Book Party [ota]

Who: Romeo, Elfnein and literally everyone in the heavens. Even if you weren't personally invited every invite came with a +ALL YOUR FRIENDS and there's also a sign. Strangers are just friends these two haven't met yet.
When: 29th April. Afternoon onwards
Where: Temple Smol (Gegute's library)
What: Just the cutest book party the heavens has ever known! Bring your best book!

Arrival

You might have received an invitation, or perhaps you are just passing Gegute’s library but there is an brightly painted sign outside.

Book Party today!

Everyone welcome! Bring your best book or dress up!

Lots of tasty food!

The doors of the temple are open and once you arrive in the lobby there are more bright arrows pointing the way into the library. If you are still stuck mister Goat is at the help desk, he’ll direct any one who needs it!

Activities

The layout of the library hasn’t really changed at all, except a few tables being moved to accommodate activities and all the comfy reading cushions have been brought to a central location. All the shelves are decorated with colourful paper chains and streamers.

Romeo had really enjoyed Yuna’s birthday party with the activities to do so he had copied the idea for Elfnein’s book party! On one table there is material for making bookmarks. You might want to recut the card strips, they are a little wonky. There is ribbon and glitter and colouring pens and glue.

On another there is a cardboard box puppet theatre, painted in a riot of colours with colourful strips of material as curtains. There is some felt and other material, as well as scissors, glue and wool to make puppets with. A sign reads in childish Hirigana. Show your best book!

Food

The invitations had promised lots of tasty food and there sure was a lot! A whole table filled with tasty treats, Romeo had been very very busy! There was a whole tray of chopped fruit, another of vegetables like carrots and cucumber.

There was bread and cheese and two bowls of pasta with different sauces. Another bowl of noddles with meat and vegetables. There was a huge bowl of rice too with a tray of grilled fish and a bowl of broccoli and asparagus.

An entire part of the table was taken up by apples and things with apples in them, apple turnovers and even an attempt at an apple pie, it was a bit smushed but probably tasted fine.

There was a tray of very misshapen cookies with messy icing and another of even messier cupcakes with far too much buttercream. There were also churos and a chocolate Gateaux, these seemed to have been bought rather than made, Romeo hadn’t even known where to start it making them!

There was an attempt at making books and other shapes out of rice and vegetables packed in the two bento boxes Ebisu’s temple had given him for Christmas, but they were a bit crumbly, misshapen or just plain strange. In the centre of Romeo’s bento attempts was his magical bento box, every time it was opened there were different fancy bento creations, if the children’s attempts left a lot to be desired.

Have fun!

Your favorite character is a sad one?

[ Lots of people enjoy tragic characters, but she didn't expect someone as young as Romeo to be one of them. Color her a little curious about this book now.

She blinks at the question. ]

My favorite? You mean... from a book?

Err, well... books aren't really my style.

[ Not that she really gave them much of a chance. ]

Never really saw the point when we have movies, you know?

[ Don't tell her that Romeo, you're just making her feel vindicated for being too lazy to pick up a book! ]

See? Everyone thinks movies are better.

[ She looks a little shocked and confused by his following statement. ]

Wait, are you saying that the only one you've seen is that weirdo's home movie?

[ Okay the production on Hibiki's was a little more professional than that but still not what Mordred considers quality entertainment. ]

[ She's kinda surprised by the reaction. ]

Come one, you seriously don't think Hibiki Shikyoin is a little strange?

Fine, fine. It wasn't even that mean anyway.

[ Weirdo certainly doesn't rank very high on the list of mean things she's said before.

Still, she doesn't want to argue with a child over how weird Hibiki Shikyoin is— She'll just count Romeo's admission of her strangeness as a victory and move on. ]

Anyway, forget about Hibiki, you still haven't answered my question.

There's always stuff happening, that's what keeps it interesting!

[ Action flicks are Mordred's favorite but she's only seen a few superhero films so far. ]

Was it too much for ya?

Well yeah, I mean it'd be annoying if someone was asking a bunch of questions while you were trying to watch something.

[ It's not so bad for Mordred, mostly because she gets so absorbed when she's watching stuff that she just completely ignores the existence of everyone around her. ]

I suppose you could always watch movies at home if you really can't keep your mouth shut. You can even pause it to ask your questions.

I-I didn't mean that literally— I meant if you really had to ask questions about something watching it at home is better.

[ This politeness and chipper attitude even when being spoken to in a brusque manner... Mordred is beginning to understand how Romeo and Yuna are friends despite the apparent age gap between them. ]

And would you drop the "miss" already? Just call me Saber or Lord Saber.

[ She's only half-serious about the last one. ]

[ She did indeed have a something like a memory dream about having noble heritage but she doesn't quite remember it anymore. Her decision to be called "Lord" isn't informed by memory in this case but has more to do with most medieval and fantasy films she's seen. In those, it's the lords who have the castles, command armies and ride out to battle— so she wants to be a lord. ]

Oh yeah? Says who?

I-It doesn't sound like you know that for sure, Romeo!

[ But it checks with what she's seen in a few movies, not that she's willing to accept it. Still, by his description of lords and ladies, Mordred wouldn't qualify as either. She has no carriage, no horse, and the big house she lives in belongs to Yuna technically. On top of all that she certainly isn't rich. ]

Whatever, I suppose just "Saber" is fine...

[ Don't mind her just being a pouty child over here, Romeo. ]

I-I said it's fine already!

[ Although that particular detail had slipped her mind since she doesn't use such respectful terms when speaking to gods. It makes her regret bringing titles up in the first place since it's just ended in her embarrassment. She thought arguing with a child would be bad but losing an argument is so much worse.

Her mood soured and her pride stung, Mordred turns her attention to the library entrance. ]

There's food inside, right?

[ May as well change the subject to save some face. ]

[ It doesn't show in her expression but the confirmation of vast quantities of free food improves her mood immensely. She opens her mouth to answer his question but finds she actually doesn't have one. ]

Huh... I've never really considered having a favorite. I like burgers, steak, lasagne, ramen, pies, ice cream, chocolate.

[ And she would eat all of those things at the same time. When potatoes, bread and occasionally unspiced meat were all you ate while alive you come to appreciate just about everything else the modern era has to offer. ]

I can't imagine just picking one thing. What about you? Do you have a favorite?
