Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the rear of the Meeting Hall, where a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

God Training
- Newly arrived gods are escorted into a much nicer room than the warehouse where the last set of new gods got their informational speech. It's a smaller meeting room, with tatami floors and a small dais at the front of the room where the speaker stands. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.
Shinki Training
- Various shinki in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's hosuehold are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.
Butterfly spirits are swarming the flower garden to one side of the dojo, fluttering across bright pink late-blooming cosmos. Shinki who want to practice more precise borderline aim can try using them to gently herd the butterflies one way or another, or, if their borderlines aren't quite that good yet, they can try to catch one with a net. Just be careful! It would be a shame to hurt them.
Physical Training
- The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.
The animated training dummies are missing this week, although the mundane ones are still intact on their stakes; the white-robed shinki who has previously been seen looking after them is wandering among the mundane training dummies, muttering, making notes to himself and swearing under his breath. Anyone who stares at him for too long, god or shinki, newcomer or established, is going to find him marching over and assigning them a task. Measure the air temperature in each square foot of the dojo, determine the exact height of each dummy and the location where it's most likely to be hit by opponents of different heights, hook an accelerometer to someone's sleeve while they smack a dummy around -- there seem to be hundreds of little, fiddly measurements he needs, and he's not taking no for an answer.
Rest and Refreshments
- There are casks of fresh, cold water near the dojo to make sure no one gets dehydrated, and a fresh autumn-themed lunch will be served a little after noon. Rice with mushrooms, salt-grilled fish, roasted sweet potatoes and fresh fruit are on the menu; the shinki will try to accommodate any special dietary requests, and both the new arrivals and more experienced volunteers are welcome to partake.
One of the white-robed shinki has a whole pack of half-grown puppies that she seems to be trying to train. A few have mastered sitting, a few have figured out how to fetch, and all of them are young and excited enough that they're dashing off in all directions at the least provocation. Watch out! Dog incoming! Maybe she needs some help with that?

In Summary:
- Get all the information you can handle
- Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
- Get in some training
- Play with the dogs
- Spectate if you want
- Have fun~

[Realizing she's talking a god and not a fellow shinki, Ginia decides not to press her luck on where her shinki had gotten the rifle from just yet. There are places on the Near Shore, just not anywhere in the immediate nearness.]
The bullets as well?
no subject
[When he wanted to be. Which, fortunately for her, was often enough.]
[On her end, Mai had very little clue whether or not she was speaking to a fellow goddess, or another shinki. She didn't think to ask, if only because...in situations like these, having a casual--if slightly unusual--chat, it didn't really matter.]
The bullets, I picked out myself.
I wouldn't go so far as to call them completely safe...but they're definitely safer than the real deal. Making them a better choice when it comes to basic target practice.
no subject
Rubber or wood bullets then? Or some other kind of material?
no subject
I was less sure about wooden bullets. I've never used them before, and I didn't want to risk them splintering and causing unnecessary shrapnel damage in the process.
no subject
Thank you for answering my questions. I'm Ginia, a shinki. I was told when I first arrived not many used firearms due to the difficulty of obtaining ammo.
no subject
[Still, not wanting to appear aloof in any way, Mai smiled in appreciation of the gratitude, nodding her head slightly.]
It's been my pleasure to answer them, Ginia. I'm Caireen. Goddess of Children. But you're welcome to call me Mai.
And I heard they're not very popular around here either...but as I still have no intention of making them my primary weapon of choice at this time, I didn't see the harm.
no subject
It's nice to meet you, Mai. May I ask what pantheon you're a part of?
no subject
The Celtic Pantheon.
[She didn't bring it up in her initial introductions because...well...aside from Caster, she wasn't particularly close with her fellow Celts. And even in the case of Caster, it was...complicated.]
no subject
Have you met Caster then? Also known as Cú Chulainn?
[She hasn't met everyone in the pantheon, but the ones she's met all seem to know Caster.]
no subject
[A light blush tinted her cheeks when she read the name, which she covered up with a sheepish smile. And an awkward laugh.]
You could say that.
He and I were...close. For a time.
no subject
At the same time, she's troubled if Caster did something wrong. Not because he's infallible, but he's so laid-back it's hard to imagine him causing trouble.
As it turns out, a casual nature can easily lend itself to a careless nature.]
He's my god, but if he did something wrong, I'm sorry.
no subject
[...not that they weren't completely justified, of course. As she knew all too well. It was just amusing that that was always their first reaction.]
[But there was one other thought that came to mind, because she already knew Lancer and Archer, and...]
I didn't know he'd taken on a third shinki.
[When did that happen?]
no subject
[Ginia smiles at the memory of the naming. Of the choices she's made, there's no regret behind choosing a god for herself.]
no subject
[Her tone was genuinely curious. She could think of reasons why one may want Caster as a god, but she still wondered the shinki’s motovations.]
no subject
[The answer is an oversimplification of the situation, but remains the core of the reason. If she wanted a god to serve that was simply kind or caring, there were any number she could have gone to. However, Ginia is not unhappy is both kind and fearsome in battle.]
no subject
So it was more a partnering for convenience.
[At least, from the way she made it sound. Which...Mai supposed still put her in a better position than some other shinki. She'd been given a choice in the matter. Not all of them had.]
What about Archer and Lancer? Have you worked much with them yet?
no subject
It was convenience, but he is a good god who has treated me with kindness and care even before I was his shinki. Archer and Lancer have also been very kind and welcoming to me.
[A soft smile slides back across Ginia's face. Caster is a good god, but Archer has gone far above and beyond in helping her settle in to the temple. In many ways, he was one of the reasons she wanted to join Caster's temple.]
I was already learning archery from Archer before I joined Caster's temple. We've since fought ayakashi together in the city. He's also teaching me how to cook.
no subject
[But what she did know of the shinki...archery and cooking sounded fairly accurate.]
Good. I'm glad.
I still only have one shinki, but I've been very fortunate that we get along well. [Putting it mildly; Trunks was such a mother hen at times, the line between shinki and god had long since blurred.] It sounds to me, though, that Caster's had a similar amount of luck. Three times over.
no subject
[Ginia smiles sincerely. Procuring a rifle doesn't seem like an easy task and it was kind of her shinki to get one for her. But as the conversation swings back to Caster, Ginia laughs softly, the sound more a soft rush of air than anything else.]
He is, but I think we are the lucky ones too. I am happy with him.
[Archer and Lancer were so dedicated in their loyalty toward Caster. In the time they've spent together, Ginia is beginning to understand why.]
no subject
That's wonderful to hear. Truly.
I believe you're one of the first shinki I've met who had the opportunity to choose their own god, come to think of it. Do you mind if I ask...if he's your first?
no subject
Probably not.
Ginia shakes her head, carefully choosing her next words.]
He is my second god. My first god is gone.
[That is not a lie. It is, however, a careful omission of the fact she left her first god in order to to serve Caster. But that business is for no one but her, Caster, and her departed god.]
no subject
You have my condolences.
[She tried to sound as sincere as possibly without being overly pitying.]
That's one of the things that can be so frustrating about this world. How gods and shinki can come and go with very little warning.
When I first arrived, I was led to believe we were...maybe not infallible, but certainly safer from the pain of loss than we had been during our lives. I know better now.
no subject
Similarly, she hopes Caster stays as long as possible, but that's selfish too.]
I wonder if it'd be any easier if people could choose when to leave. Have enough time to say goodbye instead of disappearing suddenly.
no subject
Knowing they were leaving willingly...for some, that could hurt even more.
But...if it was a matter of they knew their time was up, and were given just long enough of a delay to see their friends and those precious to them one last time...I think that might soften the pain of losing them. Even a little.
no subject
[At least she got a parting gift from her first god, but who knew if that was an active choice or some other force of will at play.]
I'm sorry, this is a depressing subject.
