[Open Mingle] End of Summer Lucky-Pot

Who: Anyone and Everyone!
When: September 22nd
Where: Cnoc Áine
What: It is the final day of Summer and the first day of Fall so the Temple of Áine, the Irish Goddess of Summer, throws one last picnic to bid her season farewell. All are welcome, as long as they bring a dish for the lucky-pot potluck.

[ To celebrate the final day of Summer, the Temple of Áine has gone all out, decorated in vibrant shades of red and gold that already accent the hint of leaves that are changing outside the temple grounds. Although inside the walled temple, it still seems like a beautiful summer day, the leaves on the trees still a bright vibrant green. The picnic is set up in the large orchard that spreads within the temple, the trees' boughs heavy with brightly-hued apples of every flavor and crispness.

Blankets and tables are scattered beneath the trees and in the clearing at the center, several long tables are set up to be filled with dishes brought by guests. Yona has supplied some of it herself, with the help of some friends. Several roasts, carefully sliced and carved for guests. A large platter of corn still on the cob. Several types of breads, seasoned with fruits or vegetables from the summer seasons or the harvest. And apples, of course - those seem to be here and there and everywhere; in pies, sliced and paired with peanut butter or caramel or other dips, made into a buttery spread for the loaves of bread. No matter what people bring to add to the potluck, there will be plenty of food to go around, as well as wine and ciders generously offered to go with it.

There is music playing in the background, just to set the mood or for people to dance to, and the pools of water are still warm enough for people to take a soak or swim in. And when the sun sinks and the sky darkens and the air grows a little cooler, a large bonfire is lit, with hot cocoa passed around and the makings for s'mores set out for anyone who wants to have a little dessert after their feasting. One last offering to a fading summer until it comes around again. ]

Well, if you were me, everyone would be telling you to try something new. [Dust can't help but smile despite himself.]
kokuyoyo: (And the cops are back.)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-12-19 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
...Have you tried all of these?
mithrarin: (look away)

[personal profile] mithrarin 2017-12-19 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
All of these specifically? Not as such. I had the soft-serve variants from the truck, though.

I might be a bad person to ask about preferences. A hundred flavors and I didn't dislike a single one. [Dust chuckles a little self-consciously.] Even the weird ones.
kokuyoyo: (Please don't place wagers on my)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-12-20 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
...Yeah, that sounds right...

[The lines between Ken and the literal furry get more blurred ever day.]

So which ones have you had?
mithrarin: (smile)

Try the sea-salt caramel. It's really good. [At least, he interprets the question as a request for a recommendation.]
kokuyoyo: (Tell him next time I'm going to be)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-12-21 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hey, Dust is the one who suggested trying things in the first place. Chikusa will give it a go anyway, and doesn't just take the whole thing. Yay for... the most basic decency...?]

Sea-salt seems like a strange thing to put in something sweet...
mithrarin: (smile)

[personal profile] mithrarin 2017-12-22 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Believe me, it's not the strangest thing I tried. But the salt and the sweet going together is really good. Ever had chocolate-coated pretzels?
kokuyoyo: (Please don't place wagers on my)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-12-22 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[For all that he's actively getting a bowl and spoon of his own instead of the entire carton, Chikusa's gaze still seems to space out a bit as he thinks.]

....Not that I can remember.

[So, you know. Not while he's been dead.]
mithrarin: (smile)

[personal profile] mithrarin 2017-12-24 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll add those to the list too. You've got some catching up to do, it seems.
kokuyoyo: (I don't do stupid things anymore.)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-12-26 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've been... focusing on other foods besides ice cream.
mithrarin: (smile)

[personal profile] mithrarin 2017-12-26 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Care to share? The way there's so many things to eat around here I feel like I should be keeping a list...
kokuyoyo: (Please don't place wagers on my)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-12-26 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been home cooking... And I've been focusing mostly on Japanese and Greek cooking.

....Pick which.

[He knows so many recipes and different kinds of foods.]
mithrarin: (smile)

[personal profile] mithrarin 2017-12-27 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
The latter. Takumi does some pretty good food that I think is closed to Japanese, so I'm trying to branch out.
kokuyoyo: (Tell him next time I'm going to be)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-12-27 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
....Cheese pies. Familiar with them...?
mithrarin: (whoa hold on)

[personal profile] mithrarin 2017-12-27 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not the same as... those... I can't remember the name. Starts with a 'Q' and doesn't sound anything the way it looks...
kokuyoyo: (Tell him next time I'm going to be)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-12-27 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Quiche.

[...He really knows way too much about food now.]

They're different.
mithrarin: (smile)

[personal profile] mithrarin 2017-12-28 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, that's the one -- so what's the difference?
kokuyoyo: (Tell him next time I'm going to be)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-12-28 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ingredients... How they're prepared. That kind of thing. Not to mention despite the translation.... Cheese pies aren't really 'pies', at least in appearance. Quiche is closer to that kind of look...
mithrarin: (smile)

[personal profile] mithrarin 2017-12-29 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm definitely curious now. So what's a cheese pie if it isn't a pie?
kokuyoyo: (Please don't place wagers on my)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2018-01-06 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Pastry.

[A couple of seconds before he remembers to add more.]

Translation between languages.... is weird.
mithrarin: (smile)

[personal profile] mithrarin 2018-01-06 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I get that impression. Definitely not a quiche, then.

[Socializing: they're experts at this, truly top-tier.]
kokuyoyo: (Please don't place wagers on my)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2018-01-07 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hey, might as well talk about food over anything else, right?]

No.

..Maybe next time he does something stupid...

[...Chikusa, use a name.]
mithrarin: (whoa hold on)

[personal profile] mithrarin 2018-01-08 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dust starts to respond, but the flow of the conversation has broken so abruptly that it startles him almost literally off-balance.]

I -- did I miss something here? 'He'?
kokuyoyo: (I mean I don't even call it a hangover)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2018-01-08 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Cho Hakkai.

[Reaching up, Chikusa adjusts his glasses.]

....He's why there are so many cookies.
mithrarin: (look away)

[personal profile] mithrarin 2018-01-09 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dust lowers his head slightly, looking down at the cooler he's brought.] Well... that choice seems to fit in a little better than mine...
