The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

I don't have a family.

[At least, for as long as Lavi can remember, anyway.

All Lavi knows for a fact is that he can't depend on anybody, not even most adults, so he's used to being alone a lot. But the idea of a family is definitely foreign to him enough that he's sure he doesn't have one.]

[littlest_knight]

[ He's quiet for a moment. A lot of Hunters lost their families. It came with the territory so it's not something he's unaware of but he does know it's a sore subject. Kaito lost his brother a while ago and he... Zero couldn't imagine losing Ichiru. Still, Kaito still had a place among them. A home. Just because he didn't have his family anymore didn't mean he was forgotten. ]

And your home?

I don't have a home.

[Wait.

He frowns a bit.] I woke up in a Viking hall, but that's not home.

[Zero, don't mind Lavi. He's too used to wandering off that having a home is foreign to him, too.]

[littlest_knight]

[ Viking hall? He doesn't know what that is. He doesn't really know what Vikings are except for the helmets with horns on them and the long beards. ]

You can stay with us.

[ripplesoflosttime]

[A confused look.]

'Us'?

[littlest_knight]

Ichiru and me.

[ripplesoflosttime]

Is Ichiru your family?

[littlest_knight]

He's my brother.

[ Twin to be exact. ]

[ripplesoflosttime]

[Twins.

Lavi's expression doesn't reveal anything about his thoughts, but at the same time, twins are...naturally close, right? There isn't a place for a person like him.]

...You must feel lucky to have him with you.

[littlest_knight]

[ He was lucky, more than he thought. Hunters weren't supposed to have twins. He and Ichiru.... if he hadn't.... It was his fault.

He grows quiet, but nods nonetheless. ]

I am.

[ripplesoflosttime]

[He's very fortunate, Lavi thinks. He has family here in this place while Lavi—

Lavi's not sure who he has.]

Do you think he'd mind if I do stay over?

[littlest_knight]

I can ask him.

[ He turns in the direction he came from. ]

Our temple's that way.

[Lavi is all prepared to find other places to sleep or cave and go back to Cardia's temple if Ichiru says no.

Still, he finally gets off of the bench, looking at him.

Okay, lead the way.]

[littlest_knight]

[ Zero takes his hand and leads the way. ]

What's your name?

[ We asks him as they head out. ]

It's Shaye.

[The hand holding gets him a bit curious, but by now, he's just tired enough that he doesn't mind.]

What's yours?

[littlest_knight]

[ It's a common gesture for him, and one he doesn't think about. ]

Zero.

The temple's not far from here.

[ripplesoflosttime]

[Honestly, he's just expecting random people to grab his hand.

So, he just gives a nod as he continues to follow Zero.]

[littlest_knight]

[ Zero will take him to the entrance to the Underworld which is shadowed by two pomegranate trees. ]

You shouldn't eat the fruit.

[ He points to the trees. ]

Someone told me they make you sick.

[ripplesoflosttime]

What kind of sick?

[There's a curious look at the fruit. They just look like regular pomegranates to him, so what could be wrong about that?]

They look like ordinary fruit to me.

[littlest_knight]

I don't know.

[ But he's not taking the chance. ]

It's this way.

[ He points to an old ruined temple that acts as a gate to the mouth of the entrance. When they reach it, Zero stops, unsure what kind of reaction Shaye would have to it. ]

Are you scared of the dark?

[ripplesoflosttime]

[A glance back at the fruit, but he follows Zero all the same.

The moment they stop at the mouth of the entrance, he looks at it. There's no fear on his face, but then again, not a lot of expressions show.]

I'm not.

[littlest_knight]

Let me know if you get scared. It's only a little bit.

[ He tells him as he leads him down into a red tunnel-like passage that moves underground depositing them in front of a river. ]

Okay.

[And down they go!

Lavi looks around curiously, taking it all in.]

Is this Hell?

[littlest_knight]

It's supposed to be the Underworld.

[A blink and he looks at him.]
