A. far shore


[Ren's holding a dagger in one hand and he tosses it at a nearby tree. He's just training and trying to hone his fighting skills. Too bad he's doing it out here in the open. This might be dangerous. Be careful when walking near him.

For those that do know Ren might notice that he looks different. He's wearing what appears to be a black cloak and a mask. It's different from casual wear and it definitely stands out as odd. ]

Wait, I messed up. This isn't going to cut it.

[He waves his hand and tries to greet anyone who passes by.]

B. Temples

[This time he's just trying to take care of some things closer to home. His god, Ain took in some bees. Honestly Ren didn't spend time with them at all. He's outside with a little tiny bee on his finger. It might sting him, but he doesn't seem to care about that. Instead, he looks at you curiously with focused eyes.]


....Do you know what bees like to eat?

[Yeah, this is what he's been pondering about all this time. He never really thought about it.]

I guess so. [Ren watches Edge and then thinks about this more.]

This is an odd situation we've found ourselves in. I wonder if I should try too?

[It seems tricky and he feels like attempting it.]

[Edge may be many things, such as arrogant, boastful, and overly prideful -- but he is the head of the Eblan ninja clan, and not simply because of a fortunate birth. A flick of his wrist, and three shuriken slip into his hand from a concealed slit in his cape, then fly to the target tree in the same motion. They thunk together a vertical line on the trunk.]

[Ren makes a dramatic movement with his hands and tries to juggle some sticks.]

Somehow that looked better in my head. I should just stick to watching the master.

[The floor's all gone to Edge now. Ren doesn't think he's muh good at these things.]

Hey, if you want to learn, I teach! Shuriken and throwing knives are fairly easy to understand and integrate into your combat routine if you understand their purpose.

[Said purpose is not the same for ninjas as most people, but at least he knows that!]

So what would be better for a beginner? A throwing knife or dart?

[ They both have the same purpose in the end. ]


I'm leaning towards knives myself.

Shuriken, in my opinion. It has the advantage of being all point, so you don't have to calculate the rotation. Following that, throwing knife. Something to keep in mind is that for most people, the real point of a throwing weapon isn't to actually cause meaningful harm to your opponent. It's to make them flinch, keep them back, or otherwise threaten them with the possibility of harm.
