Is that so... Osiris was an Egyptian god, as well. Maybe that's why I felt drawn to you.

I could tell you as much as I know, when you have time.
savioring: (♥ I didn't know)

[personal profile] savioring 2016-09-27 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
[So gods could be drawn to each other if they were the same religion? That's rather interesting.]

We have time now, don't we.

[Or perhaps it was just her. /shrug]

Indeed. Is there somewhere you'd like me to start?
savioring: (♦ I was your first taste)

[personal profile] savioring 2016-09-27 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
How did he start. As a god.

[Was he human once or always a god?]

[She inhales. Some of this is a little dicey because of conflicting reports that might be explained away as "the gods didn't write it down" or something]

Osiris -- most generally called a god of transitions but most strongly associated with death, afterlife and rebirth -- was the sun of the earth god Geb -- or perhaps the sun god Ra, depending what you'd heard. He was killed by his brother, Set -- god of storms, the desert, and warfare -- by being sealed in a box using lead, which was then cast into the Nile -- Egypt's great river. His wife, Isis, sought out his body, and found the sealed box embedded in a tree trunk. She managed to remove him and was capable of reviving him... but only temporarily.

Some months later she gave birth to their son, Horus. [Leaving out the detail about reviving him briefly so he could impregnate her, though.] While she raised him, Set went hunting and came across Osiris' body. He became angry -- after all, he thought he'd sealed away the brother he so hated in a box nobody would ever find or even open -- and tore his body into fourteen pieces. Isis gathered all the parts of his body save his genitalia -- which had been eaten by fish -- and bound them together for a proper burial. The other gods were impressed by her devotion. For what she did for her husband, they revived him as the god of the underworld.

[.... So. This is a story that makes Lightning very happy she's physically female in every way. That one part did not sound pleasant.

Also, she is hoping no one ever comes here as Isis. Light will have to check to see just what qualifies as edging on some very disturbing and possibly illegal subjects. Mainly also asking why Isis brought her husband back just to get pregnant...]

Glad I didn't have to play his whole life out. I'll stick to only having his name and position.

[Egyptian mythology was fucked up.]

Mm. Many gods have a lot of rather... horrific stories. In many, many ways.
savioring: (♪ To breathe)

[personal profile] savioring 2016-09-27 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Apparently. Does it get worse?]

So they suffer to make humans feel better? Sounds about right.

[personal profile] heptagram 2016-09-28 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
[I have to look into it more, but there's probably some other similarly messed up things.]

Either that, or they suffer because their fellow gods can be assholes sometimes. It's a bit of a case-by-case issue.
savioring: (♣ I didn't know that I could do)

[personal profile] savioring 2016-09-28 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
[~*Mythology*~]

Worse than being cut into pieces and having your genitals thrown into a river?
heptagram: (056 |)

[personal profile] heptagram 2016-09-28 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I guess at least Osiris was dead when his brother tore him apart and threw his penis away to be fed on by fish. [She shrugs.] Though, I suppose that's about as bad as the mythology of Egypt got. Other places on Earth had some other... uh, "interesting" stories.
savioring: (♪ Uhmmmmmmm....)

[personal profile] savioring 2016-09-28 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
[A small blessing, to be sure.] ... seriously?
heptagram: (074 |)

[personal profile] heptagram 2016-09-29 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly. In the Greek stories, Prometheus -- the creator of humanity -- as punishment for stealing fire to give it to the humans, was chained to a mountain for eternity, where, every day, he had his liver eaten by an eagle, which he regenerated by nighttime.

[She's leaving out some details, yes, but still.]
savioring: (♣ What maybe you once felt inside)

[personal profile] savioring 2016-09-29 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[... wow, the gods of her world were very kind compared to everyone. Yes, Etro spilled her blood to create life, but that was the worst part of it.]

And there's people who actually represent those gods here? Please tell me they don't act like their namesakes.
heptagram: (038 |)

[personal profile] heptagram 2016-09-30 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, certainly not, thankfully. The original gods may have been horrendous, but more recent ones...

Well, I guess it depends on their personality before they were brought here, really.
savioring: (♦ Was written in our past)

[personal profile] savioring 2016-09-30 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[That is a good point.]

Then whoever shows up here as Set will have a fight on their hands if they try and hack me to pieces.
heptagram: (058 |)

[personal profile] heptagram 2016-10-01 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you needn't worry about that. Not while I'm around.

[Nobody's going to be hacking people up among the other gods while she's around! That's very much Not Acceptable. So she'll vaporize them for trying. Because, uh, that's the most rational way to handle it. Or something.]
savioring: (♦ I wonder if our future)

[personal profile] savioring 2016-10-01 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)

Either way, it wouldn't do to have someone running around who would mutilate their fellow gods, now, would it?
savioring: (♫ Do it without you)

[personal profile] savioring 2016-10-01 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No. I'm very capable of defending myself. I won't let someone hack me to pieces for no reason other than a petty vendetta in the past.
heptagram: (060 |)

[personal profile] heptagram 2016-10-02 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
Very well.

[She smiles and nods anyway. At least Lightning hopefully realizes she can rely on Patchy?]
savioring: (♥ That I could do it without you)

[personal profile] savioring 2016-10-03 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Relying on someone is something she might just need in this place. Probably not for fighting.]

Any enemies of yours we should be worrying about?
heptagram: (069 |)

[personal profile] heptagram 2016-10-03 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
No. Thankfully. [The closest might be someone from home, but even then, she'd be more annoyed by them than they would by her.]
savioring: (♦ I was your first taste)

[personal profile] savioring 2016-10-04 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Lightning dreads the day one of hers show up. Especially Caius.] Then we're set. I believe one of my companions from back home is Egyptian as well.
heptagram: (074 |)

[personal profile] heptagram 2016-10-05 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
Mm? That's a quite interesting coincidence if so. I wonder if that's very common. Perhaps I should ask later.
