[ Somehow, the remark feels a little off to him. Nagi's not sure why. Society is structured, rigid. So many rules. Maybe this is why he never really feels like he belongs, even after death. He cares so little about how people line things up in order, putting value on things Nagi doesn't understand. ]

[ He studies this guy's face for a moment. ]

Is that what you think?

Not really, no.

[He shrugs. It's a useful rubric, if one wants to use it that way, for judging how someone might react to something or something else. What you can get away with, but.]

But enough people defend the status quo to the point that they must really believe so.

[ It's like magical thinking. Believe in something strong enough and maybe it'll actually be true. Life isn't so easy. ]

That's pretty stupid, [ he says bluntly. ]

They think so, too, I'm sure. [Or they should.]

But they're not creative enough to think of a better idea.

Hmph.

[ Maybe they should just tear down the whole system, then. ]

What do you think is a better idea?

Not that creative. [No beat missed. Said as casually as possible.]

Can't think of anyone I'd trust to be that creative, either, not without screwing it up for the rest of us.

[ That's probably for the best. He doesn't know this guy, but he seems clever enough to know when to not-know. A real fool would make stuff up. ]

You're kind of weird, [ he says with a snort. But there's nothing malicious about it. He might even be somewhat amused. ]

Weird is relative. How do you know you're not one, and I'm perfectly normal?

[Though he is right. Youji would also venture to say a few other things were different about his mental capacity, but...]

[ Hm. ]

Maybe.

[ Nagi is pretty sure he's not quite normal either. ]

I guess if you're a god, you're supposed to be infallible anyway. [ And you can tell by his tone that he's totally believes that. Ha. ]

You guess, or you know?

[It's okay, he's in the same boat. He certainly doesn't feel infallible. That would be such a momentous change for him, there should be a difference, some kind of cataclysmic restructuring of his entire makeup.]

But it wouldn't be very godlike to assume otherwise, I suppose.

[ Nagi gives him a look and a snort. No one is infallible. Least of all made-up gods. (Though who knows, if Nagi had memories of a certain oracle who could meticulously construct a perfect plan based on visions of the future, maybe he would reconsider this assessment). ]

I'm not the one who's making up the rules, [ he says dryly. ]

Know who is? Could tell them a thing or two.

[Using "tell" very broadly. Surprisingly, finding himself mostly agreeing with Schwarz doesn't surprise him. Must be that late "enemy of my enemy" thing that just happened to him.]

... Amaterasu.

[ He says it with some skepticism though. He hasn't seen her himself, so it's hard to judge what the extent of her influence and power really is. ]

What would you tell them?

That I haven't been here 24 hours and already this is stupid.

[Rustling out a cigarette now and getting into his mouth over the duration of that sentence.]

Telling me everything I do is just is dangerous, and that's just me.

At least you know that much. [ Some people might let this whole god/infallible business get to their heads. Somehow he has a feeling that this is fallacy. As if maybe he's known someone like this before... ]

Well, would you know it? If you were told everything you did was just.

[Is that a compliment? Probably not. A grudging acknowledgment, maybe.]

[ It's not like Nagi will do anything differently just because someone else tells him it's 'just.' ]

That's either the most or the least teenage thing I've ever heard anyone say. I really can't tell.

[ Well it's not like Nagi remembers being a teenager. But even so, he has a feeling he's not like most teenagers. ]

If you say so. I'm gonna go now. [ He decides not to ask again about whether this guy will say anything about the destroyed dragon sculpture. With luck, he's forgotten already. ]
