After receiving the request from Orihime, Lavi’s decided that there are some people he believed would be able to help him make this task just a little easier. So, it isn’t hard at all for him to send them a simple text:

Hope you guys aren’t busy, but I’m hoping you’d guys be able to help me out with researching for acid-proof materials.

He gives him an amiable smile at least, hardly apologetic about possibly ruining your day.]

[After what could have been a potential long day, Lavi's figured gathering everyone in the library after finding some sort of information would be a good way to find out just what it is that can be used.

Lavi himself is waiting patiently, flipping through a book as he waits for everyone to come.]

[Acid proof materials... Truthfully, he's not the correct person to ask this. Hatsume in the support department has a much better grasp of the subject of designing materials for potentially corrosive quirks like Ashido's.

But if Lavi's going to ask him about something like this, then of course he's going to look into it.]

I'm not sure how helpful what I learned is.

Well, anything is better than nothing.

[Lavi puts down the book, smiling at Izuku.]

[He'll take a seat nearby and rub the back of his head.]

I have a classmate that uses acid, but she's not here.

[He looks interested.]

Really? Was there anything special she had to use when she uses acid?

She had... special boots, I think? And an outfit that was made specifically for fighting. So it's all acid resistant.

Guess it's safe to say you don't know how they made it that way.

[Scully's going to be showing up bright and early, scrolling earnestly through articles on her phone and muttering to herself.

She glances up just before she would have run into the library table next to Lavi, and launches straight into practicalities.]

What kind of acid does it need to resist and what's it going to be used for?

Not that Lavi minds.]

I'm not completely sure about what kind of acid, but it's going to be used for clothing.

Right, in that case...

[Tap, tap goes her thumb on the screen, and she tilts her phone in his direction.]

There are a few different synthetic fibers that have decent acid resistance. [On the screen, safety-orange fluorescent strands wind around a mechanical bobbin, glittering as they dry.] And it'd have to be made watertight to avoid the liquid soaking through to skin, of course....

[...Scully, he's impressed.

He eyes the screen, reading what's on it.]

I didn't think there'd be fibers for that. [He sounds like he's almost in awe. Then again, he doesn't have enough knowledge in science like she does.] What're these called?

This one goes by the brand name 'Kermel.' It's better at creating a barrier against chemicals soaking through, but it can't hold up against hot acid or strong alkali very well. This one is flame retardant viscose, and it isn't a chemical barrier...

[She switches over to another page. This picture is of a fluffy fiber that looks more like cotton.] But it's more resistant to acid.

So if you sandwiched that as a filler layer between layers of Kermel, then --

[She glances up, and adds, a little dryly:] I'm not an engineer and I don't think I'm a chemist either, so you should probably test this before you do anything dangerous with it.

[He listens to her, bemused.]

Is it possible to even test it out against acid?

[He's not going to use his goddess to test something out that can potentially be dangerous.

Though, at her explanation, Lavi looks at her.]

You definitely sound as if you know what you're talking about, though.

[Finding herself in an unfamiliar city, Celty was taking the time to explore and learn the lay of the land. It bothered her to be doing it on foot though. She didn't know why she arrived here without a motorcycle or horse or whatever she used to be a headless horseman, nor how she'd go about fixing the problem of simply being a headless pedestrian.

So when Lavi pops up in front of her she jerks in surprise as she's torn from her own thoughts. Her helmet's visor betrays nothing of her face, just a blank stare as it reflects his own. But her shoulders hitch a bit in confusion as she raises a hand to point at herself.]

[There's a bit of a curious look as he takes her in.

She's...definitely not someone he's run into before, and the helmet honestly throws him off a bit. It makes it a little harder for him to read her, but he's familiar with body language at least to understand the confusion.

He grins at her and nods. Yup, you.]

I'm not bothering you or anything am I?

[She waves her hands and then she's quickly typing something into her phone. When she finishes she holds it out gently for him to read.]

No. You just surprised me a little. What do you need help with?

[The curiosity heightens when he notices the way she has to use a phone.

That's. New.]

I was curious if you know anything — myths or just scientific facts — on how I can make something acid-proof?

Oh, um. Well I'd look it up on the internet first, but aren't certain kinds of plastic resistant to acid? Gold too I think? Maybe

[After letting him read the message she then opens the browser on her phone to check Yohoo!]

I'm trying to avoid materials like that. Something that can be made into clothes, maybe?

[Lavi waits patiently, studying her.

Mute? Or something else?]

What do you need me to research?

[ He's here just like he promised, but he still doesn't know what exactly Lavi needs researched in the library. He can't very well go looking for 'anything'. ]

Acid-proof armor kind of thing, or a shield, to protect from arrows?

[ That's the only kind of thing he can image being acid-proof. ]

[He supposes it's more of his fault that he hasn't actually explained anything to Yoon.

At the same time, the library is the first place he thought of that could possibly help.

Lavi is about to shake his head but pauses.]

Yeah, or at least something similar. More like on how we can possibly make something acid-proof.

Something? Acid proof? Like, not anything specific? You could make food acid-proof but why bother?

[ He's hoping that maybe Lavi will give him a subject area at least. ]

I can't imagine the library's limited organization is going to support "acid-proof" as a research topic, but maybe the kind of thing you're trying to prevent acid damage to could be?

I'm hoping to make some acid-proof clothes.

He rubs the back of his neck.]

So any materials that can be mended into clothes.

Mended? So patched onto something that already exists? Huh, alright...

[Yoon wanders off with that information and eventually comes back with something that isn't... acid-proof, but it's magical clothing.]

What about something like this? A coat of many colors? There's a bunch of different stories about it... some books, some theater plays, and even a song or two. Maybe one of the versions or one of the patches is acid-proof.

[Since hey these are just stories as far as he's concerned. Folklore is wildly different.]

[Lavi blinks as he regards what Yoon found.

He cups his chin in thought.]

That should work. That's the coat that the guy named Joseph received, isn't it?
