Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

[Celty certainly noticed the man off on the sidelines. She'd seen people linger and watch before but she couldn't shake the feeling there was something else to all this. A bit of irony in this situation was that her voice was one he couldn't have heard out in the field.

Cautiously she approached, making sure to keep to the front as was her own custom to avoid sneaking up on people. Once she was a few feet in front of him she held out her phone, not realizing he wouldn't be able to see the question she had written on its screen.]

[Celty was dealing with a troublesome dummy of her own which kept trying to hug her and nuzzle into her chest, but she was managing to keep it at bay with a mix of borderlines and some black shadowy thorns.

She wasn't expecting the other one though and just barely dodged out of the way as the staff was jabbed at her side. With one hand kept up in focus on the first dummy she swept with the other, another wave of shadow rising up to shove it back.]

Shinki Training

[In the time since they last interacted it seems Celty has gotten the hang of the whole Borderline thing. She hasn't perfected it, but she's still able to make it form on command most of the time. After a few successful runs she glances around and notices Trunks standing nearby.

She offers him a cheerful wave, clearly in a more social mood than she has been for the past few weeks.]

[Marinette wasn't the only one passing on the food offerings. Celty had quite the workout with the renegade dummies but she held her own and even managed to keep some other folks safe. Between her black biker outfit, her flashy yellow helmet, or the scythe and shadows she was throwing around with ease she might have caught the new god's eye.

But afterwards she wasn't even bothering to hydrate! She waited as everyone else drifted off to refresh themselves but then she wandered off in another direction.

If Marinette followed the trail would take her down the steps to the entrance. Right outside the temple grounds, respectfully parked as such, was a black motorcycle. The helmeted woman was mounting up, ready to ride off.]

[Futaba's dummy is not the first one Celty's seen or had to deal with today, so at the newcomer's shout she's already moving.

Someone clad in black biker's duds sweeps into position between Futaba and the renegade training tool, but rather than raising their fists to block the next attack she sweeps up the shaft of a large scythe instead.]

Pfft- [Garry raises a hand up to hide his smile.] True.

Anyway, I'm Garry. I guess I should have introduced myself a little sooner.

[Grinning as he dodges one swing, Wendy waves.]

Hey! Pretty fun, isn't he?

I dunno, I met an old god, and they seem like they can get pretty dumb.

[But the practice dummy is starting to wander too far away.... Wendy yanks at its head, guiding it forcefully.]

[It's not unheard of deaths happening, after all.]

You can do having some vegetables in you. [But he places a hand on Judar's shoulder and teleports them to their temple.]

What makes you think that?

[ He seems to take the teleport very well, barely having to resteady himself when they're at the temple. Well shit, this place looks nice. Apparently his god was loaded. ]

It's not like I need them. Look at these muscles.

[Loaded would be a good term for it. Just wait til you look inside.]

Right. So if I challenged you to an arm wrestle after you eat, you'd beat me?

[ Man, he can't wait to see his room.

Also... That is definitely something he's not sure he can say 'yes' to. Doesn't stop him from shrugging at the idea and acting like he could. ]

Maybe. Adding vegetables to that wouldn't change the outcome anyway.

[Even so, Izumo leads him inside of the temple and he glances over at him.]

Doubt it. Sounds like a disgusting excuse to push people into eating something gross.

[ Well, now he's learned his stance on vegetables. So he'll continue on to the cooler subject of this place. ]

My own room, huh? Should be pretty awesome if the outside's anything to judge.

[ No 'please' or 'could you', just saying what he'll need before going off to the main building. Which he does find a good place, with mostly dark color themes (which is so much better than that first opening area.) After looking through the place even more, he decides that it's the room he'll lay a claim on.

By braiding his hair while in the bed before even trying to go anywhere and finding this kitchen. He doesn't want it draped around him in the mess that it ended up in, okay?

He'll go find Izumo when it's easier to smell food. It's fine. It's not like he's familiar enough with the phone to start messing with it right now. ]

[Wow, rude much? Fortunately, Izumo is used to such behavior that it doesn't really bug him.

The smell of food is potent enough to have its scent slowly filter out of the kitchen, but when Judar does come to the kitchen, there's food already waiting for him.]

Like everywhere else in this giant temple, even the kitchen is big and sleek and full of things he doesn't really get. What he does understand is that there's food. He'll pull out a stool at that island right away. ]

Why's everything so bright here, anyway? Doesn't seem to be magic.

[Always the dramatic opening strike. She is beginning to wonder if something in the Far Shore's rules require it.]

[The Valkyrie dodges backwards practically in a blur, then lunges back in with a rising slash of her sword -- a perfectly-timed counter, demonstration of her skill and training. This one starts by the book.]

It's called 'electricity'. I'll give you a rundown of everything here since I'm sure all of it is new to you.

Yeah, a bunch of it is. Like this phone thing.

[ Which he'll pull out of his top and toss onto the island. ]

Is electricity gonna be the reason behind most of the stuff I don't know?

Ah, that is something I'll have to ask you to keep on you in case something happens.

[He gives a nod.]

Most of it, yes.

This thing?

[ He'll just shrug at the request, not making a move to collect it right now. That was in his shirt, so he wants a break from it being on his person. He can see it, so that's good enough. ]

So all the weird stuff in here is connected to the electricity thing, and not just why it's so bright.

[Hakkai isn't, technically, new; but he's also not sure yet what he's doing here, and he's hoping that the introduction will help.

It hasn't been notably helpful so far. He'd given up on the weapons session rather quickly, after watching the dummies for a little while, and headed over to investigate the refreshments.

He glances at the man with the impressively large pile of brightly-wrapped meal bars, picking up a bottle of water for himself, and inquires:]
