It's just a courtesy call

Who: Izuku, Lavi, Yoon, Scully, and You
When: July 6th
Where: The Far Shore
What: Lavi’s taken on a personalized mission. It’s time to research some acid-proof materials.

After receiving the request from Orihime, Lavi’s decided that there are some people he believed would be able to help him make this task just a little easier. So, it isn’t hard at all for him to send them a simple text:

Hope you guys aren’t busy, but I’m hoping you’d guys be able to help me out with researching for acid-proof materials.

This one goes by the brand name 'Kermel.' It's better at creating a barrier against chemicals soaking through, but it can't hold up against hot acid or strong alkali very well. This one is flame retardant viscose, and it isn't a chemical barrier...

[She switches over to another page. This picture is of a fluffy fiber that looks more like cotton.] But it's more resistant to acid.

So if you sandwiched that as a filler layer between layers of Kermel, then --

[She glances up, and adds, a little dryly:] I'm not an engineer and I don't think I'm a chemist either, so you should probably test this before you do anything dangerous with it.

Lab safety I do seem to know a thing or two about.

[Why, she can't say, and even saying that much leaves her a little uncomfortable. She shakes it off and puts her phone back into her blazer pocket, glancing up at his face.]

All you should need to test it is a sample of the acid.

There are chemical supply companies... you said you didn't know exactly what kind of acid it's supposed to resist, didn't you?

[She frowns in thought.]

What is this clothing for?

[That's a warning note in his tone, but Scully isn't sure why. What kind of issue with acid requires protective clothing when he doesn't know what acid it is? Is this some kind of weird mythological occurrence, something like Loki and the snake?

She eyes him uncertainly for a moment before giving up with a small shrug. He doesn't want her to ask, and she doesn't need to know.]

They make protective clothing out of these kinds of fibers already. You could buy a jacket and see if it works for her purposes first.

Then you might need to switch to more resistant materials. Or coat the whole thing in Teflon.

[She frowns thoughtfully.]

It really does depend on the acid. The trick is getting a material that's soft enough to make into clothing.

It could be. I don't know anything about magic.

[Science, yes. Science she seems to be pretty comfortable with, but all of the less physical dimensions of an afterlife working for the gods? Not so much.

She figures she'll work it out in time, but as it is, she's barely comfortable with being able to cast borderlines. Anything beyond that she's content to leave to the experts.]

Lady Orihime? You mean, the one the festival is about?

[The weaver? Scully's seen her around, but hasn't spoken with her directly yet. It's a bit of a surprise to hear someone talk so casually about handing materials over to her.]

... I'm sure she knows more about magic than I do, anyway.

[She looks a little dubious for another moment before smiling.]

Probably.

Do you need me to write down the fiber types? [Or will he remember them?]

I wouldn't have asked if I couldn't.

[She pulls out her notebook and scribbles briefly, checking her phone again and adding the manufacturers' websites in a footnote before she hands the scrap of paper over.]

Let me know if it works out.

It's no problem.

[She tucks the notebook back into her pocket, smiles back at Lavi, and turns to go.]
