38 - Power Palette Swap

What: Power Palette Swap Event!
When: April 15th - April 18th 2017 (March 1st - March 8th 2019)
Where: Throughout the Far Shore and Near Shore
Summary: A couple of intrepid magical investigators unknowingly trigger some mishaps among the New Gods and Shinki.



For two weeks, the Ama investigators have been combing the compound where Cultists were dealt a heavy blow by the New Gods and Shinki. Among them, two in particular had been looking to move the Crystal that the cultists had in their basement, the stand that it sat on, and the dolls nearby. Combined with Waver's analysis, Judar succeeds in using his magic to transport the Crystal out of the basement.

As they manage that, a ripple effect washes over the New Gods and Shinki. There is a slight sense of Vertigo for some, a stronger wave for others, and then things start to change...



As It Happens: April 15

Everyone was minding their own business. Perhaps they were on the Near Shore helping complete a prayer, or they were in the Far Shore attending to various godly duties. Regardless of where everyone was, it's around noon when some things start to change. A mild sense of vertigo happens to those who start to experience physical body changes, while a stronger wave seems to wash over the God or Shinki's skin if their powers are changing, or perhaps even a sudden stop-in-your-tracks deadening of feeling if being depowered entirely.

April 16

Later in the afternoon, through no extra effort of the Crystal-movers, a loud noise like a subwoofer kicking into effect issues from within the Crystal, knocking anyone away who was near it by several feet. The one-shot noise reverberates in the ears of all New Gods and Shinki, triggering another change for some. At the Crystal, the black color that appeared when the former Goddess entered the Crystal fills more of it.

April 17

Closer to 7pm, once more, the noise issues forth from the Crystal, louder and knocking people back several yards this time. The Crystal fills with black and grey. Some might swear they can see a face of the white-grey against all of the black, resembling an Inkblot / Rorschach test style picture.

Aftermath: April 18

Around 10am, the black coils from within the Crystal settle down into more of whispy smoke, much harder to see in it. There's a slight tug in the direction of the Crystal regardless of where New Gods and Shinki stand, and with that pull, the change effects go away and all are returned to as they were.

[ The "Berserker" at the door brightens (if that's a word that could be used) at her sight! ] Princess, what brings you here? [ Unfortunately, it's still Berserker's form so that bright, happy smile is-- very pointy and toothy. He's also acting veeery touchy right from the start. Instead of moving on the side to allow entrance to the temple, he takes a step outside. To move next to Zelda, and attempt putting his arm around here ]

[That confused, questioning sound abruptly becomes much louder, much longer, and much, much, much more alarmed.]

--AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!

[Perhaps, if she were feeling better, she would note all the oddities about this situation: the fact that Berserker is using her proper title, his apparent delight at seeing her, the fact that he answered the door at Caster's temple.

... But higher reasoning is not winning out today. It can only be called instinct that immediately jerks her knee up between "Berserker's" legs as he closes in on her. It can only be called training that swings her arm to follow up, directing her fist where she predicts his chin will be if that first kick makes him bend forward. It can only be called a flight or fight response that causes her to jump back and away, very nearly stumbling down the steps to his door as she rushes to put significant distance between the two of them the moment the opportunity presents itself.

She would probably already be dead if this was actually Berserker that she was dealing with, but as stated previously, she has had A Day. Her already frayed nerves are not thinking that far ahead, alright.]

Utgh-- [ The moment the hit connects, Caster realizes he... didn't think it through. Letting his reactions to go without thinking, that's what you get. Of course, Zelda has no idea he is trapped in Berserker's body, how could she know that? ] Fuck- [ Don't say fuck in princess presence you peasant ] Was that truly necessary?

Was it?!

[Zelda parrots, and she looks... scared. Possibly the most scared Caster has ever seen her in their time together, barring that one fleeting moment in Henir's core. Her fists are raised, her muscles are tense, but her eyes are wide and she's trembling like a cornered animal ready to bolt. The only reason she isn't running already is because there's been no immediate reprisal for her instinctual reaction, and that... doesn't make sense. Not with what she knows of Berserker.]

What-- What are you trying to do?!

I was-- trying to greet you. [ Caster takes a step back. To give her more space. To make sure she reads that he doesn't have hostile intentions. He runs a hand through his face and, hey, let's try this: ] It's me, Zelda. I'm still trying to figure out what happened and why I was given his form suddenly. [ One more step back into the temple and he extends his hand in front of him, summoning his weapons- It's a druid staff. ]

[Immediately, a cooling wave of regret washes over her frayed nerves, forcing the tension from her body like a puppet whose strings have been cut the moment her eyes fall upon that staff. She glances from it to its wielder and back again several times as her mind works to process this information, and as she goes, she exhales in a hushed voice:]

Oh, Goddesses, not you too...

[She's stepping forward then, carefully, her hands reaching out with gentleness rather than raised in defense.]

I-- I am so sorry. I didn't-- I was not thinking, and I just...

[Reacted? Badly. Oops.]

[ Well, at least it doesn't mean it's some weird... identity/servant shit going on, world glitching around the doubles present or something. If there are others affected, then some weird experiment going awry seems more probable-- --------A D D? anyway ] Don't mind it- it was a reasonable reaction. [ He waves his hand and well still invites her to the temple. But then he chuckles at his own words. ] Ahh, I love that spark of yours. [ Really, probably the most reasonable reaction at Berserker doing something unpredictable should be "disengage" not "hit him in the jewels". But this is Caster he's obviously going to respect the courage and/or brashness to do the latter ] If that's not just us, then who else? [ Princess you look like you could use a drink ]

I-- I doubt the man whose face you wear would feel the same...

[A scarlet flush colors her features as she admits this. Honestly! What kind of person looks at kicking a guy in the nads with fondness! What is she more embarrassed by, her own reckless gut reaction, or the fact that Caster apparently liked it!

... Both. Both is good. Yes, she needs that drink quite badly at this point.]

Lord Ebisu accidentally fell into my temple while utilizing a portal much like the ones we have seen Add use. His body was also in a... distressing state of disrepair. [She follows him into the temple, but avoids eye contact for the most part. It’s weird. This is weird. She doesn’t like it.] Apparently, while he and Add did not switch bodies, exactly, they have certainly exchanged their abilities somehow, leading to no small amount of panic on all sides.

[Well, except for Ebisu himself, but he rarely seems worried about anything, so.]

... It has been a trying day.
