I don't know, but I'm not planning to stay here forever. If finding a way back home has to wait until we find whatever's bringing us here, so be it, but I'll get back one way or another.

I don't need luck. [Determination is his usual standby, and it's been doing him reasonably well so far. The main issue is their complete lack of information on what's bringing them here.

While Wendy occupies herself with the wish stand, Shun stands to one side, considering the question.] I suppose it depends. Some of them might come from worlds with different afterlives they want to go back to. Some...might find a way to get a second chance.

[The hesitation in that second statement is only very brief. It's a wish, more than anything, because Shun doesn't want to leave Yuto behind in this place when he returns to his own world.]

Honestly, I don't mind this afterlife. It almost makes me wish that I was one of those regular shinki to the old gods. Although they seem kind of dumb sometimes...

[Humming, she starts to write down a wish.]

Suijin and Bishamon aren't bad - hell, even Amaterasu isn't, she's just inexperienced. I wouldn't envy anyone ending up with Fuujin or Raijin, though. I don't think anyone would force you to go one way or the other if you had to choose between staying or returning, anyway.

[Gods are one thing, but shinki might have nothing left for them at all where they came from. It'd be impossible to validate forcing them to go back if they didn't want to die in the spiritual sense as well.]

Suijin, Bishamon, and Amaterasu... Got it. [Even if it doesn't look likely that anyone will figure out what's up with the mystery of this place, it'll be good to keep in mind anyway.] What's up with Fuujin or Raijin?

Fuujin's an idiot and Raijin acts like he barely deigns to talk to us. I haven't found a reason for either of them to be worth dealing with so far.

[There's an extra note of dismissiveness to his remark on Fuujin, since he particularly dislikes the guy. Raijin is more frustrating than anything, and he's only met him the once.]

But no one has to deal with them, right?

[Carefully finishing one strip with her tongue poking out, she looks at him.]

Or are they everywhere for you gods?

Depends. Sometimes the older gods ask people to meet with them, so if either of them did anything like that I'd probably be obliged to at least show up.

[Even if the immediate reaction might just end up being him walking out from refusing to deal with either of them. At least Suijin is tolerable conversation.]

I hope they just invite other gods and not shinki.... I don't need that kind of annoyance in my life.

[Finishing what she's written, she blows on the ink carefully to help it dry.]

I got asked to bring my shinki last time, so if they invite your god there's a good chance you'll have to go.

[At least they've only asked him the once, so that's something.]

I don't have anything to write down right now. And I'd rather do that sort of thing in private, anyway. [Ignoring frivolous wishes means anything he writes down is likely to be fairly close to the heart, so he'd rather not have anyone hovering over shoulder while he does it.]

[And with hers done, she goes to smack it on the bamboo.]

Still, it's pretty fun. There's something nice about a silly thing bringing everyone together.

[There's a somewhat noncommittal hum at that, though it's edging on displeased.] Bringing people together is fine, but I prefer not having to be there when it happens on this scale. There's too much to pay attention to.

[It turns into an overload for someone as intent to focus on everything he can as Shun is.]

[A blunt answer as she turns around.]

That's why all of Amaterasu's shinki are here, right?

I can't just not pay attention to things, any more than someone can choose to stop breathing. It starts again without me thinking about it. [It might be a bit of an excessive comparison, but it's also the most accurate one Shun can think of right now. It's an ingrained behaviour, and one he can't really control without actively forcing it.]

And you won't learn to ease up because you might go back home. [At least she's caught onto that quickly enough.] Still, that doesn't sound like the greatest life to lead.

What if you never end up back home?

Exactly. And I can deal with it. [It's a bit of a catch-22. If things were resolved back home, Shun would be more open to change, but as it is he's set to head right back into the middle of a war.

[An unapologetic shrug comes in answer to that observation. That's one of the first things people tend to learn about him, after all.

The offer, though, has him looking a bit more stumped, like he's trying to read some ulterior motive into it.] I thought you'd want it.

Yeah, but I have go get running back to the temple, and I shouldn't eat too much if I'm going to perform.

Besides, I got it more for both of us than anything.

[The performing thing makes him raise a brow slightly, but he doesn't ask, since it's not really an area of interest to him as much anymore. Nonetheless, he accepts it as an adequate explanation for not wanting more food, even if he still looks not the most understanding of the idea that she got it for both of them.]

Then it's fine. Go do whatever it is you have to do.

[Smiling, she turns away and waves over her shoulder at him as she makes her way to the nearest Apollo shrine.]

[Raising a hand in some semblance of a returned farewell, he half-turns back towards the festival before thinking better of it and heading off to a quieter part of the celebrations for the moment.

He doesn't finish the takoyaki for a while after she leaves.]
