What: Power Palette Swap Event!
When: April 15th - April 18th 2017 (March 1st - March 8th 2019)
Where: Throughout the Far Shore and Near Shore
Summary: A couple of intrepid magical investigators unknowingly trigger some mishaps among the New Gods and Shinki.

For two weeks, the Ama investigators have been combing the compound where Cultists were dealt a heavy blow by the New Gods and Shinki. Among them, two in particular had been looking to move the Crystal that the cultists had in their basement, the stand that it sat on, and the dolls nearby. Combined with Waver's analysis, Judar succeeds in using his magic to transport the Crystal out of the basement.

As they manage that, a ripple effect washes over the New Gods and Shinki. There is a slight sense of Vertigo for some, a stronger wave for others, and then things start to change...

As It Happens: April 15

Everyone was minding their own business. Perhaps they were on the Near Shore helping complete a prayer, or they were in the Far Shore attending to various godly duties. Regardless of where everyone was, it's around noon when some things start to change. A mild sense of vertigo happens to those who start to experience physical body changes, while a stronger wave seems to wash over the God or Shinki's skin if their powers are changing, or perhaps even a sudden stop-in-your-tracks deadening of feeling if being depowered entirely.

April 16

Later in the afternoon, through no extra effort of the Crystal-movers, a loud noise like a subwoofer kicking into effect issues from within the Crystal, knocking anyone away who was near it by several feet. The one-shot noise reverberates in the ears of all New Gods and Shinki, triggering another change for some. At the Crystal, the black color that appeared when the former Goddess entered the Crystal fills more of it.

April 17

Closer to 7pm, once more, the noise issues forth from the Crystal, louder and knocking people back several yards this time. The Crystal fills with black and grey. Some might swear they can see a face of the white-grey against all of the black, resembling an Inkblot / Rorschach test style picture.

Aftermath: April 18

Around 10am, the black coils from within the Crystal settle down into more of whispy smoke, much harder to see in it. There's a slight tug in the direction of the Crystal regardless of where New Gods and Shinki stand, and with that pull, the change effects go away and all are returned to as they were.

...So, basically, the chance of learning what's happening is minimal.

[Sighing, he pushes himself up and pauses only to pick up the sword. There's no point in leaving it around for any person to pick up. It might be important, anyway.]

But I don't think those ears were powers... Are you familiar with Hakkai?

Unfortunately. [Shun's tone is somewhat dry in answer to the question about Hakkai, and he's certainly familiar enough with him to know what Garry might be talking about.] He didn't exactly make his true nature public for a while, but that's only where the newer people are concerned, if we're talking about him not being human.

[Back when Shun first arrived, Hakkai was still a shinki and went around in his youkai form routinely, so while Shun had had to use context clues from Doku to learn what he was exactly, it had been pretty clear he wasn't human.]

Ah...

[Initially, Garry had just assumed that Komaeda and Hakkai hadn't gotten along because of that conversation, which Komaeda had definitely been... not his best about. But now he wonders if Hakkai just... secretly has the kind of personality that gets a lot of people annoyed at him...]

[...He'll not worry about it for now.]

At any rate... The kind of ears I had reminded me of Hakkai, when he revealed himself that one time on the network. So that's why I was thinking of it.

Youkai? He's not the only one here, so I suppose it's not that unlikely if things are getting switched around or something. [Dokugakuji wears his being a youkai openly, so Shun doesn't really feel any need to hide that on his behalf, especially since it's been a long while since they spoke anyway.]

I'm pretty sure I've never seen anyone with this kind of ability, though, so that must not be the only thing it's doing. [He points over his shoulder to the falcon wings. That particular detail of species definitely seems a bit too specific to be a matter of a swap.]

Hmm.... You're not wrong. I know there was someone around who used to have wings like that, but I haven't seen him in a while...

[And he was a pretty noticeable youth, too. Hard to miss someone that's neon orange.]

Times like this and it would be handy to have a list of what people can do, wouldn't it?

I remember Hajime mentioned having a shinki who was part-bird or something once, but she's been gone for a while. [He hadn't really kept track of said shinki after she departed, either, so he wouldn't really know if the guy was still around.]

I doubt many people would agree to it. I certainly wouldn't want what I could do out there on a list for people to take advantage of.

Well, I can understand the need to be cautious... [Although he's pretty sure that it sometimes goes above and beyond just that with some people around here.] Still, doesn't that make it a problem for the rest of us as well?

When problems like this pop up... It makes us harder to find people who can properly help, or where to even start. Doesn't it?

If you want to know so much, you could still post about it. At worst, someone might contact you privately if they recognise the power set. [Shun shrugs slightly, like he doesn't really consider it his problem.]

I can't exactly begrudge people not wanting the Heavens knowing every detail of their abilities, considering we know they use the BBS too.

I mean... Is there anything stopping them from just having people be watched, if they really want to know what new gods and shinki can do? Goodness knows everyone works hard enough, even if they don't seem to like Heaven...

...Well, I guess that's getting off point, however.

That takes more manpower and is easier to notice, anyway. It'd be just about impossible to monitor everyone here at all times using their methods. [Considering the Heavens don't seem to think much of modern options like security cameras and such like.]

So there's no reason to just lay it out there for them to take advantage of.

I wonder... Well, it's clear we won't disagree. What do you plan on doing now? I mean-

[He gestures to both of their situations, with his own clothing and Shun's wings.]

Do we even have any leads on this whole peculiar situation?

Not as far as I know. Nobody seems to be asking around, either, so maybe it's about time someone started. [He prefers to do that sort of thing in person, though, especially considering what appeared to have transpired after last time he tried asking around about something on the network.]

But I'm mostly just trying to get on with my damn day and treat this like just another new power.

I wonder if people don't ask around, or make it known that they're asking around, because they're so overly cautious, and that just leads to everyone still not knowing what's going on...

[Well. Whatever. Garry heaves out a sigh. While he can understand the logic, that doesn't make it any less frustrating.]

Hopefully we'll all be able to mostly go on with our days, if no one can figure out what's happening. Who knows if this will just keep happening... Or even go worse.

Most cautious people are still prepared to ask around in person, and usually people will at least explain what the hell's happening in vague terms if they find out.

[And then there's people like Add who lay it out in excruciating detail, though that might almost be more welcome in a situation like this one.] Usually this kind of thing clears up eventually, so I suppose we'll just have to hope it's an oddity and nothing more.

[Shun doesn't sound very pleased with that option, but they don't have a wealth of them right now.]

You don't really seem like the type who's fine with just hoping...No offense, of course.

[Not that Shun seems like the kind of guy who would care about any offense in the first place.]

Try to take care. It would be bad if those wings suddenly disappeared while you were in the middle of flying.

We also don't have a hell of a lot of options that aren't that. [Which is the only reason Shun's willing to settle for it in this case. It's not really his cup of tea otherwise.

Garry's concern only gets a rather unimpressed raise of the brow, though. Clearly the whole thing about gods being able to fly under normal circumstances still isn't common knowledge.] I don't think it would make much difference either way.

...I mean, it would still make more of a difference than none at all, so...

[Why are there so many people with attitude problems in Heaven? Garry blinks right back as he gets that raised eyebrow. Show a little concern, and people have issues with it.]
