Konzen isn't sure what he just heard coming out of his mouth. A thanks? But not really? It seems pretty clear to him at first, but then Genjo denies thanking him. It's just like the time he admitted he was in pain and that he should talk about it, but insisted on ignoring the problem instead. There's a thing that's obvious, but he'll pretend that it's not. Why is he like this?

Though he supposes that if their roles had been reversed, Konzen might have objected to expressing thanks, too. Explicitly, anyway. ]

[ Okay, so that's a response. It counts. His expression isn't as perplexed anymore, but maybe something akin to understanding. ]

That was some spell you had there.

[ So yeah, maybe also a thank you / not-thank you. ]

[ That is an undeniable reflection, isn't it? He wants to be more aggravated than he is.

Instead, he makes a non-committal sound in the back of his throat, and tilts his head back to look at the branches above. ]

Turns out that one of the Founding Scriptures of Heaven and Earth has its uses. [ He might as well put that all out on the table. ] It did more than bind that noisy wild monkey.

[ Whoa. Eyes are wide and expression agape. ]

You mean you didn't know what it did....?

[ Well, fuck. It's like giving a child a loaded gun, isn't it? Not that it's Genjo's fault for having no memories, but what the hell. ]

How did you figure it out?

[ Sanzo scowls only briefly at that reaction. In truth, he had his moments of feeling similarly. It's a lot of power to be used by an amnesiac that could have gone right to hell in the wrong situation.

But it hadn't gone horribly wrong. It'd worked. ]

Instinct, mostly. There's another priest around here that gave me the idea. [ He snorts ruefully. ] I remembered something, after. I've done it before.

The other priest...you mean, the woman?

[ With your name? (Does that mean she's partly Konzen too?) Shit, why is everything so weird around here? ]

Not her. There's this weird crow bastard- another Sanzo priest, Ukoku. [ The woman with his name is something else entirely, and he's not even sure where to start when it comes to her. There's something different going on there. ] We should start a damn union at this rate.

....how many of you are there?

[ Not that Konzen knows much about sanzo priests or priests in general, but he figures those who know about sutras that can explode and tame a rampaging Seiten Taisei surely must be few and far between. ]

Just the three, probably. Who knows how long that'll last.

I don't want this much power conveniently at hand for whoever started this, but...

[ How long, as in ... maybe one of them will disappear? Or another might show up (possibly from another dimension)? How funny strange it is that either thing is perfectly possible.

Though if Konzen were truly honest, he's not sure how he'd feel about Genjo disappearing. ]

Hmph. Well, I wouldn't be surprised if someone took notice. Or maybe they already knew.

[ He pauses for a moment before he broaches the next subject, if only because he doesn't want to sound like he's concerned. Because he's not. Well, not really. But maybe he's curious. ]

I heard about Elsa.

[ He stills briefly at that statement. Almost imperceptibly, a muscle jumps in his jaw as he clenches it. ]

Did you? [ He's quieter now, and only in part because he doesn't want his words to carry. ]

She made a bad call and she paid for it. That's all.

[ A bad call. Well, maybe. Konzen's not sure he wouldn't have made the same decision, had he been conscious enough in the aftermath. Instead, he stumbled outside after the gods who came for Goku, and then passed out before he could do anything to stop them. He's not exactly proud of that moment, even if it might have saved him from Elsa's fate. ]

...it should've been me.

[ he says quietly. Bad call or not, it's the truth. ]

Don't give me a bullshit line like that.

[ They're lucky that he hadn't. If Konzen had been just as stupid as Elsa, would Heaven have even released Goku? It had been Konzen who had saved them by recreating Goku's limiter.

The idea sends a chill down his spine. He can't afford to think about it. ] If you want to be killed, you're going to have to suck it up and wait.

[ At least until Goku could freely act on his own. ]

[ Konzen scowls. Who said anything about wanting to be killed? Sometimes, that's just how it is. And maybe it hits a little close to home, because he left Goku alone once before. He never wanted to die in front of him. He did what he had to and at the time, that was all he had in him. ]

I'm not rushing off to die, [ he says, a little testily. But he does understand what Genjo means, much as it irritates him to hear him say it. He glances at him. ]

I still have stuff to do, apparently. [ Too soon yet to pass the baton. And maybe that's his way of saying, you need to get yourself together too, Genjo Sanzo. ]
