Science has gone too far!

What: Add's experiment starts to affect the Far Shore, causing rifts and mutated ayakashi to begin appearing all over. Please refer to this post for details and questions.

Spatial Tears

The first few cracks are small, barely anything noticeable, but by morning the tears have widened enough to start leaking a chaotic and unsettling energy. Spend too much time around them and you'll start feeling strange. Memories get foggier, emotions start to run wild or go missing entirely... whatever's causing this, it's not good.

Luckily, magic seems to be enough to force them back, and a bit of holy water can seal up a weakened tear in no time. Better get to work!

Freak Ayakashi

Ayakashi are rare on the Far Shore, but not completely unheard of. The ones that linger too close to the tears receive a much more sinister effect compared to gods and shinki—the energy seeps into their bodies in the form of glowing blue patterns, granting the ayakashi even more strength and the power to spread more tears and corrupt energy with their blight. These ayakashi are aggressive and will attack heavenly beings on sight.

... but many of the ayakashi will be very familiar to the older of the outsider gods and shinki. A large number of small Noise ayakashi have ended up in the mix somehow, resembling the ones that escaped from the chocolates way back in March. They're small, but incredibly dangerous, and it'll take a coordinated attack to put any kind of dent on them.

Henir's Temple

A massive tear can be seen looming over Henir's temple, and it grows larger and larger as the day goes on. The temple grounds are a mess, and it seems like this might be the source of the trouble. Is there something inside the temple that might put a stop to all of this?

Later in the day, a piercingly bright golden triangle shines through the darkness of the giant rift. Whatever's going on in there, it's not just Add that's involved.

[A: Spatial Tears]

[The cracks were strange, but nothing Shun could find out anything more about or detect anything really wrong with on his night patrol. By the morning, though, they're gaping holes, and Shun moves down one of his usual patrol routes with a furious intent and every weapon he usually has at his disposal.

It takes some experimenting to finally figure out how the hell to make these things go away, and it's only really after Shun gets pissed off enough to loose his god powers on one and then tries spraying it with blessed water that he gets it. As the tear dissipates, Shun lets out a faint hiss and shakes his canteen. He's not going to be able to do many more with just this amount of water.]

I need another temple spring... [He's getting so focused on the work that he might not notice if his emotions start to slip.]

[B: Freak Ayakashi]

[Shun has been here more than long enough to recognise those ayakashi, though he mainly knows them from the old Susano'o's attack back in April. And that means he also knows how annoying they're going to be to get rid of. At least Kotori can borderline to keep them away for the moment, but...]

You said this is going to be a waste of time if we can't find someone else, right?

[Shun grimaces a bit as Kotori makes the remark, scanning the nearby area.] These things won't die to anything but a coordinated attack. I thought they were supposed to be gone, they haven't been seen for months.

[And then he spots someone else in close enough proximity to head over to, Kotori trying to maintain the borderline so they're not followed.]

Do you have a decent way to fight these things? We need someone else.

[C: Henir's Temple (Closed to Reisi and Chinatsu)]

[The giant rip over one temple in particular is difficult to miss, and so is the giant golden triangle hovering overhead. Though Shun doesn't recognise the temple, the symbol seems like someone calling for help, and if it means getting to the bottom of this, he's not going to let that lie even if it doesn't turn out to be anyone of concern to him.

He's contacted Reisi and Chinatsu with the location - with it being such a short time since Fubuki regained another memory that's taking his attention, he's not sure it's worth the risk of bringing him along, and Kotori has been sent back to the temple after the bout with the taboo ayakashi to recover. Shun will be waiting outside, an extra bottle or two of blessed water on him, trying to close up any smaller rifts that are opening up nearby in the meantime.]

[ Spatial Tears ]

Hmph.

[ Chikusa's additional network information had helped convince Hibiki that 1) everyone on the Far Shore is even more useless than previously suspected 2) they'll therefore be unable to do anything about this disgusting disharmony. Fortunately for this puniverse, Shikyoin Hibiki is a dashing swashbuckler with a fancy pistol that squirts holy water instead of bullets.

Or she plays one when she feels like it, anyway.

Hibiki is making her way around the Far Shore (but concentrating on the area nearest Apollo's temple), shooting tears to close them. She's being remarkably matter-of-fact about it: find a tear, shoot a tear, move on. Her mind is preoccupied.

Besides, this singleminded focus is the role. The perfect actor is in the zone as she trods the floorboards of this disgraceful play. ]

[ Freak Ayakashi ]

[ Hibiki has passed out beneath a large tear she'd been unable to close. Her water pistol, spent, lies at her side. Ayakashi are circling her, jostling for position - this is a god full of the belief of ~~impressionable teenage girls~~ humans. She's bound to be delicious.

For some reason, she hadn't called Wendy before she lost consciousness, either. ]

Spatial Tears + Freaky Ayakashi

[Anyone who approaches this particular widening tear will find themselves greeted by several potentially unusual sights.

One of them is a stone temple that seems to have been abandoned for quite some time but upon closer inspection will notice small signs of recent inhabitation positioned way too close to it. Anyone who had seen Ayumu's BBS post might recognize a passing resemblance to the sketch she'd shown in her video.

Another is the presence of trio of wolf ayakashi suffused with glowing blue patterns stalking toward the lawn's perimeter.

And the third is the rather paradoxical sight of a serene-looking Japanese woman in a long-sleeved, russet-hued dress spreading a blanket out across the lawn. An old wicker picnic basket sits on the grass near her feet.

Is she aware of the spatial rift so close to her home? Or the ayakashi threatening to trespass on her lawn? Apparently not.

Maybe someone should approach and inform her that maybe this isn't best time or place to be setting up for a brisk autumn picnic.]

[OOC: Due to the effects of the rift, Ayumu is unable to feel anything but overwhelming peace, meaning that she'll react to everything, including danger and threats, without protest or violence. However, this also means that she'll be compliant and obedient with most instructions given to her, even from strangers and negative CR. [The moment he saw Chikusa's PSA, Lavi has been on the alert.

And this usually means being on the lookout for people he cares about, including Ayumu. It's with the use of his hammer that he manages to arrive by Ayumu's side, looking alarmed.]

Ayumu!

[God damn it, Hibiki.

When he notices the ayakashi circling her, Lavi is quick to send a fire snake their way, circling around Hibiki protectively while warding off the ayakashi. While it can't destroy them, it's enough to send them back at least.

Lavi lands in the middle of the flames in the meantime, picking Hibiki up.]

Hibki, wake up!

Need a hand there?

[Lavi peers down at Shun as he comes to a landing, his hammer proving to be useful in this sort of scenario for once.]

Oh, Lavi-san!

[Her expression, already soft, from the unnatural tranquilizing effect the rift's having on her, softens even further and she breaks into a bright, carefree smile - an unusual sight on her late, indeed. His alarmed expression isn't lost on her intellectually but there's not so much as a ripple of worry of her own in emotional response. Nothing so far has managed to disturb her placid mood in the slightest.]

Are you hungry? I was just about to start a picnic.

[She beams, apparently in blissful obliviousness to the surrounding chaos.]

I made too much again so there's plenty for you, too, if you wanna join me. That hammer must be awfully heavy... You can sit it over there on the grass. It's fine.

[Futaba can be found outside the temple around the middle of the day, once the tear has widened but before the golden triangle erupts out of the darkness. She's staring up at the rift as if she expects to be able to see through it and into the chaos within.]

Well, that's no good...

[Glancing around for a moment, she pushes her glasses up before calling out:]

Persona!

[It's a little hard to miss what happens next, even if she was trying to be nondescript about it. There's a brief flash of light from Futaba, and suddenly there is a UFO floating above the scene. Mechanical tentacles erupt from it, scooping up Futaba, who is now dressed like a character from a 1980s cyberpunk movie.]

All right, let's see what's going on inside...

[The UFO begins floating toward the rift just as the light bursts out from the void. Its progress halts for a moment as Futaba tries to analyze what just happened.]

...Apparently a lot is going on inside. Guess I'd better hurry.

Ayumu, this isn't a safe place to be.

[Really unsafe.

He can see those ayakashi beginning to sniff them out.]

We have to go.

[Ayumu's gaze wanders a bit, unhurried, as it touches on Lavi, his hammer, the grass, the basket and blanket, then back to Lavi again. He seems so tense but once again, the observation doesn't bring out any sense of urgency or agitation. But fortunately, the rift's effects have also completely neutralized any emotions that might spur her into resistance.]

'Kay. I'll pack up then.

[She's still moving slowly, far too slowly, as she simply picks her blanket back up off the ground and begins to fold it back up in a neat little square. The ayakashi are starting to creep closer, they're even coming from her right side where she still has peripheral vision, but that strange serenity remains unnaturally intact.]

[While she's moving unhurriedly, Lavi isn't.

He's tense, and when the ayakashi come closer, he tightens his grip on the handle of his hammer, summoning a fire snake to appear and ward them off.]

❀ Spatial Tears

( It was obvious something was wrong before Chikusa's message but after, she realized how much closer to home all of the troubles were. She's been trying to reach him but without any success and she finds herself unable to go to him directly because... well, she's a little busy right now!

It's from another passing god or shinki that she learns holy water can help and luckily, she has a supply of plenty! Let's say she sees you trying to deal with a tear which is why she calls out, )

H-here! ( It isn't much, just a bottle of holy water being shoved right at you as she splashes some of her own at the tear. It's one part demonstration and another part taking care of the problem in front of her right now. Without missing a beat, she's also asking, eyes bright but not quite crying yet. ) Are you hurt?

❀ Freak Ayakashi

( The frontline is honestly the last place one would expect to find Sakura. That is, for those who only know her in Heaven. For those familiar from home, it's really no surprise that she'd charge right into danger where everyone else is going. Where there's danger, there are people getting hurt and she won't stand back and close her eyes hoping for it to pass.

She's tending to some gods and shinki who have managed to retreat a little farther back. Once they're healed they quickly head back out. It looks like that's the last of them! She could head back now if she wanted to but— no, she's going to move to the front too.

Now would be a good time to catch her before she goes out— whether to stop her or ask for assistance. )

❀ Wildcard!

( She considers Add to be her friend so she's trying to get to him or find someone who can. She won't reach him, IC-ly because she's busy tending to the injured and defending the heavens. OOC-ly because it's back to school with me this week and what are timezones and regular hours. I'm down for plotting though!!! Hit me up eski )

Aaaaugh!

( Urashima can fight. He knows how to fight! He can make a borderline easily, he can even cut with it! And he's not too bad with a sword! But you know what he doesn't have? Magic and that really bites. So there's nothing he can do to prevent these tears from growing or popping up in the first place. What's more, being particularly sensitive to things like spirits and magic, he's really beginning to feel the effects of these tears.

The energy is unsettling, it sends a chill down his spine, and he doesn't like it at all. What's more, he finds himself definitely having a harder time thinking. Where was he going to go? He definitely had a plan before he came out here. What was it? Aaaugh, he can't remember!

If he sees someone getting a little too close to a rift, he snaps, )

Hey! Get away from that!

( Is he in a bad mood? Kind of sort of not really. It's hard to tell if it's the effects of the energy here or if he's genuinely frustrated. Honestly, it's probably a bit of both. )

Freak Ayakashi

Ow! That hurt, you know!

( It's really not fair to say he should have thought things through before charging in to attack because he swears he had an idea that made sense ten minutes ago and he forgot it. Sword drawn in front of him, he manages to deflect a smaller noise ayakashi and draws back his free hand yelling, "Line!" to deliver a cutting line at it. It recoils and retreats a bit but it's really only a matter of time before it recovers and comes back for more. )

Wildcard!

( Urashima's here to be very sword and stab what he can. Plot with me at eski. )

[Shun observes Lavi somewhat dispassionately as he comes down, just tilting his canteen as indication of his current problem.]

If you saw any temple springs nearby, I'm running out of blessed water. These need to be gone as soon as possible.

( Urashima manages to circle around the wolf ayakashi for now, looping around towards where Ayumu is. He isn't stupid. He knows he can't take on three wolf ayakashi all on his own. And he knows Ayumu can't either so he should help her-- es...cape??? He comes to a confused stop, )

Ayuneechan?!

( What are you doing??? )

Hibiki!

( There's a glowing green light that circles around the ayakashi for a moment before charging right at it-- a phantom ram with horns knocking it back just long enough for Sakura to run to her side. Kneeling down, she begins to check Hibiki's vitals, bringing a hand to her forehead so she can administer some healing. The tips of her finger tips begin to glow with a soft light and there's a warm breeze that carries the scent of cherry blossoms. It should be refreshing! )

Please, wake up, we have to go!

[A. Spatial Tears]

[When he first noticed the tears appearing, it was enough to have his guard up, sensing the strangeness from it. However, it’s when he sees that post from Chikusa that the small god has to hold back a cuss.

Damn scientists.

He’s managed to learn that holy water will help in getting rid of the tears entirely, though it’s rather unfortunate he doesn’t carry enough with him. Still, it doesn’t stop him from at least making sure that the tears doesn’t widen any further than it already has, keeping it back with his ice - a flow of an ice dragon surrounding the tears and freezing it.

Toushirou struggles to ignore the sudden fogginess in his head as his attention shifts to the closest person.]

Do you have holy water on you?

[B. Freak Ayakashi]

[The ayakashi was growing at an alarming rate, and it had been enough to take the god slightly by surprise when they first popped up. He does’t recognize these ayakashi, but he is aware of the danger they’re posing, so it’s not odd to see him out and about, doing what he can to stall them for the most part until someone comes and helps Rend them.

Honestly, he should’ve sought out his own shinki to help as well.

But eventually he can be found with several frozen ayakashi around him, blight being evident on his person from where one or two of them managed to get him.

When he senses someone approaching, he glances over.]

Got an idea on how to get rid of these things?

[Since it seems like a coordinated attack would be the best thing to get rid of these annoying pests completely.]

[That's...not a good look on him.]

Yeah, I saw a few on my way here. I'll be back.

[And he'll go off to get some spring water. It might not be the best mode of transport, but he'll get some to Shun.]

A - Ayakashi

[After making his post onto the network, Chikusa has a problem on his hands. That problem is the mutated ayakashi that are around the tear he's nearest to.]

[One of the mutated ones has been slowed down, thanks to the blue yoyos in his hands, but Chikusa is having a lot more difficulty with a Noise ayakashi that won't stop pursuing him. His gaze is a little distant as he dodges attack after attack, unable to find any time to lash out with a counter.]

[Help would be appreciated.]

B - Henir's temple

[There's no question of where anyone needs to go... so that's what Chikusa is doing. However, he's not diving immediately in. Instead, he's scouting the area around it, making sure to avoid any ayakashi the best he can.]

[Going into that mess is the last thing he wants to do.... But it looks like he's going to have to. For now, however, he's trying to see what meager information he can get.]

[Feel free to do the same.]

[After Chikusa's call, Hakkai's teleporting directly towards him, his expression coolly focused and a sword -- one Chikusa might recognize as Asshole's vessel form -- naked in one hand.

After all, though he prefers fighting unarmed, there's no way to effectively attack an ayakashi with bare hands.

Chikusa's yo-yos don't seem to be doing him too much good on his own, either, and Hakkai puts on a burst of speed as he evaluates the situation, lunging in and aiming a cut towards the creature's legs as it lashes out at its current prey.]

[The ayakashi stumbles at the sudden attack... but there's no dissipation of form, no vanquishing. Instead, it quickly rights itself, twisting around to whirl on the much more relevant foe. It's small, and quick, and it's coming right for him.]

[Fortunately, free of attack himself, Chikusa is free to let out a spray of Rain Needles. A good few hit the ayakashi.... but it doesn't seem to be nearly enough to make it stop completely, or slow enough to be as much of a liability.]

[Ah. A powerful one; the most annoying sort to fight, Hakkai thinks absently, twisting out of the way of the small creature's glistening claws. Chikusa's attacks are clearly making a difference, but not enough of one to be significant.

He slashes back at the creature as its claws cut the air beside his knee, opening a thin line across its back. The ayakashi's substance is unusually resilient. That blow would have severed a human torso, he reflects, and raises his voice.]

Chikusa! Ready to attack transformed?

[At least ayakashi can't understand enough to make it difficult to talk tactics while fighting them. He and Chikusa haven't fought side by side enough for their nonverbal communication to be trustworthy yet, and Hakkai doesn't want to surprise him when he'll be responsible for his own attacks in either form.]

[It has to have something to do with the patterns, Chikusa thinks as he snaps his yoyo back into his palm, or perhaps the tears in space. Who knows? Perhaps it's both. Yet all this means is that he needs to pump more into it, perhaps with more focus- ]

[-or Hakkai can actually communicate, for once. Chikusa's head snaps up, a sliver of surprise going through their bond, before he remembers to use his won words.]

Do it.

[He's never used his vessel form besides the first time Hakkai named him, and when he came back to life. There's been no time to practice moving as a crane, and no time to practice his powers...]

[....Which he realizes he never told Hakkai, circumstances as they were. Ah. Oh well.]

If it's like these things were before, we have to attack together.

[He slashes at it again, distracting the ayakashi as it begins to turn towards Chikusa. It's not exactly like Susano'o's creatures had been, but they're close enough to make him think that they might have the same vulnerabilities.]

Come, Chiki.

[And -- to give Chikusa time to regroup after his transformation -- he slashes again, opening up another thin line across the ayakashi's hide.]

[His name pulses, almost a relief at finally being called, and then Chikusa's body begins to shift in the same way as before. Fortunately, flying seems to come easily to him- luck or how it's supposed to be, who knows. Flapping, at least, he can manage, and soon he's flapping up into the air.]

[It's just like when he harassed Hakkai, mostly.]

You've fought them before? Ah- allow me to use my power.

[He needs permission, he feels, or at least some sort of will from Hakkai.]
