38 - Power Palette Swap

Who: Everyone!
What: Power Palette Swap Event!
When: April 15th - April 18th 2017 (March 1st - March 8th 2019)
Where: Throughout the Far Shore and Near Shore
Summary: A couple of intrepid magical investigators unknowingly trigger some mishaps among the New Gods and Shinki.

For two weeks, the Ama investigators have been combing the compound where Cultists were dealt a heavy blow by the New Gods and Shinki. Among them, two in particular had been looking to move the Crystal that the cultists had in their basement, the stand that it sat on, and the dolls nearby. Combined with Waver's analysis, Judar succeeds in using his magic to transport the Crystal out of the basement.

As they manage that, a ripple effect washes over the New Gods and Shinki. There is a slight sense of Vertigo for some, a stronger wave for others, and then things start to change...

As It Happens: April 15

Everyone was minding their own business. Perhaps they were on the Near Shore helping complete a prayer, or they were in the Far Shore attending to various godly duties. Regardless of where everyone was, it's around noon when some things start to change. A mild sense of vertigo happens to those who start to experience physical body changes, while a stronger wave seems to wash over the God or Shinki's skin if their powers are changing, or perhaps even a sudden stop-in-your-tracks deadening of feeling if being depowered entirely.

April 16

Later in the afternoon, through no extra effort of the Crystal-movers, a loud noise like a subwoofer kicking into effect issues from within the Crystal, knocking anyone away who was near it by several feet. The one-shot noise reverberates in the ears of all New Gods and Shinki, triggering another change for some. At the Crystal, the black color that appeared when the former Goddess entered the Crystal fills more of it.

April 17

Closer to 7pm, once more, the noise issues forth from the Crystal, louder and knocking people back several yards this time. The Crystal fills with black and grey. Some might swear they can see a face of the white-grey against all of the black, resembling an Inkblot / Rorschach test style picture.

Aftermath: April 18

Around 10am, the black coils from within the Crystal settle down into more of whispy smoke, much harder to see in it. There's a slight tug in the direction of the Crystal regardless of where New Gods and Shinki stand, and with that pull, the change effects go away and all are returned to as they were.

[ These last few days have been a bit of an emotional roller coaster, and Hibiki's behaviour (her concern, if it is concern) is not making it less...weird. Though she's sputtering nonsense as much as she usually does. Teenagers.

The shield is obviously some sort of Hibiki antic as well and it's bizarre yet also such an unsurprising thing somehow that the sight manages to coax a half-hearted, spontaneous laugh out of him. She is a ridiculous kid, seriously.

Meaning that yes, D2 glances up, to her and to the goat with the tissues and he rubs his eyes with the cuff of his sleeve not that it does anything to stop the tears. ]

What, y'mean a grown man ain't 'llowed'a cry'n the open any more?

[ If he wants to speak English he can speak English- he's just momentarily lost all languages except that and German. Which comes out after: ]

Es ist keine große Sache.

[ "It's not that big a deal." The crying, that is. What is a big deal is the reason and emotions behind the tears. ]

[ Perman is a useful language. A single syllable may be used to affirm a contradiction - the presence, as it were, of a große Sache indeed.

Or perhaps Hibiki just wanted to show off how cosmopolpritan she is. In any case, she sighs and turns to lead the way. ]

[ The goat reassuringly nudges D2. Maa-ster can't say she's worried about you. And it's true that she's also irritated that you are making her sad. But you are her shinki! She cares!

[ He really, honestly, is fine. He wasn't up until now, but it's better now.

Well okay he's a bit shaken. He really doesn't want to lose his powers again when he's in a place where you need those powers. ]

[ ...Though. The Sturm und Drang within her breast (and his, therefore) does seem to be....mostly....handled. So the worst of this latest calamity has passed.

So why is she not satisfied??

The goat nuzzles up as Hibiki turns. Someone here is managing to succeed at their aims, and it's not the chosen genius. ] In any case, seek me next time.

[ She can't fix what she doesn't know about. And a world where Shikyoin Hibiki can't fix something that affects her....~~(can't fulfill a role, once accepted)~~....is not a world in which she wishes to dwell. ]

[ D2 rubs his eyes with a tissue. They have finally stopped leaking, but the relief has not gone anywhere. ]

What now? [ What is this "conventions of genre" thing? Mmm...? ] This isn't a telenovela, you know.

[ After tucking the tissue into a pocket, D2 gives the goat another head-rub. ]

Next time what? That some weird shit that none of us can control happens?

[ Hibiki can't look at D2 for this. Even she isn't sure why, herself, save that she knows she isn't comfortable and that not looking at people is usually Cooler. ]

Tracking you down grows tiresome.

You know I can't actually predict those sorts of things right?

[ He knows what's going to happen in the future just as much as she does.

Except with the whole, vessel power thing, but that's a different matter. ]

As long as I'm notified, all is well.

[ The goat nuzzles up to D2. It's okay. Don't worry about aa-nything. There's enough goats that they'll be sure to find him, right away, so Maa-ster can go....

...........do whatever it is Maa-ster is trying to do and not quite succeeding right now. ]

[ D2 pets the goat.

Also yeah what is Hibiki trying to do? ]

[ He can deal with things. She's known him to deal with things before she showed up, right? Like when he remembered his death, and Hakkai was there. When Hibiki showed up, he was more or less fine. ]

Still...perhaps this is best. While the eruptions are unpleasant, he is doing an admirable job of mediating his own emotions afterwards. A mastery of oneself not unsuitable for someone with the nerve to defy her on a regular basis. He doesn't actually need a god to fix his ills.

Perhaps.....D2 can be left....to D2? ]

[ D2 will be fine. He may act immature around her, but he really is fully capable of acting like the grown-up that he is. And he's used to dealing with his emotions privately since forever. It's hard to change that now. He's working on it, but Hibiki isn't his first alternative. But nonetheless, he'll be fine without her help. ]

You'll fulfill it in all sorts of ways either way won't you?

[ ....This is the first convenience about D2 that Hibiki has encountered. (Which is a lie for dramatic effect. It's the second. The sword, and its shinki power combined with his extensive combat experience, is very nice.)

His comment, however, provokes a snort. She can't argue with that, much as she'd like to from the tone. ] Say what you please.

[ Hibiki just likes being overly critical of D2 and his abilities due to his attitude toward her. But that's fine.
