Who: Romeo, Elfnein and literally everyone in the heavens. Even if you weren't personally invited every invite came with a +ALL YOUR FRIENDS and there's also a sign. Strangers are just friends these two haven't met yet.

Arrival

You might have received an invitation, or perhaps you are just passing Gegute’s library but there is an brightly painted sign outside.

Lots of tasty food!

The doors of the temple are open and once you arrive in the lobby there are more bright arrows pointing the way into the library. If you are still stuck mister Goat is at the help desk, he’ll direct any one who needs it!

Activities

The layout of the library hasn’t really changed at all, except a few tables being moved to accommodate activities and all the comfy reading cushions have been brought to a central location. All the shelves are decorated with colourful paper chains and streamers.

Romeo had really enjoyed Yuna’s birthday party with the activities to do so he had copied the idea for Elfnein’s book party! On one table there is material for making bookmarks. You might want to recut the card strips, they are a little wonky. There is ribbon and glitter and colouring pens and glue.

On another there is a cardboard box puppet theatre, painted in a riot of colours with colourful strips of material as curtains. There is some felt and other material, as well as scissors, glue and wool to make puppets with. A sign reads in childish Hirigana. Show your best book!

Food

The invitations had promised lots of tasty food and there sure was a lot! A whole table filled with tasty treats, Romeo had been very very busy! There was a whole tray of chopped fruit, another of vegetables like carrots and cucumber.

There was bread and cheese and two bowls of pasta with different sauces. Another bowl of noddles with meat and vegetables. There was a huge bowl of rice too with a tray of grilled fish and a bowl of broccoli and asparagus.

An entire part of the table was taken up by apples and things with apples in them, apple turnovers and even an attempt at an apple pie, it was a bit smushed but probably tasted fine.

There was a tray of very misshapen cookies with messy icing and another of even messier cupcakes with far too much buttercream. There were also churos and a chocolate Gateaux, these seemed to have been bought rather than made, Romeo hadn’t even known where to start it making them!

There was an attempt at making books and other shapes out of rice and vegetables packed in the two bento boxes Ebisu’s temple had given him for Christmas, but they were a bit crumbly, misshapen or just plain strange. In the centre of Romeo’s bento attempts was his magical bento box, every time it was opened there were different fancy bento creations, if the children’s attempts left a lot to be desired.

Churros! [They were the first and the best!] But I like lots of sweet things, I got to be careful to only eat them in moderation though!

[But he's a shinki. He can eat anything and everything without worrying.]

[Ugh, this isn't her responsibility, she's not going to mess with the way things are.] What, not ice cream? I thought everyone loved ice cream.

Ice cream is yummy! Mister Iskander got me some in Hawaii because I won him in a running race! It was tasty but so cold.

[So cold it almost hurt but so yummy it was probably worth it!]

Hmmm, what about cake then? [Still trying to find something better than churros. They're nice, but come on!]

Cake is nice too! Did you try the cake miss Ginia brought? It's really nice and has fruit and cream! There's so much different cake and it all can taste really different!

Sure it's nice, but you'd really take a churro over a piece of cake? [Sticking to the hard questions, here.]

[That is a hard question. Churro or cake. Curro or cake...] I think so! They are really yummy! It would be hard to choose though!

Now we're getting somewhere. What about cake with ice cream?

Cake with ice cream. You can put them together?

[That sounded amazing. Two delicious things all smushed together!]

You sure can. It makes them both better. The ice cream moistens the cake and they're just incredible!

[myblueskies]

Wow! We will have to try that!

[He wonders if Elfnein has had ice cream and cake before? He will have to check and then get some for them both to eat together!]

Think it'll put churros to shame. Not that I don't like them...

Do you think so? [This needs to be tested! Because he's not sure anything can beat churros!]

It must be really really delicious then!

Today I'm starting you on a path to real learning. After all, not everything is tucked away in books. Some things you've got to experience for yourself.

[Nia winks at him, still all smug.]

Yes! Just like for Elfnein! She reads lots and lots but hasn't experienced lots of things for herself so now if she reads something fun we go and try it!

[But help in the matter is appreciated! It turns out there's things Romeo can't even imagine! Like cake and ice cream! Together!]

Oh yeah? Like what? [She's real curious what a pair of kids could get up to just based on reading.]

Lots of things! She had never played with a kite before but she had read a book so knew all about how to make it fly! [That had been the day Romeo had met Nia, a long long time ago.] The puppet theatre is something I read in a book too! Elfnein had never seen a puppet show so we decided to make one! And sometimes there are games, or things to make or tasty food that we don't know what it is!

You guys really are making the best of all this, aren't you?

[It's encouraging and depressing all at once. Encouraging because if kids like this can keep having fun and enjoying themselves, this place can't be all bad. Depressing because she can't relax like that.]

Yes? [Why wouldn't they make the best of it? Even though scary things happened some times the heavens were a great place, Romeo and Elfnein had so many friends and each day was a new adventure!]

Do you want to come with us, next time we try something new?

Depends on what it is. And if I have time. Stuff's... you know, heating up around here. [Nia's eyes flick to one side, thoughtful.]

You mean with all the fighting and the bad cultists, miss Nia? [Things had got a little bit scary lately, but Romeo wasn't too worried because he was sure everyone would work together and beat the bad cultists and their ayakashi together!]

Yup, and the gods who aren't part of the Far Shore, and the people behind them. [That being the most relevant part to her.]

The gods in other heavens? Or the ones like Sotero? Are there other gods like Sotero who don't like our heaven?

[He understands very little about what is going on, but it is all very worrying and it is something he thinks about a lot.]

Oh, you must be out of the loop. You haven't heard about other stuff going on?

[Nia comes at this sidelong, unwilling to say too much directly. Even to a kid.]

I know things... About the bad cultists and we went and broke in their house.

[Zetta had made him and Elfnein leave though, after the bad ayakashi attacked, so he didn't know about anything after that.]
