Prayers? Like, answering prayers? Really? That sounds pretty heavy.

[Is he really going to have to do that? It sounds exciting on one hand, but on the other it's not really something he was expecting when he woke up here. He's heard people talking about just what's going on here, but he hasn't gotten any sort of in depth explanation because, frankly, he keeps getting distracted.]

[Sakon points excitedly at Hijikata as that dawns on him. That explains a lot! He points back at himself before continuing.]

I'm one of those other things! Whatever they were called! I guess that means I have a god somewhere, huh?

They should be around. You haven't met them yet?

Not yet! It's not like they tell us where to look. I guess he's supposed to find me, huh? So I'm hanging around here until he does! Well, I'm guessing it's a he. I feel like it's supposed to be a he. I don't look like the sort of guy who would be serving a girl, do I?

[He looks himself over, though really he has no idea what he's looking for. He's got swords and armor, that's for sure. And a snappy outfit. He hasn't looked in a mirror, but he's pretty sure he has a pretty cool haircut, too. Not that that really indicates anything.]

I think meeting some of the women around here is going to surprise you.

Yeah? I mean, I'm pretty flashy-looking, right? I guess some girls might look for that in a bodyguard, but most of them would be like "I don't think he looks too reliable. Who's he trying to show off for?", right? I mean, I don't know. I don't remember if girls liked me or not.

[Don't expect a whole lot of depth of thought on this particular matter.]

[Of course, he's always been particularly well-suited to the Strong, Silent Type approach.]

They do?! I thought they liked it when you chat them up? I mean, I feel like I thought that. I think I think that. It's really confusing when you don't remember what you remember!

And they like attention, but most of them do like being able to get a word in edgewise.

[He scratches his head and looks sheepish.]

Girls are pretty complicated, huh? Maybe I should just stick to guys.

It's not really all that complicated, but men aren't bad, either, if that's how your tastes run.

[Hijikata shrugs. Women are good, men are good, and he's never really had much trouble getting either.]
