open - summer jobs!
Who: Axel (
doestheickyjobs) and you! Extra starter for Pippa, April 11.
Where: A shop that sells 31 flavors of ice cream, but which is definitely not any kind of trademarked store going by the initials B.R., on the coast in Chiba conveniently near to a little shrine
When: April 11 - 15 (let me know in your subject line what day you're going for)
What: Axel's still not sure what the big deal is with ice cream, but serving it sounds like an okay job for a guy who's a little tricky to notice sometimes.
Warnings: N/A! Possibly sarcasm.
OPEN
[Man... the afternoon really dragged between customers. Axel's sitting on a stool behind the counter, tipped back until it balances dangerously on two legs, spinning a pencil between his fingers. There's a couple of high-school kids giggling together over their phones and a couple double-scoop sundaes buried in whipped cream at the corner table, but other than that, the store is dead, and Axel's just about to go out of his mind with boredom.
His red hair is emerging in spikes all around the regulation hat, which he's just sort of stuck on roughly in the center and pinned there. The pink apron-and-hat combo just does not go, but whatever, he thinks. It's a paycheck. Roxas's ideas hadn't been too bad, so far, except that customers tended to ding the service bell wildly and "Excuse meeee--!" like he's not sitting right there every time.
Speaking of bells -- the one on the door chimes as it swings open, and Axel's chair falls back to all four legs with a thump.]
Hey there, how can I help you?
CLOSED TO PIPPA
[So: gotta butter his goddess up a bit, Axel thought, with a wry half-smile, and straightened the collar on his work T-shirt before he headed up the steps to the front door of her temple, right on time. Anyway, it'll be nice to get her out. She needs some excitement in her life. Maybe even some fun!
He raps loudly on the front doors, and steps back, one hand propped on his hip.]
Pippa, you there? Come on, let's go!
[She'd better not have been expecting this outing to be too proper.]

4-11!
Yes, I came in for "frozen treats?" [Is that what this is? He points excitedly at some of the flavors.] Are the flavors very accurate?
no subject
Which one are you looking at? Chocolate chip has chocolate chips in it. Raspberry cheesecake -- that one over there? There's some crust crumbles, plus a raspberry swirl.
no subject
[He has no idea what this ice cream business is. So!! He stands up tall again and places both hands on the counter.]
What are your favorite flavors? Do you like this "ice cream" a lot?
no subject
[Not that he's been taking advantage of the slow times to snag himself sample spoons or anything. It's part of being a good employee! He can give recommendations!]
I don't know what you're gonna like, though. What are your favorite flavors?
... Wait a minute. Are you human?
[He sure did notice Axel right away. He also sure is keeping his attention on Axel without anything forcing him to.
And he sounds as excited as if he's never had ice cream in his life. He's got to be a shinki.]

April 11
[Imagine his surprise to be greet by Axel, his hair sticking out of his cap at odd angles. The fact that his hair clashed so badly with the apron was one thing, but the fact that it was such a mess...]
Pffft, you look ridiculous, Axel. Who did your hair this morning?
no subject
He avoids, with an effort, reaching up to pat his hair.]
What do you mean, who did my hair? I do my own hair.

The falling chair catches Mikazuki's attention immediately. He bends down to peer at the freezer.]
What's this? [He points at the selection of ice cream.]
no subject
[He scoots off the chair and stands up, leaning his elbows casually on the counter as he pointed at the ice-cream to check.]
Which flavor do you want?
no subject
There's ice cream in every colour of the rainbow. It's honestly hard to decide.]
Whatever tastes good, I suppose. I had never seen this 'ice cream' first-hand before.

You can see me? [There went plan a. Oh well, he still could afford some ice cream but not the amount that he really wanted.] Good. This make it easier.
no subject
So, god or shinki?
[Wow, is Axel having his very own "someone walked in trying to steal because humans can't see them" experience? It's like deja vu from the other side!
Whatever the word for that is. There probably isn't one, he concludes, and slides off his stool to drag on a pair of plastic gloves.]
And what do you want?
no subject
Fortuna though I prefer my real name Ankh when I'm not answering prayers or whatever.
[He nodded at the bright blue ice cream and dug into his pockets to get his money out.] A couple scoops of that flavor. Nothing added, nothing on top just that ice cream.

And, unlike traditional food delivery where you can only get it from one place, he can diversify! So the residents of the Far Shore will shortly be able to order pizza and sushi and burgers and, if this place is willing to play ball, ice cream. And whatever other places he can find with somebody behind the counter who will see him long enough to get an order in.
Of course he had to invite Goku along -- he's going to be hitting up so many restaurants, it would have been beyond cruel to leave the kid out -- but after only a few places, he's already running low on cash. It's his own damn fault for telling Goku about the skeleton thing, but still. How does he eat so much?!
The bell chimes as he walks into the ice cream place, mentally calculating. He's probably got enough to try two or three flavors here, and then one more place. Maybe the Korean barbecue he's been smelling for the last three blocks? They could...
And then he recognizes the guy behind the counter, in that ridiculous pink hat. ]
It's you!
no subject
[Not that he's gonna. Gojyo actually did feed him, for free, despite the whole catching him stealing mess, and Axel kind of owes him one for that.
(Not that he plans to admit it unless Gojyo points it out first.)
He props his elbow on the counter and his chin on his hand, and waves at the ice cream.]
I figured you were right, and I should go find myself some honest employment. Turns out it sucks. Anyway, what do you want? Here treating your friend or something?
no subject
But this one is the weirdest reception they've had yet, and for a moment Goku is caught between laughing at Gojyo for potentially getting kicked out, or being surprised that they've only just ran into someone that Gojyo knows. He's settling for the latter. For right now, anyway.]
Oh, you guys know each other?

Hey Axel, when did you start working here?
[Was working really necessary? Riku Replica had never expressed that he wanted to work, so he had no idea. Did shinki have to take part time jobs?]
no subject
[He thinks it probably helped that the owner kept getting confused and forgetting he was there, and then was so embarrassed about it that she just told him to come in in the morning... but Axel's not about to look a gift job in the mouth. Money is money.]

[However, she'd gone out anyway. There were things she needed to do and things to learn, not to mention just sitting around the temple made her...restless. The city was very different from what she 'knew' existed somewhere else but there was a few things that was still familiar. Such as, ice cream. Which she spied from the high schoolers. It looked really good, especially with how warm it was becoming.
[At first, she shook her head, went back to her exploration, and tried ignoring it. There wasn't much money to spare and ice cream wasn't exactly a healthy meal, let alone a long term resource. However, as she passed by the window again, her eyes ended up falling back to the window and sundaes. She reminded herself most humans couldn't see her anyway so it wasn't like she could easily order...but thought, well, maybe it couldn't hurt to look at the prices. Just for reference. However, as she entered, the man behind the counter addressed her. Which caused her to blink - especially at his hair and hat combo. After a moment to recover]
Um-hey-I was just looking... [Her eyes strayed to the deluxe double sundae a teen couple was sharing before asking] ...How much does one of those sundaes cost?
no subject
[Axel gestures to the thirty-one flavors with a grandiose sweep of one arm, and grins.]
We've got plenty of options though! Cup, cone, banana split. What do you want?
no subject
[After thinking on it a moment longer, she smiles a little and says]
Probably just a single scoop chocolate mint in a cup, then.

So I don't want us to have to cut our snack short!
