Do you know him? [ And moreover, know him to such an extent that he would refer to him in rather lukewarm terms? At least this much tells Jakob that he isn’t addressing any friend of Roxas’s, or he’d be extremely mortified. ]

Unfortunately, we haven't gotten along so well!

[There's an answer. The man does seem to get along well with his own shinki, Hakkai supposes. Still, it's discomfiting to realize that he has several of them, considering.]

Besides, if this is the case Jakob will feel far less guilty about being a dick to him. (Um…) He’s only got a finite amount of fucks to give about anyone else, after all. ]

So long as you’re causing him no harm, I’ve no reason to hold it against you.

[Harm to Hibari's already badly damaged capacity for trust, yes. Blight all around, of course. But no one died, so Hakkai will count it as minor.]

Really? I’m shocked. [ Because even he’s sure that he’s not the only one Hakkai has ever intimidated with a smile. ]

You wield your cheer like a blade, ready to smite unsuspecting foes. It gives me relief that Lord Roxas need ever witness such a sight again.

It’s this infernal scent. [ Not really, but he doesn’t bother to elaborate, nor does he attempt to do more than accept Hakkai’s words at face value. With some effort he tries to get up, but his legs give out quickly enough, and he falls back with a grunt. ]

But if poetry is what you desire, I suppose I can oblige you somehow. [ Whatever his issue with Roxas, he wouldn’t want to risk blighting his god by not making amends no matter what, after all. ]

[Hakkai lets out a long breath, almost a sigh. It's a bad idea, because then he breathes in again, and the scent of cherry blossoms almost chokes him.]

Why are you so determined to oblige? I really don't care that much.

It’s for my master, of course. [ And given how drunk he feels it’s hard not to be frank about it— ]

So don’t even think that I would be so preposterous as to make amends out of the goodness of my heart.

[ Jakob makes a little noise of outrage at that. Being drunk sucks—he can’t even properly follow Hakkai’s advice on even pretending to be friendly. ]

[Whereas Jakob is arrogant and easily offended, which, Hakkai thinks, is entertaining enough to poke at but swiftly loses its appeal.

Maybe he really will try to play nice with others? It likely will give a better impression of his god. Absently, Hakkai inquires:] Have you fought Hibari?

[ …Suddenly he’s never been more sober in his entire life. ]

[He almost stops there, but the train of thought is carrying him along, and so he continues absently:] ... Which of his shinki it was.

[ Even he has to wonder, since Roxas hadn’t been so forthcoming about a lot of things about himself. Jakob immediately stands up despite himself, staggering a little from that sudden onset of dizziness— ]

I think we’re done here. [ Hard not to think of the time he almost died the first day he got to the Far Shore, so he lets the dread of that push his legs forward and away from Hakkai as quickly as he can manage. He needs to process this shit with a clearer head anyway. ]

[Hakkai ducks his head in an absent half-nod, and makes no move to get up and follow Jakob. There's a sharp curiosity lingering in his glance after the other man... but still, he lets him go.]
