By now everyone should have gotten that invitation for a formal party, right? Which means it's time for one thing: shopping.

Either it's by coincidence that everyone has thought up of the same place or through the courtesy of Hibiki (whose luck had ran out on her this time), people are going on a shopping trip in the fashion capital of the world: Paris. There are always fun and new outfits to try or, or if Paris simply doesn't have your style, feel free to head to another city.

So, have fun shopping. Enjoy yourselves.

And possibly remember to pay for the clothes you want to buy. Clothes aren't cheap, after all.

One of the malls they can be starting from is this lovely place. Try not to get lost.

You get another chance if you actually live through panicking under pressure. [Shun puts that rather flatly, like it's not something he really wants to talk about at length, but when it came to Xyz and Fusion, it was never like that.

Shun eyes the one Wendy passes him, puts it back on the rack, then a few moments later, pulls one out himself and puts it on the pile. The main consistency so far seems to be dark colours and low cut.]

Well, I don't know about you, but I've found that I'm better when I get a chance to figure out what I'm doing a little first before I throw myself into scary situations.

[She sure wouldn't have liked to run into ayakashi without knowing a little bit of her acrobatics, after all. With Shun's waistcoat preference taken into account, she moves a little more confidently in picking some more out.]

Not everyone has that opportunity. It's not as big a deal here, since nobody's going to die from it this time. [It seems like Shun's definitely still on the subject of the game here, though how he's talking about it may not sit quite right with that explanation.

He's also, however consciously or not, favouring waistcoats in the vicinity of charcoal grey, if Wendy is paying attention to that.]

Then we're decided! [And she tries to sneak a navy blue waistcoat into the pile.] And if you really want them to experience a challenge to rise over, you can just glare until people improve.

[Shun spares the navy blue garment a glance, but doesn't remark on it.]

If they want a challenge, then I can just keep crushing them until they get motivated to improve. [It's Shun's usual training method, at least, and it's more likely to have people actually go along with it when it's not physical combat.]

Well, as long as other people get to watch you crush the other person.... That'd probably help.

Probably. Watching someone else play helps you learn anyway.

[Shun sets aside another waistcoat without really looking at the pile, trying to consider how best to explain the game in a way that isn't going to be impossible to follow.]

The rules are too complicated to explain right now, but the concept is straightforward enough. You summon monsters with specific attack and defense values to battle against each other, and there's spells and traps you use to support their attacks or do damage to your opponent or their field in other ways. Both players have life points they can lose through either losing a battle or other card effects, and whoever loses all of them first loses the game.

What kind of monsters are there?

Are they like ayakashi, gross and scary like that?

[Shun doesn't seem to be too fussed about the size of the pile yet, but there's a good chance he'll go through it himself and discard a significant portion before trying anything on.]

A lot. There's over twenty different Types, and some of them are supposed to be like a "scary" monster, but others are things like fairies or mages, machines, fighters and animals. It's just what we call them.

[A lot of monsters aren't actually monsters, but he's so used to it that the discrepancy doesn't really bother him despite now knowing about other games that use more encompassing terms.]

[What a vague term for something as scary sounding as a 'monster'.... but whatever. Wendy sure seems to perk up, however.]

So even cute things can end up being vicious?

[The first deck that brings to mind for Shun definitely isn't one he wants to be thinking about, but he nods slightly even if he doesn't look particularly impressed.]

There's plenty of decks designed to look "cute" that are as effective as any other one.

...You know, that's what your mouth says, but I feel like you face gave a different answer...

[Said even as she passes over another waistcoat.]

It's not usually good people who like to hide behind a cute deck, in my experience.

[On one hand, Ruri's deck falls under that group, but she's difficult to remember for other reasons entirely. And then there's people like Sora, whose deck looks cute until the Extra Deck starts being used.]

If I got to make a deck, it'd definitely be cute, so does that I mean I'm not good?

[From behind a waistcoat she's holding up, Wendy grins mischievously.]

You're not exactly holding any moral high ground. [Especially considering what he saw of how she died, but he can't really bring that up either. He has plenty of reason to say that even without having to touch on any additional knowledge, though.]

This is because I bully you so much, isn't it?

[Then again, she is snickering a lot, so maybe she understands it suits her just fine.]

Now I definitely want to play.

I wouldn't call it bullying, but you try. [Bullying implies it works on the basis of intimidation, rather than just Shun not really having a strong opinion on whatever subject she comes up with.]

I'll see what I can do. [His only spare deck currently isn't at all well-constructed, and he still needs to teach Ren as well, so he'll have to figure all that out as he goes.]

Then I'll look forward to it.

[And with one more waistcoat to the pile, she puts her hands on her hips.]

So is this a good amount then?

[It's a pretty considerable pile by this point, so Shun just nods slightly.]

It's more than enough. [He'll have to thin it down before he actually tries them on, otherwise he's going to be in the changeroom for the next hour. It's still not a prospect he looks particularly enthused by.]

I don't understand why people go out of their way to do this sort of thing. [They can't all be motivated by his reason.]

[Wendy casts an amused look up at him.]

Shopping or parties?

[Knowing Shun, it's probably going to be 'both' as an answer.]

Both. [That's exactly the answer he's giving. Shopping, at least, can have practical reasons if it's for other things, but that wasn't the entirety of what he had in mind anyway.]

Screwing around with clothes for hours is what I meant that time, though.

People like seeing things that would look nice on them, or on other people. I wouldn't expect a boy to know that, 'tho.

[Because that's the problem, right.]

That's a narrow way of looking at it. [He knows at least one boy who knows that very well, and it's the one he's trying to surprise right now.] But being uninterested in it can't be that uncommon either.

Huh. You think so? [She tilts her head from side to side, as if physically rolling the idea around.] It feels like I haven't met too many guys like that...

I've met a few. [While Ren is the one that comes to mind first, Fubuki is technically an example, and he's sure he could land on a few others given time to think.] They probably hover more around people who aren't interested and try to convince them they're wrong.
