, he’ll start walking around, looking under rocks when he finds a few coins. No, he’s not too aware that there might be pitfalls around here. Just that there’s things to find if one looks hard enough. In a way pitfalls are interesting to if you’re looking to watch someone fall into one. Or maybe warning him might be a smarter idea.]
[Wildcard]
[Hit him up with anything!]

[Sora spins on this spot, taking in the place with a look of awe on his face. Everything is sparkling. He walks up to one of the many pillars and touches a gem embedded there.]
I wouldn't doubt it, look how many of them there are!
[He catches the bird sound too and looks up.]

[While people are starting to move inside, Axel's still standing outside the temple, sizing it up. It's very strange - monkeys and spiders? Some kind of jungle god, maybe... Either way, this place is eerie. He turns to the nearest person and calls out.]
Hey! Do you know whose temple this used to be?
[Even as he's shouting, he approaches his target.]
Do you think it's booby trapped?
[Outer Sanctum]
[Chipping out a particularly large red gem starts a rumbling a long distance away, Axel quickly discovers. Maybe this is a bad plan, to go for more... He looks up at the sounds of the invisible birds, but pauses before commenting.]
This isn't creepy at all, now, is it?
[Left]
[Here Axel can be found wandering from door to door. He's an assassin, but he's not the best at identifying traps, so he's already got a few cuts on his arms. Hopefully they're not poisoned. Hopefully. At the moment, he's between doors, studying a tapestry.]
[Right]
Ergh...
[Axel's starting to get a headache, but these rooms are just too weird. Coffins, weapons, what next? Though digging through them is starting to get tricky...]
Maybe we should stop.
[Inner Sanctum]
[Here, before this great door, Axel's thinking. Not moving, not talking, but thinking. He can't decipher these words, but maybe there's some hint in the setting. Doors... in an abandoned temple... The god must've been able to open them. Maybe they only opened for him?]
... I'm stumped. You got any ideas?
[ Outside ]
Mmmmmmm...beats me! It looks super old though so I bet whoever it belong to has been gone a long time. I don't think they'll mind if they've left it alone this long, right?
[But at the mention of booby traps, Goten perks that much more]
Maybe! What kind of booby traps do you think there are? Maybe there's a big monster or something inside!

Whoa...
[Felicia stared up at the ancient edifice of the temple with awe shining in her eyes, and she drinks in the sight of it the way a child would upon seeing the vastness of the ocean for the first time in their life. She had come along on this trip to help others, upon Lara's suggestion that she go for the experience, but didn't see practicality as any reason to limit her enjoyment that afternoon.
Tip-toeing around in her boots, Felicia started making a path around the perimeter of the courtyard they were in, with her gaze focused on the area surrounding them instead of what lay immediately in her path.]
I wonder how we're supposed to get ---eehh?!
[Felicia yelped in surprise when her foot snagged on a vine or tree root and she plummeted down into the dirt-- unharmed, but definitly a little more disheveled for wear.]
Oh, darn! [She huffed, pouting as she tried to get herself situated.] I just washed these clothes, too!
Right Wing
[Every step she had taken since entering the temple was made with excessive care, because Felicia knew that she ran the risk of tripping up something if she didn't think about what she was doing. Upon entering the Right Wing of the temple, Felicia found herself drawn to the various artifacts scattered about-- points of particular interest to her were the golden statue and the ragged looking blade.]
...I wonder what everything in here has in common?
[She asked mildly, leaning in closer to the item in question for further study, but being certain not to touch them.
Just in case.]
Wildcard
[Don't like a prompt? Make one up!]
Outside moving in
At least, until Felicia seems to trip and that squawk of hers immediately has Lara's heart rising into her throat. She gasps and looks over, expecting something horrible, only to find her partner just flopped down in the dirt...]

[This was really Lara Croft in her element. Yes, she could fight monsters, yes she could could and pretend to be sociable with people, but all of that was just something necessary to exist here. She didn't care for it, she didn't love it, she just did it to fit in and find a way back to her true love: exploration. She was ready for this trip, probably overprepared. A bow, a quiver full of arrows, a climbing ax, a coil of rope, and even chemical lights and a handgun strapped to her backpack may seem out of place when compared to the array of people here but this is how Lara rolls.
Staring up at the temple entrance, she breaks into a wide, breathless grin.]
My God, it's beautiful. So well preserved. How long d'you think it's been since people came down here?
Left Wing: Roth Trained Me Well
[Holding up a chemical light, a weird green glow ensconcing the entire room, Lara walks in a slow circuit. Taking in everything is hard, but she closes her eyes and starts to concentrate, breathing in and out slowly before reopening them. To anyone observing, it might seem she was falling asleep, but to Lara it was different.
She could feel things standing out, things of note, or where they might be, anyway.]
Could you...please take a step to the left?
[Her voice has a dreamlike quality to it, but it's definitely direct at you, if her eyes are any indication.]
Inner Sanctum: I'm Not Indiana Jones
[The doors were an interesting puzzle, but not completely unsolvable. Unlike a lot of previous adventures, Lara wasn't pressed for time. She could slowly approach this task, and seems to be doing that, running her fingers along the carved stone letters, studying them carefully.]
This isn't Japanese. It's not Chinese either. But it's similar.
[She looks up.]
Is there any more writing around here, anywhere?
Wildcard
[I can work with any of the rooms. Feel free to hit me up if you want one of those instead!]
Outside/Wildcard
A few hours?
[She laughs though. She knows that's not what Lara meant.]
It's nice to see you again, Lara. You look... prepared!

[A shrill scream pierces through the air, long and wailing and decidedly feminine. The source is Nami cowering back against a tree from a tarantula-sized spider spirit haplessly exploring the temple wall in front of her. Threatening her? Nope, in fact it barely seems to be paying any mind to her.
But it's there and it's creepy and it could totally eat her hand. Screaming is completely warranted.]
[ Left Wing ]
[The locked doors aren't much trouble-- in fact Nami has barely noticed them. They open with ease for her. She creeps through with her eyes and ears alert for traps.]
How old must this temple be for the books to just crumble like that... Ah! Look at this.
[She just found the tapestries of Amaterasu.]
[ Inner Sanctum ]
[Well this just bites! They finally made it all the way to the center and there's still no mountain of treasure! It's just a near-empty room.]
What kind of temple is this?! What a rip-off.
Outside
...
Wait, what are they screaming at?]
What is it?! Is it dangerous!? Step back!!

The left wing is dark.
That’s all that Yukine needs to know for him to hesitate taking even one step further in there. But he’d overheard some of the others complaining about all the disintegrating books there, and he's become curious if any of them are salvageable. And even if they aren’t, perhaps there’s something else interesting in a place that used to be like a library or office.
Frowning into the darkness of the left wing, Yukine sighs tightly. He wants to go see… but.

Left or Right.
He stands in the middle of the room, glancing to the right and then turning to the left as he tries to decide which one to go first. It's when he's looking towards the left wing he spots the older shinki. Is he trying to figure out which way to go? Exploring alone isn't as fun as exploring with a friend so Goten makes his way over.]
What do you think is down there?
[Goten reaches up a little to grab a hold of Yukine's right sleeve, giving it a small tug]
It's pretty dark huh?

[ This is pretty exciting, this whole animal ghost thing and exploring abandoned temples thing feels brand new. It might not be, but it feels like it is.
He's got way too much energy and is already looking around with that energy, making his way up on top of the temple because that's obviously what one should be doing. Somebody stop him before he disappears from the group while following an animal ghost or does something else equally stupid. ]
[ Outer Sanctum ]
[ D2 has his phone out, and is taking lots of photos. Not all of them turn out great but he's getting a fair share of good shots. He practically bounces as he takes photos of all the sparkles and ruin and everything. ]
This is amazing, it's so pretty and beautiful.
[ Right Wing ]
[ There's a lot of interesting things here, coffins that he's peeking into included. ]
I wonder what got up out of these and started walking?
[ The zombies he was told about? ]
Outside the temple
[Kairi's the last person to dissuade him from wandering off, as she's done a fair bit of wandering as well.]
Hey, D2-
[She says it in a slightly softer voice - like it's a whisper.]
You wanna get a dozen hugs at once? These little monkey things are super friendly!
