Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the rear of the Meeting Hall, where a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a much nicer room than the warehouse where the last set of new gods got their informational speech. It's a smaller meeting room, with tatami floors and a small dais at the front of the room where the speaker stands. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's hosuehold are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Butterfly spirits are swarming the flower garden to one side of the dojo, fluttering across bright pink late-blooming cosmos. Shinki who want to practice more precise borderline aim can try using them to gently herd the butterflies one way or another, or, if their borderlines aren't quite that good yet, they can try to catch one with a net. Just be careful! It would be a shame to hurt them.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

The animated training dummies are missing this week, although the mundane ones are still intact on their stakes; the white-robed shinki who has previously been seen looking after them is wandering among the mundane training dummies, muttering, making notes to himself and swearing under his breath. Anyone who stares at him for too long, god or shinki, newcomer or established, is going to find him marching over and assigning them a task. Measure the air temperature in each square foot of the dojo, determine the exact height of each dummy and the location where it's most likely to be hit by opponents of different heights, hook an accelerometer to someone's sleeve while they smack a dummy around -- there seem to be hundreds of little, fiddly measurements he needs, and he's not taking no for an answer.

Rest and Refreshments

There are casks of fresh, cold water near the dojo to make sure no one gets dehydrated, and a fresh autumn-themed lunch will be served a little after noon. Rice with mushrooms, salt-grilled fish, roasted sweet potatoes and fresh fruit are on the menu; the shinki will try to accommodate any special dietary requests, and both the new arrivals and more experienced volunteers are welcome to partake.

One of the white-robed shinki has a whole pack of half-grown puppies that she seems to be trying to train. A few have mastered sitting, a few have figured out how to fetch, and all of them are young and excited enough that they're dashing off in all directions at the least provocation. Watch out! Dog incoming! Maybe she needs some help with that?

[Adrien didn't mean to laugh but it was impossibly endearing. Though he's striding over and gently parting the huddled mass of puppies with a sweep of an arm just to lightly push the aside.]

You doing alright there, buddy?

[The blond extends a hand to the child-god with a warm smile.]

They're just a teeny little overexcited it seems.

[chibisu]

[As he resurfaces, struggling to pull himself up by Adrien's arm, Ebisu's carefully brushed hair is in a tongue-lickd disaster zone now. If he has pawprints on his clothes, it won't be a surprise.]

I didn't know dogs that small could do that!

[purr_ince]

Never underestimate the power of anything based on size alone. That kind of out of hand dismissal can be a pretty bad thing. Besides - puppies grow.

[Adrien is taking a knee and smoothing the child's hair and dusting off his clothes.]

You doing alright? Didn't scrape an elbow or anything?

[chibisu]

[Very obediently, as if he's used to this before, he let's himself be patted down and cleaned up a bit.]

Uh...

[He stretches his arms out to look down at them. While they're nothing super bad, there are still a few faint scratch marks here and there. Just little red lines, no real blood, but still.]

[purr_ince]

[Adrien is blinking and looking over the little god's arms. He winces slightly then frowns before digging around into his jeans and taking out a couple small packets of wipes.]

You're not too roughed up but let's use a couple of these to ease the stinging a little.

[Bringing a wipe to his mouth he's tearing the foil and taking the wipe out before wiping down the boy's arms with care. Thankfully they won't burn or sting like alcohol would but they'll leave behind a kind of aloe and lavender scent in their wake.]

There we go should be all better. I don't think you need bandages and there's no blood. So you should be good..

[chibisu]

Oh. Thank you very much.

[He makes sure to keep his arms outstretched until Adrien is all done, a well behaved child to the last. The second everything is finished up with, however, he's immediately digging into his pockets.]

I should repay you for the help!

[purr_ince]

You're very welcome.

[This little guy has good manners. Then again Adrien has been told he does, too. As he starts to dig into his pockets, the blond smiles and gives a little shake of his head.]

You don't have to repay me for helping you. I didn't help you or any other people with the expectation of getting something back other than maybe making a new friend. It's okay.

[chibisu]

[Hands slowing down, Ebisu blinks up at him.]

There's nothing you want?

[purr_ince]

I wouldn't say that there aren't things I want but -

[There's a smile on his face.]

Most of the things I would want you can't buy. Friends and things like that. So how about this? If you really want to pay me by how about you tell me your name and we be friends.

[The blond tilts his head just so.]

Sound good?

[chibisu]

I thought... Money made people happy.

[So hearing things like this has definitely made him confused. At least he stops searching through his pockets, however, blinking up at him.]

I'm Ebisu... One of the Gods of Fortune, for fishing, and commerce.

[purr_ince]

Well, it can buy things and things sometimes make people happy. Money can pay the things people need to live - like food, clothes, water, homes and heat.

[The smile Adrien gives him is radiant. Reaching out he's taking hold of one of Ebisu's hands.]

I'm Adrien. I'm the exemplar shinki to Fortuna though she prefers being called Marinette.

[chibisu]

[All that seems like good stuff to him! Still, Ebisu makes sure to give as good of a shake as he possibly can with a small hand.]

It's a pleasure to meet you. I haven't had a chance to meet Fortuna-sama yet, but I look forward to it.

[purr_ince]

[Adrien is careful about taking that smaller hand in his and giving it a gentle but respectful shake.]

It's nice to meet you also. I'm sure she'd love to meet you. She's a very friendly people person so maybe sometime soon.

[chibisu]

You should visit my temple sometime, then. We'd have to make arrangements for you to come over, since we're very busy, but I'd be glad to more properly meet you two!

[purr_ince]

Oh? [He's only gotten that kind of invitation a few times but it's nice truly. A warm smile tugs at Adrien's lips.] I'm certain we would be delighted to come visit. Whenever might be most convenient for you is fine. You can just send me a message, okay?

[chibisu]

Of course. I'll be sure to prepare a meal for everyone as well! [Talking about it seems to get him more excited.] I haven't had anyone to the temple like this yet!

[purr_ince]

I'm sure that would be wonderful. Have you thrown a dinner party before? [He's pretty sure that that's what they would call something like this.] Really? Well if you need any help figuring it out I've been to one - not counting the big banquets.

[chibisu]

I'm sure I must have, I just can't remember it at all.

[Reincarnation amnesia sucks.]

[purr_ince]

It's okay. I know what it's like to not remember stuff.

[He pats his shoulder gently.]

That just means you get to experience it again for the first time. Not a bad thing at all.

[chibisu]

[Ebisu thinks on this idea for a long, careful moment.]

...I don't like experiencing how to tie my shoes for the second time.

[purr_ince]

[Adrien blinked then laughed softly.]

I suppose that's true. Somethings can be really frustrating.

[chibisu]

Hm, yeah. Have you ever had food try to slip away from you, and it doesn't stay still no matter how much you use your fork?

[purr_ince]

Do you mean like those little potato things? Like the whole ones? Or the little tomatoes? I just stab those. It's not the most elegant solution but it works. [ Unless he means food that literally moves and tries to get away from you? Adrien has seen weirder things. He's ridden a dragon that used to be a crocodile. He's honestly expecting weird stuff if he's being truthful with himself. But if your food is moving it's not properly dead and cooked, Ebisu. ]

[chibisu]

But I can't stab them, either! They always slip away...

[And other foods, too, honestly. Eating is surprisingly difficult.]

[purr_ince]

[ Oh god, why is he so cute? Adrien considers for a moment. ] Have you tried a plate with the little raised parts to make sections. It'll keep your food from getting too far. And you can have a shinki cut it up for you so it can't move around. [ That'd work for a human child, right? He does that with the kittens and the snakes when he gives them human food - like left over bits of chicken. He tears and cuts them into cubes. Should work for a kid. ]
