Spatial Tears

The first few cracks are small, barely anything noticeable, but by morning the tears have widened enough to start leaking a chaotic and unsettling energy. Spend too much time around them and you'll start feeling strange. Memories get foggier, emotions start to run wild or go missing entirely... whatever's causing this, it's not good.

Luckily, magic seems to be enough to force them back, and a bit of holy water can seal up a weakened tear in no time. Better get to work!

Freak Ayakashi

Ayakashi are rare on the Far Shore, but not completely unheard of. The ones that linger too close to the tears receive a much more sinister effect compared to gods and shinki—the energy seeps into their bodies in the form of glowing blue patterns, granting the ayakashi even more strength and the power to spread more tears and corrupt energy with their blight. These ayakashi are aggressive and will attack heavenly beings on sight.

... but many of the ayakashi will be very familiar to the older of the outsider gods and shinki. A large number of small Noise ayakashi have ended up in the mix somehow, resembling the ones that escaped from the chocolates way back in March. They're small, but incredibly dangerous, and it'll take a coordinated attack to put any kind of dent on them.

Henir's Temple

A massive tear can be seen looming over Henir's temple, and it grows larger and larger as the day goes on. The temple grounds are a mess, and it seems like this might be the source of the trouble. Is there something inside the temple that might put a stop to all of this?

Later in the day, a piercingly bright golden triangle shines through the darkness of the giant rift. Whatever's going on in there, it's not just Add that's involved.

[ Hibiki takes a deep, melodramatic, heaving breath. She lives!!!!

She lives, but she remains lying flat on her back. Breathing seems to be all she wants to focus on, right now.

Until her eyes flicker open. Groggily, she tries to see what's all around. ]

[What's around? A mighty clash of arms, and over it rising a familiar voice--]

Zetta Rend!

[Beams of energy crack into the fray, blasting two ayakashi into bits.]

Hyaaa ha ha ha ha! You spirits scared yet? You messed with the wrong Overlord!

[ Hibiki frowns. She sits up, barely missing where an ayakashi, taking advantage of Zetta's gloating, had tried to zip down and impale her in the head.

She blinks over at the thing now impaled in the ground. Huh. ]

[ Delayed reaction.

She's up now. ]

How did you go down anyway? [Zetta wastes no time with prologue or niceties, merely cast a baleful glare at her. Just because he saved her doesn't mean he likes her or anything baka!.] Not that you're anything in the cosmic sense, but foes like these are worse.

[ Huh.

[RECORD NEEDLE SCRATCH]

[Now if there is one thing anyone with like two seconds of exposure knows about Shikyoin Hibiki, it is that her ego is far too large to make this joke. Actually, Zetta would have bet her ego is so large an amnesia gag wouldn't even work. So the book stares, jaw dropped. The minions stare, jaws dropped. The ayakashi stare, jaws dropped, because they don't have much better to do while they wait for Zetta's side of the battle to complete their turn.]

...Oh wait, I know how to fix this.

[A Prinny promptly disengages from the middle of the battle, strolling over to the girl.]

You're Hibiki, dood!

FWUAH!

[ Caught unawares that she has this problem, Hibiki promptly faints again. ]

I'm sure she'll be fine when she wakes up. [Zetta actually has a great deal of trouble looking left to right in a manner that communicates he hopes no one suspects him, considering his eyes are just blank white patches with no visible structures within them. Still, he manages.]

[After an awkward moment in which no immediate salvation from weirdness forthcomes, the battle erupts again.]

[ The battle is also noisy, so the genius supposedly known as Hibiki doesn't stay spread out on the lawn for long. Instead, she raises her head, glances about at the chaos, and pulls herself to her feet, rubbing the side of her forehead. What had...that....

Perhaps she'd better go.... ]

[Zetta, though he seems focused on the battlefield, is aware of her movements. And aware that if he lets her go, she'll probably get eaten alive -- either literally by ayakashi, or metaphorically by someone she no longer had the raging ego to defend herself. Or possibly literally by someone she no longer had the raging ego to defend herself against.]

[And -- that would be karmic justice, right? Karma and justice are things he's supposed to oppose as an Overlord! Consequently, he... has to protect her.]

The streets aren't safe right now. You should stick with me till your memory comes back...

With you?

[ Hibiki frowns. She's....aware enough of who you are to not be surprised a giant book is talking to her, but something about this.... ]

Am I that sort of person?

[ The sort of person who....sticks with people. Is that...

No. She can't remember enough to determine even this much. ]

[badassfreakingoverlord]

[Sensing better prey than an armed and armored, albeit motley, crew of demons, one ayakashi slithers around the outside of the battle to strike at her -- only for the Prinny to practically tackle it, twin daggers flailing violently and almost effectually to drive the spirit back.]

People who have to ask that question don't need to answer it till they're safe! [Ugh, even amnesiac she's frustrating beyond words.] Also, you're my minion by right of defeat.

You defeated me....?

[ Hibiki thinks about this. It....it sits oddly, but she has nothing to compare it to.

So she stands here on this battlefield and comes to a single conclusion. Which she thinks to herself, aloud, with the quiet intensity born of supreme focus. ]

I must be rather unimpressive.

[badassfreakingoverlord]

You said it, not me.

--wait a minute! I'm the most badass freaking Overlord in the entire cosmos! EVERYONE loses to me!

[priforprince]

Is that so.

[ Hibiki looks around at the fight, seeming to notice it for the first time. Is it living up to that claim?

If not, she'll try to wander off again. ]

[badassfreakingoverlord]

[Honestly, the battle is going reasonably well. The ayakashi have numbers and relentlessness on their side, but Zetta -- for all his flaws -- all his many, many, many, many flaws -- is not incompetent on the field of battle. The lines hold, even as Zetta eyebeam-Rends another ayakashi into ash.]

...Look, if you take off, you're going to get hurt!

[priforprince]

I see.

[ She'll just settle down on the ground, one leg propped up like sailor uranus an asshole, and wait for you to be done, then. ]

[badassfreakingoverlord]

Asking you to help would be too much, wouldn't it.

[Zetta wonders, balefully, if this is passive-aggressive resistance, or if she's just naturally like this no matter what.]

[priforprince]

[ A vein twitches. ] I don't know a single thing about myself.

This is an important time for dramatic reflection!

[ There is still a Hibiki in there, somewhere. ]

What, and you can't do that in the middle of badass combat? You're nuts! That totally augments it. You strike down foes, all the while never losing that pensive, thoughtful expression. It makes your combat look effortless!

[priforprince]

I was in servitude to this deluded a master....?

[ Hibiki looks horrified. And lost.

It breaks her heart to think she might be someone

Are! And there's nothing deluded about that. Perfect, detached calm in the midst of chaos is an ultimate expression of control!
