April Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: November 6th
Where: Outside the Meeting Hall, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the rear of the Meeting Hall, where a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a much nicer room than the warehouse where the last set of new gods got their informational speech. It's a smaller meeting room, with tatami floors and a small dais at the front of the room where the speaker stands. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's hosuehold are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Butterfly spirits are swarming the flower garden to one side of the dojo, fluttering across bright pink late-blooming cosmos. Shinki who want to practice more precise borderline aim can try using them to gently herd the butterflies one way or another, or, if their borderlines aren't quite that good yet, they can try to catch one with a net. Just be careful! It would be a shame to hurt them.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

The animated training dummies are missing this week, although the mundane ones are still intact on their stakes; the white-robed shinki who has previously been seen looking after them is wandering among the mundane training dummies, muttering, making notes to himself and swearing under his breath. Anyone who stares at him for too long, god or shinki, newcomer or established, is going to find him marching over and assigning them a task. Measure the air temperature in each square foot of the dojo, determine the exact height of each dummy and the location where it's most likely to be hit by opponents of different heights, hook an accelerometer to someone's sleeve while they smack a dummy around -- there seem to be hundreds of little, fiddly measurements he needs, and he's not taking no for an answer.

Rest and Refreshments

There are casks of fresh, cold water near the dojo to make sure no one gets dehydrated, and a fresh autumn-themed lunch will be served a little after noon. Rice with mushrooms, salt-grilled fish, roasted sweet potatoes and fresh fruit are on the menu; the shinki will try to accommodate any special dietary requests, and both the new arrivals and more experienced volunteers are welcome to partake.

One of the white-robed shinki has a whole pack of half-grown puppies that she seems to be trying to train. A few have mastered sitting, a few have figured out how to fetch, and all of them are young and excited enough that they're dashing off in all directions at the least provocation. Watch out! Dog incoming! Maybe she needs some help with that?

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Get in some training
  • Play with the dogs
  • Spectate if you want
  • Have fun~

Oh.

[He doesn't say anything else besides that, but Hakkai can probably pick up the sense of childlike and wondrous fuckin' wow, buddy regardless.]

[But that's not important. Ebisu forges on.]

Um... When you reincarnated as an adult, did that mean you remembered everything from your previous reincarnation, too?
reformedsinner: (closer look)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2018-04-18 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Not immediately. At first, it was as if I'd just arrived here from home -- I remembered my mortal life, but nothing about being a shinki or a god.

[That's not a personal question, and it's one Hakkai can understand, coming from a god who so recently faced his own reincarnation. He must wonder about who he'd been.

It's probably for the best that he doesn't remember. The man he had previously been was a man Heaven had executed, and Hakkai has the feeling that the return of those memories would be enough to have him facing reincarnation again.]

Those memories returned a little over a week later.

[That's right- a lot of the new gods have apparently been mortals before they became gods. He remembers one of this shinki telling him that. It's not too unusual, because mortals can become deified... but usually in not these numbers, and for people that have never been really heard of before...]

[Not everyone can be Stationmaster Tama!]

[Still, he curls a hand to his chin.]

Over a week... Then-

[personal profile] chibisu 2018-04-18 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Does that mean you remember how you died?

[A child should not look so excited over that kind of question and yet]
reformedsinner: (oh myyy)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2018-04-18 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Why?

[Hakkai's still not sure what kind of consequence there might be for killing another god. Yes, he'd approached in order to ask Loki to release one of his shinki who'd been requesting it. Yes, Loki had struck first.

But he'd also involved not just Loki's shinki, but D2, and he has no way to protect D2 if it comes out that he shot a god in the head defending someone who wasn't even his god.

One of these days, Hakkai reflects, he really needs to learn what Heaven's laws are.]

I want to know more about what makes your generation so different. So, if you can remember everything, even your death before reincarnation... [He presses his hands together.] Is it something inherent to how you are, or that was done to you?

[And if it was done to him, could it be done to established gods, such as Amaterasu, or himself?]

And how do shinki become gods? Things like that. I'm really curious! Even some of my shinki who've been around for a really long time aren't familiar with this.
reformedsinner: (closer look)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2018-04-18 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Then this really isn't something that has ever happened before in the Heavens?

I'm afraid that while I remember my death, I don't remember anything special that happened when I became a god, or have any idea why I've remembered things before my reincarnation when some others haven't.

[It's a little odd having this conversation with a child two feet shorter than he is. Hakkai glances around; there's a bench a few feet away, likely meant for resting after training in the dojo. He gestures to it.]

Would you like to sit down while we talk? I'm very interested in understanding what makes us so different from the old gods, too. After all, if it's something that was done to us and to our shinki, it's possible that it could be undone.
chibisu: (technoheart-archive, tumblr) (...but it's a lot.)

[personal profile] chibisu 2018-04-18 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Not... that my current shinki know...

[Maybe Iwami would know, but... Would it be safe to go see him again now? With how Bishamon was hosting things at her temple for a while, it hadn't been ideal, but now...]

[Blinking at the suggestion, Ebisu nods.]

That might be good. Kunimi and Aomi can see me from there too.

[So he sets off to start walking... only for his feet to get tangled up and for him to start pitching forward.]
reformedsinner: (dot dot)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2018-04-18 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Watch out--!

[Hakkai's only a step behind; he jolts forward to catch the child's shoulders before Ebisu can pitch face-first into the paving stone.]

-- Did you trip?
chibisu: (technoheart-archive, tumblr) ([lawyer voice])

[personal profile] chibisu 2018-04-18 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nearby, the older of the two shinki had also jolted forward when he'd noticed what disaster was close to happening, and he slumps in relief when Hakkai catches him wit his hand at his heart. His coworker seems to be fighting back a smile even as he pats his senior's back.]

[Kunimi lives a stressful life.]

[Ebisu, in the meanwhile, just pinwheels his hands for a moment as he straightens up with Hakkai's help, and blinks up at the other god.]

I'm clumsy.

[Said in the simple and upfront way of a child.]
reformedsinner: (as a matter of fact!)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2018-04-18 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it because you're so young now?

[For shinki, their skills and training linger. Does a god reborn into a small body expect his arms and legs to be longer, his strength greater, even though he can't consciously remember his past life?]
chibisu: (technoheart-archive, tumblr) (I can be killed.)

[personal profile] chibisu 2018-04-18 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure... But that has to be it!

[Suddenly remembering something, he beams brightly.]

I was told I could fight alongside a god of war down in the Underworld, so I had to have good reflexes, even though I'm a god of commerce and not war!

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2018-04-18 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hakkai starts, giving the boy a new, more evaluative look. He's fought in the Underworld himself. It's been a while, but it was a memorable experience.]

You must indeed. Well, then, you should be sure to work on your battle training while you're young, and it'll help you adjust to your reflexes.

As a god of commerce, what sorts of things are you generally responsible for?
chibisu: (technoheart-archive, tumblr) (I keep putting the back of this pen)

[personal profile] chibisu 2018-04-18 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.... That's why I'm glad I came here. [A lot more carefully, he begins to head towards the bench. No running or tripping.] I haven't had the opportunity to work with as many of my shinki as I would like....

We watch over Japan's economy together. So we've had to work very hard, you see. [He looks back at Hakkai.] You're a god of the poor, aren't you, Hakkai-san? So we should be working together more often.
reformedsinner: (elementary my dear dragon)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2018-04-18 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true, although I've been focused more on helping the sick. I have more experience with medicine than economics, you see....

[There's personal thrift and then there's guiding an economy, and Hakkai's skills lean far more towards the former.]

But I should make an effort to balance my responsibilities. Perhaps we will find ourselves working together.
chibisu: (technoheart-archive, tumblr) ([lawyer voice])

[personal profile] chibisu 2018-04-18 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Getting himself onto the bench with fortunately no major injuries, Ebisu nods.]

Would you like to come visit some time? You can see how we do it.
reformedsinner: (oh myyy)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2018-04-18 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, if it wouldn't be too much trouble. May I bring my shinki? I think they would appreciate the lesson as well.

[And he supposes he should introduce Ebisu to them, although he's not quite sure where Chikusa and Ken have gone... he looks around, but fails to spot any very tall boys in beanies in his line of sight. It's possible they're inside the dojo.]
chibisu: (technoheart-archive, tumblr) ([lawyer voice])

[personal profile] chibisu 2018-04-18 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. You said you had three, didn't you?

[Have fun making the decision of Asshole versus Gojyo, Hakkai... Still, that reminds him of something.]

Oh, I should introduce you as well. [Raising his hand, he starts to wave his two shinki over.]
reformedsinner: (apologies)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2018-04-18 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's right-- and of course. [Asshole versus Gojyo is no real decision at all. He looks over as Ebisu waves his shinki towards them, getting to his feet to bow politely for the introduction.]
chibisu: (technoheart-archive, tumblr) (I can be killed.)

[personal profile] chibisu 2018-04-18 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[As his two shinki come closer and stop nearer to their god than Hakkai, Ebisu gestures to each of them in turn.]

This is Kunimi, my exemplar, and Aomi.

[Aomi himself steps forward, hands folded in front of him.]

I want to apologize for interrupting earlier, Hakkai-san. It wasn't my intention.
reformedsinner: (mister manners)

[personal profile] reformedsinner 2018-04-19 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Please, there's no need to apologize. I'm sorry if my question brought up anything unpleasant.

[He smiles at Aomi, brightly.] Cho Hakkai, currently serving in the position of Li Tieguai.

[And, transferring his attention to Kunimi, with another polite bow:] It's a pleasure to meet you both.
