[Unfortunately for Shin-ah, Davesprite isn't really a textbook case either, and he holds up his hands like he's warding off any responsibility he has here before he even starts talking.]

Okay, just gonna put it on the table that I'm far from the best person to be asking about this when I'm pretty sure sprites don't even really need to eat. I mean, we can, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't really...work the same.

[He doesn't actually remember if it works the same, but when he's eaten here it's always felt slightly odd.]

[Sprite. Shin-ah hasn't ever heard of those before-- at least, he doesn't think he has. Are they all bright orange with wings and tails instead of legs?

More importantly, though, is the statement about sprite appetites. The disclaimer prompts a quiet observation from Shin-ah.]

...The dead shouldn't need to eat either.

[In an intentionally slow, almost exaggerated motion, Davesprite puts his hands together and points to Shin-ah, like he just stated something that wasn't completely obvious.]

That is a fact that should probably be true in any place where the afterlife makes any amount of sense, but whichever place that is, it sure as shit isn't this one.

[Okay, so they don't technically need to eat since they can't die again from not eating, but it helps.]

[He feels it again. That burning pit in the stomach and desire to retreat, that feeling that he's under a rebuke, and he doesn't understand why. Was it bad to make a point to the effect that maybe things didn't work the same for him here either? Why did he deserve to be mocked for that?

Shin-ah shrinks in on himself a little, having nothing to add to that observation. Most likely, his thoughts aren't really welcome anyway.]

[The motion is somewhat familiar to Davesprite, because he knows all about feeling like his thoughts aren't welcome. And though there's a reasonable chance he's somehow going to make this worse because that's just what happens to anything he lays hands on, he leans in a bit towards the other shinki, a slight frown on his face.]

Hey. If you're the type to keep your baggage to yourself then cool, I'm not gonna judge, but making it that obvious kinda means I can't not ask what's up.

[It's the most polite way he can think of to end the conversation and simply retreat.]

[Davesprite lowers his head a bit, because even as polite as the other's being, it's pretty obvious he's the one who fucked this up, and he's not going to keep the guy here any longer after that. So he backs himself away, spreading his wings a bit to cover the moment.]

Yeah. Yeah, okay. That's cool. I'll let you deal with whatever it is. [His tone is just a little hastier than it should be to be as chill as he likes to come off.]
