[The bigger the enemy, the more they flaunt their location to everyone. To try and be intimidating. The bigger the house, the bigger the bite, right? Those tend to be some of the most insecure head honchos.]

I can't say I understand what they're up to. I just got here, but there's always a reason for things like that. You might be better off not knowing about who you are for now. Might just save your life in the long run.

[It's hard not to agree with her line of thought there, since Davesprite's spine still feels a bit too much like it wants to file divorce papers with his body whenever he tries to think too hard into his past, but he still looks faintly unsettled.]

Yeah, you're probably right, but it's still kinda trippy to keep trying to reach back to all this empty space, act on instincts you don't even remember having been drilled into you until someone comes up on you all unexpected and suddenly you're reaching for a weapon that isn't there or a reflex with no basis. It's fucked up, if you want the abridged feeling.

[If the death visions of her shinki taught her anything is that the other shinki here might have been made to have somewhat fragile minds. At least there's a fail safe. If there wasn't there might not be any shinki at all. Now Lightning is curious as to what actually happens to shinki who find out about themselves.]

I can't imagine it, but a few of my friends can. One of them is here right now, and there's a huge gap between him and I because of that lack of a memory.

[This is the first time Davesprite's heard about gods already knowing a shinki, and he can't help a slight, sympathetic wince. Being on this end of it is hard, but being on the other end and not able to help is probably a whole universe away.]

Damn, I think you win the award for messed up shit to deal with here. I ran into a dude whose non-human species I recognised one time and we had like a weird moment, but he was a shinki too and I haven't seen him since, so you know. [He shrugs.]

[It's worse. The other is a god who is 500 years in her past and believes she is missing and inside of a crystal pillar protecting the world. At least the shinki thing would be kinder. She wouldn't have to find a way to explain how she knew him other than "Oh, you look like someone I know." Light shrugs at the first part of the answer.]

So he's either gone or avoiding you. Which would you prefer?

[It takes Davesprite a moment to respond to that, mostly to dodge straight-up admitting that he feels more than used to being avoided. Though he can't remember it, there's a certain pit of isolation in his stomach that hasn't been filled even by all the welcoming people here.]

I dunno. Doesn't make a hell of a difference in practice, and since remembering anything brings on about the shittiest feeling in the deepest pits of shit-related metaphors I can't really blame him if he wanted to avoid that whole garbage rave.

[He's not sure himself whether he'd want to seek him out further because of that.]

Looks like you've got two choices then.

[At least in her mind there's two choices. There's a third, but it'll be mentioned if he turns down the first two.]

Avoid him for the rest of your time here and keep having those feelings, or corner him and demand to know why he's avoiding you.

[That's a little more head-on than he was expecting the options to be, and though he looks as serious as anything, he's still a little disillusioned on the idea of forcing anyone to talk to him.]

Yeah, I think I'll skip the hunt down and demand answers action movie cliche, even if avoiding the shit out of someone is probably way more trouble than it's worth as well. Maybe we'll both get lucky and he's already gone.

Yeah, true enough. [He doesn't sound terribly enthusiastic about the prospect, and it's partially that which makes his mind start kicking the inside of his skull to bow out now. The last thing he wants to do is dump his issues on some random he just approached off-hand at what's supposed to be an enjoyable picnic.

Withdrawing a little and pushing his shades up a bit, he raises a hand.]

Anyway, I'm pretty sure we've both got better shit to do than talk nebulously missing persons. So you know, sweet hair, thanks for the advice, enjoy the picnic and all.
