Not a chance! And a tree doesn't have the misfortune of listening to your dreck either, so even a cool breeze blowing its branches doesn't count.

Hey hey hey! You don't know that tree's not sentient! There's lots of sentient trees and things around! Maybe even the grass!

Actually I would know if that tree is sentient, and the grass too.

[He leans back in his chair.]

Comes with being a next level God.

[Or so he can brag, anyway. He was a next level human before so it made sense to him.]

[For the briefest of moments, Yato actually believes that bullshit. He looks awed and almost delighted.

But then reality crashes on him and he looks confused and upset instead.]

Nuh-uh, no way! You're a new god. I'm the one closer to becoming a god of fortune...

Oh, God of Fortune? The New Gods can become one of those, can they...?

[He's very pleased to find out about that.]

Gods can already do anything they want, but a God of Fortune... well that must be a very special sort of power, huh?

[He doesn't actually know if Yato will answer him, but he hopes that the weepy God will at least answer in his mind where Schuldig can hear it clearly instead of tear-filtered.]

[Actually, Yato has no idea if any of the newbies could become a god of fortune… but… he looks offended by the idea either way.]

It's a very special privilege! You have to work hard to have it!!

Lucky for me I can work hard when I want something.

[He laughs.]

Man, that'd be something... You've really Arrived if you get that, huh. No one can touch you after that, I bet. Or dare to try.

[Yato please stop behaving like this.]

[Schuldig grins, sure that he can read the guy's face without even needing to read his mind.]

I guess you'll be the first one I tell when I get there.

[He immediately bristles.]

[Wait, did this become like... a challenge or something? What the hell.]

[He immediately notices the challenge in the guy's voice.]

You trying to make a bet with me?

[Yato draws himself up to his full height and points a thumb at himself.]

You bet I am! I'll definitely get the God of Fortune title before you do!

That's the bet - but what's the prize for winning?

[He wants to bet an exchange of shinki, but he's not even sure at this point - on his very first day - that that's even possible.]

If someone's already got the top title of God of Fortune... what could possibly match that to rub the loser's face in it?

[...Yato tilts his head to one side.]

??? Bread? There's some really great bread at this one convenience store! And it's really affordable too~

The hell kind of bet is that?

[It starts to bother him that he can't even get deeper thoughts out of this guy.]

No, I'm talking something like real estate here in the Far Shore, like a bigger temple, or if that's not possible then some kind of... transfer to make that possible.

[Yato makes a face.]

Nope! No-can-do! I don't have anything like that!

[Maaaan, it's like this guys trying to rub it in. Yato pouts, looking sullen.]

[Schuldig thinks for a little while as he browses the minds of others in the area who have been here longer than he has. He gets the idea of a god's power being boosted by their number of followers without much difficulty, but he doubts that even a powerful telepath can just... force people to stop believing in one god and turn them to another without a LOT of work. Religion's one of those cultural pillars for a reason.]

Alright, we'll go with something simple then. Playground style.

[He gives a casual point to Yato while holding that same hand's elbow.]

Loser has to help the other do their prayers for a week.

[...well, that's something. Definitely something that he could get behind, because why wouldn't he want to take on more prayers? He's always willing to do more work.

He immediately holds out his hand.]

You've got a deal!

[Schuldig meanwhile is just plain lazy, so having someone else 'help' do his prayers seems like a far better idea.]

Done.

[And he shakes Yato's hand.]

Don't be a stranger, now. Gotta keep up on who's winning.

[Yato takes his hand back after the shake and looks like he's positively vibrating at the idea of winning this bet.]

Oh, definitely. I'll be keeping an eye on you. Gotta vet the competition~
