Is your phone not picking up on your carrier's signal? Usually if you go to fast food joints or coffee shops they're open access.

I don't have a carrier yet. [ Or more likely, the one he did have doesn't seem to exist in this place. ] But I'm planning to get one soon, once I find a part-time job.

Right now I'm trying to locate an art shop somewhere around here.

An art shop? I didn't think you were the crafting type.

I'm not-- at least I don't think that I was. [ But who knows? He found out recently he can cook, so maybe there are some crafty skills he's not aware of. Not really likely though. ]

We're on official duty. Helping a student get into an art school. He lives quite far away from here and is on a tight deadline. It was better to let him work on his assignments for portfolio, and have someone else run for supplies. Unfortunately he failed to provide good directions for shops I'm supposed to check. [ not that anyone asked for an infodump ]

Are you taking prayers with your god? Is he a painter or another kind of artist? There's a couple of good art supply stores around.

Can you point me in the direction of any of these? [ he's been trying to locate their addresses on the internet, only internet keeps dying ] Are you here for similar reasons?

[ There are probably tons of students on that deadline right now. Some of them could pray to a different god. ]

I was thinking local delivery. What about you?

Ah. [ beat ] I haven't given it much thought yet.

Mostly because I didn't realize there was such possibility. I understood, perhaps wrongly, that we're discouraged from interacting with living, outside official line of duty.

It seems like we're allowed, it's just difficult for them to notice us.

I see. So work with minimal contact would be best. [ choosing deliveries make a lot of sense in that case ]

It'd probably be hard for us to work as cashiers or something along those lines.

Working remotely could be an option too. It gives less opportunities for patrolling the Near Shore though.

That's true, but I don't really have that many marketable skills. Since it doesn't seem like there are any visible monsters type threats to Near Shore residents.

Delivery seems doable. [Especially because he's still a teenager and he was still in high school before all of this happened.]

Actually our last prayer was getting somebody a job. If you know what you're looking for I have a book filled with places that have positions.

I'll probably need some time to figure out what kind of useful skills I might have. [ that are not setting things on fire ]

I know how to fight, but that's hardly something to put on a CV. Cooking also seems to come naturally to me. [ small shrug. what a useful set. ]

In any case, I can always learn a new skill.

Yeah, I can too, but I don't think that many people are looking for fighters.

Oh, maybe a cook? But then again you'd need to talk to a lot of people, and it'd be weird if the backroom workers couldn't see you...

Exactly. Even in a small restaurant it could pose a problem.

There is always a security guard job. Night-shift wouldn't bother me. [ and it doesn't require much interaction with people. Aside those who try to steal something, but he would take care of them. ]

[ They reach the art-shop and there is colorful information on the door saying the shop opens new service soon! If you live in nearest districts you can make online purchase and get your supplies delivered in less than 24 hours. Genos just points at it ] Look, they just might need a delivery boy.

Oh, that's not a bad idea. I'm probably too young to do that one though. [Fifteen is way too young to be a security guard, no matter what skills he might have.]

If they haven't hired for it yet. It doesn't hurt to go in an ask, anyway.

That you are. I was considering that option for me. [ why all art shops just so... full. Navigating between shelves without knocking something over is such a pain. Especially when there is whole wall full of paints, and you're searching for 3 very specific colors.

The woman behind the counter of course doesn't notice them, and she keeps reading her book waiting for more visible customers ]
