Summary: The Heavens don't like things being cluttered, so it's time to clean up a little bit.







Main Hall

While the main hall of the Heavens seems spotlessly clean at all times, that's not the case at all. In fact, it's been at least a decade since the last time they actually cleaned everything out properly. There are a lot of hidden closets and back rooms that have layers of dust and dozens of boxes filled with nothing but junk. Who knows, though! You might find something interesting and useful in there along with all the garbage.

Suprises

Unfortunately, some of the older temples on the Far Shore seem to have some interesting surprises tucked away, ranging from cursed artifacts all the way to magical creatures locked up in long-forgotten rooms. You are free to be creative with this as a way to get your characters into trouble while cleaning.

Complimentary Dinner

After all of your hard work, you deserve to have some tasty food and refreshing beverages. So the Heavens have provided that for you, so that you can wind down after a long day. It's not as fancy as the banquets they often put on, but there is a nice array of food and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Counselling

As usual, there is a white-robed shinki bearing the gold chrysanthemum of Amaterasu sitting at a table in the Main Hall. There is a small sign that denotes her as the counselling shinki. Anyone is welcome to approach her, and she will smile serenely at anyone passing by as well.

Not even a bookshelf, only an old box. I'm sure it was just a forgotten trinket.

[And it's best to leave that forgotten, in his opinion. He brightens, smiling at her.]

Well, how has your spring-cleaning been going so far, Sheryl?

[galactically]

[If she can read his mind, she'd instantly agree with him. There's a long, drawn-out sigh from her end.]

I found porn, Mr. Hakkai! And I had to clean every single vase. Every. Single. One.

Well, vases do look much better with no dust on them.

[As for the porn?

Well, there are a lot of teenage boys around here. Hakkai supposes it might be better not to make that comment out loud. Sheryl doesn't look like she's in an understanding mood.]

They seem to keep all sorts of things in these storerooms. Do you suppose it's where all those things that have been showing up recently come from?

[galactically]

Who knows? But I take issue with them having all of us do all their work.

[She spares some of the contents an idle glance before folding her arms across her bust.]

With all the filth I found, I'm not sure if I want to know more!

Don't you? But some people have recognized the things they found, haven't they?

[All gods, of course! Shinki haven't recognized anything at all. Although from what Gojyo had admitted about Jeep, Hakkai's willing to bet that it's not just the gods' mysterious items that have had some meaning to them.]

If those really did spill out of the storerooms, I'd be very curious about what else might be there!

[galactically]

I just hope it's not more porn!

[But Hakkai's question causes her expression to shift from disgust to curiosity, an instant reminder of the nicer things she found with someone else. Her finger curls around her chin in thought.]

Well... I did find some nice fabric in some boxes that were going to be thrown out. Precious things shouldn't belong in the garbage.

Yes, there certainly could be some treasures in all of these storerooms! I've found a few things I think I'll keep myself.

[He glances over at his pile of records.]

[galactically]

[Curiously, Sheryl follows his glance and walks over to the pile of records.]

My, you must really be a collector of these if you're willing to keep them.

[reformedsinner]

I'm really very curious about how our Heavenly administration works! These might give me some insight.

[His laugh is a little artificial, but it sounds realistic enough.]

Although I'm sure they're very boring reading.

[galactically]

Paperwork is not my thing at all, really, but...

[She trails off, hiking up an eyebrow as Hakkai's words bring something to mind.]

I wonder what the hiring process is like for the Heavens.

[reformedsinner]

Do you suppose they hire? I always assumed they appointed shinki to those sorts of tasks.

[It'd make sense, but Hakkai has to admit he hasn't thought much about it at all.]

[galactically]

If they do, the process should be very difficult to get into, right? Ideally, they'd hire the most competent people for the job.

[Or so Sheryl likes to think, but her tone says one thing: she doesn't think too highly of the Heavens.]

[reformedsinner]

Ah, I couldn't name any specific experiences with bureaucracy, but somehow, I don't think that's always how it works....

[He beams aggressively.

His tone is unobjectionable, but, on the other hand, the words suggest he doesn't think too highly of the Heavens, either.]

[galactically]

What a shame that their administration turned out like this, right?

[Most sarcastic smile ever, still keeping the tone from earlier.]

Super lame!

Oh, I'm sure they're trying as hard as they can.

[Hakkai pulls the last handful of papers from the bottom of the box and shuffles through them. Blank, blank, blank, meaningless swirls in a few different shades of ink as though someone was testing their ink mixture.... no, nothing useful there. The whole handful goes into the junk pile.]

They do seem to need some help around here, though, don't they?

[galactically]

Is that why we've been all sent here from different places?

[Sheryl can't help but ask, suddenly remembering her conversation with Hajime on how they are both needed by the Heavens. She darts her eyes over to the stacks of papers, flicking back and forth between the ones from the junk pile and the rest.]

They need us to fight those monsters. [Is that it?]

[reformedsinner]

I don't know.

[Hakkai's shrug is infinitesimal. He sits back on his heels, considering the piles he's working on.]

I'm not sure any of us really know why we're here... or if they do, they haven't been very loud about it.

[galactically]

Miss Amaterasu said that she's working on finding out what brought us here.

[If she remembers correctly, that is. It's been a while. Leaning against a nearby wall, she folds her arms across her bust, the slightest of tension on her forehead and nose.]

I wish I knew.

[reformedsinner]

I wonder. I'm sure it's troublesome for them to have us all here, but they've gotten some use out of us, too.

[And would they really care what brought the new gods and shinki here, except insofar as it poses a threat to the Heavens? The Heavens haven't showed too much concern so far about their safety or comfort. And yet, on the other hand, they also haven't simply wiped them out.

That could be because they're not sure how many of them will come back, and in what shape, of course.]

[galactically]

I don't want to say this, but if they plan to use us... they might as well be heartless until the very end.

[Sheryl suspects there is an ulterior motive involved with the people working at the Heavens. Tsuzuki already warned her that they will kill her, that they don't care human laws, or what other gods think of them. She presses her lips together to form a thin line.]

If we're not useful at all, I'm sure there won't be too much tolerance for any trouble we might cause.

[Be more useful than you are troublesome: that's the recipe for convincing authority not to crush you.

Not that he's cynical, of course. Perish the thought.]

[galactically]

Now that's a nicer way of saying there will be divine punishment on us.

[Her wording is just as nice and polite, if not masking as much suspicion as she could from her tone. Her face, on the other hand...]

This is too depressing!

I'm afraid it's something we'll just have to get used to!

[Unless they want to defy the Heavens. And that's not something Hakkai plans to recommend doing while they're sitting in the Great Hall, even if it is a disused inside storeroom.]

[galactically]

No, thanks! I want to focus on more positive things.

[Like not worrying about whether or not the Heavens can actually kill people or make them disappear on a whim. Even she only has guesses, the kind that she'd rather put on the backburner.]
