[Ugh, damnit, he can't tell what's happening if she just covers it up like that...! But he's not too surprised to see bare skin. The device could be small enough to fit on a suit underneath the fabric, or maybe it's projecting an image of bare skin now. He'll need more data to be sure. Watching can only tell him so much.
He snaps back to attention from his thoughts when she makes another announcement. Another concert would be useful for his research for sure, but the next words to come out of her mouth seal the deal—
A special effects extravaganza.
Ah... perhaps an even more elaborate display of her technology?! If he can prepare for it in advance, he'll be able to gather much more data. Not only that, but if it's a chance to infiltrate her temple... he might even be able to take some of her technology home for proper study. Or take some of the technology hostage to get even more information out of her!
It's the perfect chance. He'll definitely be able to make her regret turning him down before...!
And so, while the rest of the crowd is cheering, Add is... cackling to himself like a psychotic weirdo, completely oblivious to his own surroundings.
This is, uh. Normal?]
no subject
Why is Add looking like a psycho? Why is he scaring those four people?
Quick, time to fix this.]
Everyone, it's time for me to say goodbye to this stage. But don't worry! I'll make sure to sing to all of you once more. Sheryl Nome will never forget each and every one of you who danced and cheered for me. As a performer, this makes me happy!
[This seems to placate the audience at least, so clapping ensues. She grins, pointing at the microphone that she's holding.]
My time may have ended, but this doesn't mean the fun ends there. Who wants to come up and sing right now on this very stage that I'm standing on? Hmm, let's see...
[Sheryl peers over the audience, her eyes darting across the faces gazing upon her until she settles on Add. Uh-oh.]
I know! How about you?
no subject
Even Sheryl is looking at him. Why is she grinning at him like that?! There's no way she's onto his plan already. He clears his throat and glances around again, trying to look cool.
... This is really way too awkward. He can't even try to pretend he hasn't noticed. Once it becomes painfully obvious he isn't getting out of this he glares at her.]
What about me?
no subject
Come up on stage and sing, scarecrow! You must have a nice voice, right?
[Did she just give Add a nickname in public? You betcha. Her bout of shamelessness seems to extend to her spiels on stage with her audience. At least it's tame, though, compared to her usual appearances at Tenkumon Hall where revealing outfits and daring transformation sequences reign supreme.]
Axel
I guess it depends a lot on who you end up with at the start. [Add didn't like Roxas at first, but he did a pretty good job of proving himself to be a reliable god... if that weren't the case, though, maybe he would've considered the nora option himself, as much as he hates the idea of having to serve anyone at all.
He pulls another cookie out of his basket to chomp on. The pink icing is the best kind.]
Mm, but we do know the difference between god and shinki isn't as clear cut for us as it is for the natives. If a shinki can become a god and vice versa, there may be other methods to do so besides dying and hoping for the best. At the very least, there may be methods for us to gain a greater advantage against the gods here.
[Like that shinki girl who remembered something... supposedly, anyway. And then she vanished a week or so later. So, maybe not the best example to draw upon, but it's still something contrary to what they've been told.]
no subject
[She's nice! Weird, but nice. Especially once he'd learned how to get along with her.]
Sounds like you've got something you're thinking of. What kind of methods?
no subject
[He's quiet for a moment, hesitating. It's hard to think about prying at his own memories when his instincts are always urging him to stop, but that only makes the scientist in him more and more curious. Still, it's difficult to focus on the problem long enough to test his theories. If he had someone else to work with, maybe...
He looks around briefly, but no one else is around to eavesdrop. Not that it really matters, but it settles his nerves a little. He speaks a little more quietly.]
We know we don't follow the same rules as the natives. There was at least one new shinki who regained a memory of some sort—that's completely unheard of among the native shinki. We have the drive programmed into us to avoid discussion of our memories, but that might be all it is. We were shaped to follow the rules of the shinki, but that doesn't mean we are shinki.
Maybe for larger memories... there could still be risks from the mental stress of overcoming the shinki programming, but if we start with something small... It'd be easier if we knew what memory that other shinki regained or how she did it, but I have a feeling it was something minor. She seemed uncertain and denied it after, so it couldn't have been anything large.
no subject
[The topic's unsettling all on its own. A spontaneous shudder slips icily down Axel's spine, and he makes a face, crossing his arms.]
So. Sounds to me like what you're saying is there's no way to know what memories do to us unless we ask about them.
no subject
... something they can't talk about, even if they might want to...
Add sighs, rubbing a hand to his temples. He has to bury that thought—he still can't face it himself, even if it might be true.]
Starting small might be... easier. Hopefully. [he sounds even less sure than he did before.] First we'd need to find out if there's anyone who might have that information, or any other source it could be obtained from. The next step would be to carefully push against those urges until we can breach the subject properly. I think, if we're able to do that, we should be able to gradually work towards regaining our full memories without shocking our systems. It would have to be done with caution, but it should be doable.
no subject
[Axel's voice is more dubious than encouraging. He glances away from Add, a thoughtful scowl darkening his face. So, to test that, what they need to do is find somebody who knows something about them. Some gods might know. Especially their gods. Especially people who've gotten close to them...
He's got an idea. He doesn't know if it's a good idea, but it might be worth a shot.]
The first step'd have to be finding out something little. Right?
no subject
But he's confident it isn't. After all, the fact that memories were recovered at all proves that the rules don't fully apply. Maybe their god might get blighted depending on what the information is about, but taking things slowly should be enough to prevent any serious damage just in case.]
The less significant the better. We won't know anything about how it works until we try, so it's better than sitting on our hands and hoping it'll come back to us on its own. If you have any suggestions, I'm open to them.
no subject
[Most of them, anyway. Ayumu hadn't really reacted as strongly as Roxas had, and with Sora, they'd been in a fight to begin with... so who knows?]
Could be worth asking them, just to see.
no subject
Hmm. If your theory is correct, then having multiple gods would also make things easier. If one god is too stubborn, you could go to a different one rather than trying to wear the first one down. [He doesn't know much about Axel's gods, but he knows for sure that his Roxas is way too stubborn to cave to interrogation. Disadvantages of being paired with a living AI.] If anyone is going to have success with this, you're the most likely candidate.
[So, he's not saying Axel should try to get information about himself from his gods, but he's definitely implying that it would be a really great idea.
It'll probably be fine. I mean, what's the worst that could happen??]
no subject
[Add's right, though. If their gods do learn something about them, then Axel's got a decent chance of dragging someone into telling him what it is. Deku's out, obviously. Sora'd probably get all weird about it, and Pippa's stubborn in ways he can't predict. Ayumu's been distracted and worn out with her new shinki.
That leaves Roxas. Who might also get weird, but they're friends and not just god and shinki, right? Maybe, Axel thinks, he can get Roxas to spill.]
We'll see. If I figure anything out, I'll give you a ring.
no subject
You don't have to do much. This is just about testing the limits, not unlocking your entire past.
I'll see what else I can find out about it as well... if the gods are unwilling or unable to share, we might need to find another method.

Jennifer
[Damn, she really is eager to please. He looks between her and the cake, starting to feel a little unsure about this. It's no fun at all when it's this easy...
He scoffs, taking another bite of dango instead. She can hold the box out all she wants, but Add isn't going to take it this time. Enjoy your stupid shortcake.]
You must be new here.
Zoro
[He looks over it for a second, then plucks out what is decidedly the "best" mochi of Zoro's selection and takes a bite out of it. He can at least be polite enough to go one at a time.]
Not bad. At least the Heavens know how to get one thing right... [They're pretty good at throwing parties.]
no subject
Their booze is delicious, no matter what kind you drink too! I bet they have some good ones for those sweets you like.
no subject
[He answers a bit uncertainly. Alcohol doesn't sound too appealing... but maybe he should try a little bit? Since he's already at this party and all, and drinking the literal booze of the gods isn't something most people get to experience. As long as he doesn't drink too much it should be fine...]
Something to go with sweets, then. [...whatever that would be. He's honestly not even sure if he's had alcohol before.] Hrm. Perhaps you'd have a recommendation?
no subject
[Immediate response.]
The iced one, it's super sweet!
Ross
[Add is mere inches away from reaching into his basket to take out those adorable sakura-shaped cookies when they completely vanish at his fingertips. He stares blankly at the empty spot in his basket. When the cookies don't magically reappear, he tries searching the rest of the basket, lifting it up in case it somehow fell out (???), and then finally looking around to see if anyone else is doing anything suspicious.
And his gaze eventually falls on Ross. Didn't he steal those cookies from that guy? Add narrows his eyes, but he's not going to say anything just yet. He's watching you, pal.]
no subject
What are you staring at? Creepy...
no subject
But he can't be all that mad about it, since Ross had them first... maybe a bit annoyed, but mostly curious. Add picks up his basket, crossing some of the distance between them.]
How did you do that?
no subject
How else?
