38 - Power Palette Swap

What: Power Palette Swap Event!
When: April 15th - April 18th 2017 (March 1st - March 8th 2019)
Where: Throughout the Far Shore and Near Shore
Summary: A couple of intrepid magical investigators unknowingly trigger some mishaps among the New Gods and Shinki.



For two weeks, the Ama investigators have been combing the compound where Cultists were dealt a heavy blow by the New Gods and Shinki. Among them, two in particular had been looking to move the Crystal that the cultists had in their basement, the stand that it sat on, and the dolls nearby. Combined with Waver's analysis, Judar succeeds in using his magic to transport the Crystal out of the basement.

As they manage that, a ripple effect washes over the New Gods and Shinki. There is a slight sense of Vertigo for some, a stronger wave for others, and then things start to change...



As It Happens: April 15

Everyone was minding their own business. Perhaps they were on the Near Shore helping complete a prayer, or they were in the Far Shore attending to various godly duties. Regardless of where everyone was, it's around noon when some things start to change. A mild sense of vertigo happens to those who start to experience physical body changes, while a stronger wave seems to wash over the God or Shinki's skin if their powers are changing, or perhaps even a sudden stop-in-your-tracks deadening of feeling if being depowered entirely.

April 16

Later in the afternoon, through no extra effort of the Crystal-movers, a loud noise like a subwoofer kicking into effect issues from within the Crystal, knocking anyone away who was near it by several feet. The one-shot noise reverberates in the ears of all New Gods and Shinki, triggering another change for some. At the Crystal, the black color that appeared when the former Goddess entered the Crystal fills more of it.

April 17

Closer to 7pm, once more, the noise issues forth from the Crystal, louder and knocking people back several yards this time. The Crystal fills with black and grey. Some might swear they can see a face of the white-grey against all of the black, resembling an Inkblot / Rorschach test style picture.

Aftermath: April 18

Around 10am, the black coils from within the Crystal settle down into more of whispy smoke, much harder to see in it. There's a slight tug in the direction of the Crystal regardless of where New Gods and Shinki stand, and with that pull, the change effects go away and all are returned to as they were.

[ It's been a second day he'd been like this, and Caster is growing tired of this. He'd very much be back to his own self. Pretending to be Berserker might be funny for a prank, but he would rather not stay in this form permanently. ] Tell me what you see. [ Do you have a sense of humour Ain? He's curious if the strange void-entity would be the only one person to tell them apart now. ]

[abgrund]

[ It depends on whether Caster means seeing with his physical eyes, or with his void ones. But then again, his human form is an illusion as well; so maybe the question is moot. So, after a pause: ]

You are Caster, are you not?

[ The magical signature of the Servant can't be mistaken, even if it is coloured differently. ]

[futhark]

You're the first one to tell- [ Caster relaxes a bit, probably an unsual sight for Berserker form. Good one Ain, but there is a curiosity-- ] What gave me away? [ Ain perceives differently than majority people Caster knows. He can't help but be fascinated by it. ]

[abgrund]

I see much more than a human's eyes would.

[ To accentuate his statement, a couple of eyes appear behind him, then vanish. It's mostly for show, though - he's always in tune with the perception of magic in addition to that of light, so it's just natural. ]

I suppose you have an explanation for your different appearance?

[futhark]

[ Creepy void eyes are creepy, but yeah that surely explains things. Nothing gave him away, Ain is just capable of reading details of his Spirit Origin. ] None at all. I and Berserker switched appearances, but our powers stayed the same, so this is but a cosmetic change. [ To prove his point Caster summons his staff (as opposed to the spear Berserker carries) twirls it once, and lets it dematerialize on the second spin ] I'd rather return to my original appearance, but I am intrigued by what this incident might mean...

[abgrund]

[ The transformation is almost perfect, for better or for worse. ]

I have seen similar changes come upon others. The theory was that it was caused by that crystal in the cultist compound.

[ Though, he doesn't know where it had been moved to, so he's holding off on confronting it for now. ]

[futhark]

[ The Crystal was a strange device, the goddess disappearing in it even stranger. But ultimately Caster had other things to attend, shinki rose save, and he never stayed for the after match. ]

Crystal. [ He parrots ] Tampering with unknown artifacts can brings disaster. But if that's the source of this mess at least undoing it could be easy.

[ He doesn't have the newest info and assumes it is in the compound where they left it ]

[abgrund]

[ There's a lot that can be said and a lot of plans that he has in mind, but... well. Not right now. The chance of collateral damage is too great. ]

We shall see. If it does not revert I intend to address it with the Heavens.

[ He says this smoothly, but there's a slight edge to it; as much of a subtle threat as he will allow himself to give. ]

[futhark]

Careful Ain, someone could say it sounded like a threat. [ Caster isn't all that concerned for the Heavens, but he's not on the "REVOLUTION" train either. He always preferred to keep to his own business, he figured Ain is the same. But if he's not-- then yeah he is curious, what Heaven's did to piss off this incredibly powerful entity. ]

[abgrund]

[ What have they done indeed? There's a whole list of it. ]

I know. I am generally quite patient with things, but I doubt the rest of you are.

[ If anything, he is prepared to face the wrath of the heavens. His existence is pretty much a big middle finger to the goddess that created him, anyway. ]

[futhark]

I don't consider myself patient. [ Which isn't exactly true. Afterlife has tampered him tiny bit. There is simply no rush for anything anywhere. Grail War, saving the world with Chaldea, yeah, maybe he can be back to his impatient self there- but here the stakes are not that great. Even people brought here return to their own without any outside meddling at random- ] I suppose I just don't care enough. [ A beat. ] That doesn't mean that I am no longer curious though. Nor that I will abandon my friends in time of need. [ If they care, he will follow ] So what's your plan.
