Find another way to convince them. If you can't, then you'll have to leave them for now. Wasting time focusing on moving one person isn't going to help the others.

[It's a rather pragmatic way of looking at it, and Shun says it like it's nothing, but he never claimed not to be a pragmatist. And in this situation, where it's mostly precautionary for the moment anyway, it's a little less urgent.]

[He's totally forgotten that he doesn't believe there's a real threat for now.]

But what if they get in trouble? Didn't you say they'd be the most in danger?

I said leave them for now. If they're so stubborn that they'd keep resisting even in the face of an attack, then there wouldn't have been anything we could do for them in the first place.

[His tone isn't exactly dismissive, but Fubuki's getting a bit of a side-eye for apparently not paying attention. Maybe it's the flowers.]

Do you really want to waste your time trying to move one person out of danger when you could have moved ten in the same amount of time?

Well, this is all hypothetical, right? Ahaha...

Though, you make it sound so easy.

[Shun just tips his head slightly, his serious, bordering derisive look unchanging. It always seems strange to him, having to explain what's become basic facts of life to him to other people.]

In that kind of situation, you don't waste time thinking about the morality of what you're doing. You get it done, and you agonise about it later, or you might as well have never tried to help at all.

Like I said...that's not as easy as it sounds, you know?

[He rubs his eyes a little.]

Even if it makes sense...there are things you end up not being able to do. [Or rather...things that one can't pull off.]

It's been a long time since I could afford not being able to do something in a situation like that. [It's in the same kind of category as the idea of "giving up" has crept into over the few years of war, and the immediacy of Shun's response brings the kind of tone intended to leave little room for argument.]

Do you want to help, or do you want to stand here and argue the details of it?

[There's a pause as he considers saying something to the first statement, but he can't quite verbalize it—it's one thing to halfway imply that he wouldn't be able to do it, and another to just outright say, 'I don't think I'd be able to save those ten people'. Even hypothetically.]

[Instead...] Nothing's happened yet, right? We're just keeping an eye out?

[That's a much easier point to deal with, and Shun gives a short nod.] It's just precautionary. If nothing happens, then I'll keep an eye out on my own next time one of these things is held.

[Because it's going to be much harder for him to make a habit of trying to get comfy at these kinds of things than msot others.]

"Next time"... Come to think of it, you were like this the last time, too. Do you not like parties...?

I don't like large gatherings of people. There's too much to keep track of, and one person can't cover everything.

[It's not so bad if he's dueling in front of crowds, but if he's in the crowd, he generally isolates himself to a side tunnel or similar so he can avoid the overload.]

It's not like you have to take it on yourself...

[Then again, there doesn't seem to be that kind of security here.] Seems like...kind of an oversight...

Do you see anyone else here doing it? If I'm not going to involve myself any more than I have to, I might as well do the job nobody else will want.

[Read: They might as well leave the eye out to the paranoid person rather than ruining the good time of the people who are actually here for that. He's mostly just here for information and to possibly make more connections depending on who he meets.]

[He holds up his hands, placating.] That's not what I meant.

[Actually, that "taking the job nobody wants" sentiment is exactly the sort of thing he meant, but he's not here to judge.]

[... He's digging himself a deeper hole.] Anyway, how long have you been doing this?

That depends on what you mean. If you're asking how long I've been keeping an eye on things here, that's since I turned up. [He gives a general gesture out towards the picnic at large.] An hour or so.

[If Fubuki is after any deeper information than that, he'll have to say it straight. Even if a large and bustling picnic isn't exactly the kind of situation Shun talks about that in unprompted.]

An hour, huh? [That's less than he'd thought, which is kind of a relief.]

So, if it weren't a party, would you have come?

If I just said I don't like large gatherings, what makes you think I'd be less likely to come to something that wasn't a party?

[His tone is more than a little dry as he makes that point.]

Well, large gatherings don't have to be parties, right? [Although now that Shun mentions it, that...makes sense, huh.]

Let me rephrase that...what do you like to do for fun?

No, but parties are the worst kind of large gathering. [Lots of people in close proximity and in varying amounts of loudness and inebriation, whether it's from enjoyment or their substance of choice.

Shun gives Fubuki a bit of a harsh look at the follow-up question.] Why do you care?

[He doesn't have a better answer to the question of what he does for fun, honestly.]

[He placatingly holds up his hands at the harsh look.] No need to answer if you don't want to.

[Private people, man.] Isn't it a natural thing to ask? If someone isn't having fun at a party, I mean.

You're probably just going to complain more if I do. [He doesn't feel like an answer of "I don't really know" is going to pass here, and he has more important things to do than argue about it.]

It doesn't take someone like me to not be having fun at a party.
