Summary: The Heavens don't like things being cluttered, so it's time to clean up a little bit.







Main Hall

While the main hall of the Heavens seems spotlessly clean at all times, that's not the case at all. In fact, it's been at least a decade since the last time they actually cleaned everything out properly. There are a lot of hidden closets and back rooms that have layers of dust and dozens of boxes filled with nothing but junk. Who knows, though! You might find something interesting and useful in there along with all the garbage.

Suprises

Unfortunately, some of the older temples on the Far Shore seem to have some interesting surprises tucked away, ranging from cursed artifacts all the way to magical creatures locked up in long-forgotten rooms. You are free to be creative with this as a way to get your characters into trouble while cleaning.

Complimentary Dinner

After all of your hard work, you deserve to have some tasty food and refreshing beverages. So the Heavens have provided that for you, so that you can wind down after a long day. It's not as fancy as the banquets they often put on, but there is a nice array of food and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Counselling

As usual, there is a white-robed shinki bearing the gold chrysanthemum of Amaterasu sitting at a table in the Main Hall. There is a small sign that denotes her as the counselling shinki. Anyone is welcome to approach her, and she will smile serenely at anyone passing by as well.

[Hakkai smiles politely and vanishes out the door, returning in a few minutes with the spider-creature bits disposed of, using a handkerchief to carefully clean around the nails of one hand.]

One more trip should do it, I think!

[He watches Hakkai bustle about busily, cleaning up his mess. What a responsible person or something like that.]

Actually. May I have one of those legs?

[Because his god had amazing screaming capacity and he wanted to know if other temples could hear him shriek.]

Certainly. Take as many as you like.

[There are quite a few of them. It might have vaguely resembled a spider in body plan, but Hakkai's estimating two dozen legs minimum. What an odd monster. Perhaps someone had been experimenting.]

[Experimentation or not, they're a little fascinating, so he might have a look at them before playing tricks on the flailing God of Mercy.

He goes over to the pile of monster bits and picks up a few of the legs.]

Thank you. I think I can get some use out of these.

[As if he's going to be using them for some good purpose.

But this man seems to have an even keeled head on his shoulders...sort of.]

May I take up some of your time when you're finished here? I understand that you're busy, but I am new to this whole--[He makes a vague gesture with his free hand.]--thing and have a few questions.

I wouldn't mind at all. Are those all you'll need?

[Hakkai's sweeping the remainder of the pile into his arms as he asks; grab weird spider-monster bits now, or forever lose the pieces, Jade.

He raises his eyebrows inquisitively as he straightens up with the dripping limbs in hand.]

Oh yes. This is plenty. You have my thanks.

[He shifts the limbs so that they're cradling in his arms.

He looks at the ooze on the floor.]

I'll mop up here while you dispose of those. Sound good?

[As much as he disliked menial chores, he was going to be asking Hakkai for information. It only seemed fair to do something for him in turn.]

Ha ha, I can't complain, can I?

[After all, Jade's mopping up after his stress relief dismemberment. Hakkai'd thought he would have to do it himself.

He disappears again, and, after about the same amount of time, reappears minus an armload of spider monster parts and with a few more unfortunate stains on his shirt from the remaining ooze. He's trying to dab at one.]

Ah, I'll just have to soak this shirt later. You had some questions, Jade?

[When he returns, Jade is mopping up the mess thoroughly. If he was going to be compensated with something as valuable as information, he might as well do a good job with it.

He spares an acknowledging glance at the man then nods his head as he moves the wet mop across the remains.]

Yes.

First off, the only thing I know about the purpose of us shinki is to help our god answer prayers or grant wishes.

How exactly is that accomplished? Have you assisted your own god in answering prayers already?

Also, you mentioned a shinki magic class. Do you have more details regarding a time and a place?

It depends on the prayer. I've helped her tutor mortal students and defeat ayakashi, so far. If it's a prayer for a certain outcome -- such as passing a test or having a neighborhood quiet down -- then any sort of action that achieves the outcome will do.

The class is Tuesdays at three p.m. at Menrva's temple. We usually meet out in the courtyard, just in case a borderline goes awry.

[He laughs politely, leaning back against the wall to stay out of the way of Jade and the mop.]

[Jade looks up from his mopping towards Hakkai.]

I see. That makes a bit of sense.

[He uses his free hand to tuck his long hair behind his ear.]

I'm not familiar with the terms "ayakashi" or "borderline", but I'm guessing that will be gone into more depth at the lessons?

Are gods required to accompany their shinki to the lessons?

[It would probably be a good idea for his own god to come along since he seemed a bit lost in all of this.

He pushed around the mop a bit more before going to rinse it off into the water bucket.]

No. In fact, I'm not sure a god would have very much to do there!

[Hakkai pulls his handkerchief out again -- since Jade's busy, and he had promised to help out, and Hakkai still has spider guts under his fingernails that he could use a bit of work to clean out -- and begins to work on the spears on his hands.]

Ayakashi are corrupted souls. They come in all sorts of forms, but regardless, they tend to enjoy attacking at least the souls of the dead, and usually living humans as well.

[Jade nods at the information, mulling it over in his brain quickly.

He may bring his God anyways so that he could learn a thing or two without him having to relay information from the practices.]

So then we, as shinki,help to dispel those creatures with our gods to help purge themail corruption? Is that about the gist of it?

[He runs the rinsed mop back over the spot where the ick had previously been, just giving it a last once over.]

Are aLloyd shinki weapons?

Not all of us, no.

It's particularly useful for those of us who don't have weapon forms to learn other techniques -- at least, if we don't have fighting skills of our own.

[He raises his eyebrows in curious invitation: after all, Jade seemed unusually casual about gore, even monstrous gore, for someone who didn't have some fighting experience.

Even as a new shinki, he might have the same instinctive sense of what he was and was not comfortable doing that Hakkai had.]

[Jade notes the curiosity and he would certainly love to indulge him, but he had less idea of the details himself than he was comfortable with. He feels like an insanely vast amount of knowledge is just gone. But oh well.

Jade merely shrugs.]

That is fascinating. I wonder if the form we take is based on the god or the individual...

[He rubs his chin thoughtfully with his clean hand.]

I suppose that's something to ponder in my spare time.

[He finishes up the mopping then rinses and squeezes out the mop one last time.]

[He smiles pleasantly and politely.]
