[ He raises his eyebrows. ]

You know. The way superheroes are. All honorable and nice and do-gooder. It's not a bad thing.

[ That's a new one. ]

[Stop giving off this aura of goodness then!! And stop looking like a superhero, all chiseled and dorito-like!!!!!]

Yeah, I hope so too. I'd hate to be disappointed.

[ A waitress comes on over, and Shiro orders a milk tea! As well as a snack for their four-legged friend. ]

[He may or may not need it, depending on what he remembers first. But that's fine.

He gets a milk tea as well, plus some pastries. He's a hungry boy, okay? And everything here sounds delicious.]

[ Don't worry, he's very aware of that!!

Shiro leans back against the couch, right as a black cat hops up to join them. ]

So... Are you settling in alright?

I try my best.

[Finger guns.

And gasp, a new friend. Lance reaches out to pet them, a soft smile on his face.

That then quickly drops.]

Yeah, mostly, I just... Keep meeting people who knew me before, but now I have no idea who they are.

[ Oh, oof. Shiro nods, stroking a hand down the cat's back. He doesn't know how it works for memories forged here; can a shinki regain those, instead of just ones from home? And... if Lance does remember anything, what'll it be? There's a lot for Lance to remember. His time as a paladin, at the garrison, his family...

Shiro hopes he remembers his family first. They're so important. ]

I'm sorry. That's got to be tough.

[ At the very least, Lance is still here, which is a good thing... but at the same time, it has to bother Lance. It'd bother Shiro, anyway. ]

I hope they've been understanding about it.

[Lance shrugs, trying to act flippant. He doesn't want to seem like he's bothered by this.

But he is. There's so much missing and he doesn't know if he'll ever get it back. He doesn't even know if it would be a good thing if he remembered it. From the way Yoon was talking, it seems...so final. So certain that if he gets his memory back it'll be a bad thing.]

I think so. They seem to at least not expect me to...fill in for whatever it is I'm forgetting. Probably used to stuff like this happening.

[There's a pause, as Lance thinks.]

Do people...disappear from here often?

I'm not surprised. Everyone is pretty aware that bad things happen if you tell a shinki about their past.

[ He pauses. ]

Yeah. I've had a few friends disappear from here.

[ He remembers how he'd found Roxas, after his god had left. He'd been alone where the temple had been not a day before. He remembers Pidge and Hunk just... being gone. And then Roxas and Sora, too. ]

One of my shinki has lost a lot of gods in the past. There aren't ever any signs that someone'll leave. They're here one day, and the next, if they're a god... their temple is just gone. It's never easy for anyone.

Except for shinkis who have just shown up.

[Unless that was part of the overview he was supposed to get he didn't really pay attention to.

Either way, it seems like a raw deal.]

I'm sorry. [He sighs. He hadn't meant for things to get so dark, but... He can't ignore the possibility of disappearing forever.] How often do they come back?

[ He shakes his head. ]

It's alright. [ It's... very much not alright, but he can at least pretend it is. ] I'm not really sure. A lot of the people I knew who left... they haven't come back. You'd have to ask someone else who's been here longer, if you're really curious.

[It doesn't sound like it's alright, and Lance doubts it is, but he's already soured the mood enough.]

Right... [He puffs out his cheeks.] Seems like everyone who's been here long already knew me, though. It's kind of weird.

[Kind of is putting it simply.]

[ Shiro nods, and he honestly feels bad. He knows he can't help it, but... he wishes he could do something for Lance. He feels responsible for helping him... even though his days as the leader of Voltron are long gone. ]

I can imagine. I wish there was a way to make it easier, but... that's not always how it works.

[ He could say that there's a chance he could remember something, but... he isn't sure it's a guaranteed thing. Seems pretty unreliable, and he won't get Lance's hopes up. ]

Well... at least there are cats and good food and coffee here.

[Lance will be fine. Mostly fine. Probably fine? He feels bad that he can't be the Lance other people remember, but...

Maybe that's not his responsibility? It definitely feels like it is.

He perks up at the mention of cats, though, forcing all the worries from his mind.]

That's right!

[He leans over to give the cats some good, good scritches.]

And they'll make everything better, won't you?

[ The cats are absolutely soaking up all the attention. Lance u sucker. ]

There's nothing better than a cat making its home on your lap.

... Unless it's more than five. Then you run into problems.

[He is very much a sucker, but it's fine!! It's better than moping.]

You have like, what, ten cats at the temple? How often do they want your attention all at the same time?

[That sounds like heaven. It would only be made better if there were cute people around also fawning over you.]

Something like that.

[ He gives one of the cats a scritch behind the ears. ]

Often enough, honestly. They can be really needy when they want to be. If I didn't wake up so early anyway, they'd be my own personal alarm clock. Ten cats meowing at once?

Deafening.

[That's a lot of cats.

He smiles softly, fondly, though it's totally just because cats are really great. Nothing at all to do with how like...nice and charming this guy is!!]

You should be grateful for them. It keeps you on schedule!

[ He lets out a quiet laugh before nodding. ]

True. Sometimes I think they might be better at that than I am. Food's a great motivator.

Food is probably the best motivator - have you seen the things people'll do because they'll get free food after? It's insane.

[And not. Super the point, but still! People, especially people Lance's age, will go the extra mile for food!]

Especially when you're a student.

[ Or you suck at cooking. (He sucks at cooking. But he's gotten at least a little better.) ]

Must be nice, being a cat. You don't have to worry about food, you get to sleep anytime and anywhere you want....

I think I'd like being a cat. All the attention and love you get...It'd be great.

Good point. Maybe someone should take care of that. Make sure people aren't slacking.

[ He says it almost completely seriously, before he grins. ]

Too bad my power isn't to turn into a cat. That'd be pretty amazing, if a little... inefficient. Especially against larger enemies.
