Allergies and a bit of science [closed]

[ Elfnein had decided to answer a call for allergy relief from a person who couldn’t get any sort of medical relief from their seasonal allergies. It would be a perfect way to gain more followers and help out without the need of fighting. ]

[ The small goddess had a bag filled with over the counter allergy medications and other old cures people seemed to swear by. There were also a few beakers and tools to mix, crush and create some hopefully not deadly cure; Elfnein was knowledgeable about everything related to the human body and the different ways to cure whatever disease might fall on someone. Though Elfnein’s method was a bit complex considering this could be solved by going right to the problem of the plants and other animals causing the issue. ]

It shouldn’t take long to create a cure

[ She had asked Maria to help with everything since it was going to be a lot of trial and error work. At the very least there was an adult making sure nothing bad was going to happen. ]

Vitamin C is used to help boost the body's immune system, ginger is useful for clearing stuffy noses. So those two are important along with slight amounts of vitamin D and other daily intake types to help main a working immune system to help fight back against allergies.

[ At the very least whoever takes this will get their daily vitamins no problem. ]

[Vitamin C is a bit of an obvious one, but the others are new to Maria, since she's usually heard of ginger in terms of fighting travel sickness. So she nods thoughtfully, committing the informaion to memory.]

I don't suppose it helps that it seems to be a seasonal allergy, either, so a one-time treatment wouldn't do much good.

It need to have an on-going effect, which is going to be tricky since it means we have to factor in half life for certain components.

[declamando]

Are there really things that degrade that quickly going into the mix? [Maria can't help but sound mildly concerned, given she mostly hears "half-life" in regards to radioactive materials.]

[alchemists]

Well for it to keep working in the long term the body needs a certain amount each day to counter the fading affects of certain parts of the medication.

[ Elfnein is trying to phrase this in an easy to understand way but it's kinda hard for her. ]

[Thankfully, that's still simple enough for Maria to understand, and she nods a little to indicate as such.]

So it's just what wears off quickly compared to the other ingredients. Sounds like it'd be a complicated thing to measure.

[alchemists]

Correct, it's hard to measure since the rate of it wearing off can differ but in this case using the normal standard for how the human body dissipates these items we can create something that will work for the general population.

[declamando]

I just hope they're not allergic to anything but pollen. It'd make your job a lot harder, I imagine.

[From the sound of things, there's more than enough messing around with ingredients happening without the issue of having to pull something out due to more allergies.]

[alchemists]

[ Elfnein starts mixing a few things and divides the mixture into different packets. The first test run should be done now, so it's time for testing. ]

If they were it would have been listed as well with the request?

[declamando]

[It went a little quicker than Maria was expecting, but she's interested in seeing the results here, so she's definitely not complaining there.]

I suppose if they were allergic to a common allergy cure, it might have been mentioned. Unless they were somehow expecting it to be cured another way. [Since Near Shore people probably have quite different concepts of gods.]

[alchemists]

I hope they're not allergic, if they are it will be hard for me to help.

[ That and hopefully if they are allergic to this they get rushed to a hospital. ]

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, I suppose. It doesn't seem like there's anything in here that would be that common an allergy.

[At least, Maria hopes that's the case. She didn't see anything go in that immediately made her think someone might be allergic to it, it was more of an afterthought.]

[alchemists]

Your power would be able to help this person if they do have an allergic reaction, or at least given current information it would delay things enough to get them to a hospital.

[declamando]

[That thought does seem to calm Maria a little, and she looks at her hand for a moment.] I suppose so. I really do need to find some time to practice with it - I still barely know what it can do.

[alchemists]

Maybe you could practice on any injured animals? I'm sure someone would put in a prayer for that and it would be killing two birds with one stone.

[declamando]

Maybe. I had a little bit of practice during the attack on Amaterasu's temple, but waiting for disasters only means I'll be unprepared for them. [Or at least not as well-prepared as she could have been if she'd trained beforehand.] Have you found your power yet, by the way?

[alchemists]

I forgot to tell you about my power.

I can use it to write anything onto any surface.

[ Elfnein writes her name in the air, the letters are glowing softly and are clear to read. Since it's nothing really out there she hasn't been showing it off much. ]

[declamando]

[That's an odd little power, and Maria watches with obvious interest, considering potential uses for it already.] It could be good for communicating in an emergency, though it'd have to be quick messages. But it seems appropriate for someone like you.

[Elfnein is a scientific, scholarly sort of person, so having a way of imparting that makes sense to Maria.]

[alchemists]

I think it's useful sharing ideas with people, I've been using it a lot for writing up lists and that sort of thing.

[declamando]

I have to admit I still lean more towards technology than pen and paper for that, but if it's been working for you, then that's already a good thing. [She smiles slightly before nodding towards the test batch.] Is that ready to test now?

[alchemists]

It's ready to test now, once ingested we just need to write down the results and any side effects/

[declamando]

Alright. Is there anything we need to be careful about with dosage, or is it not potent enough for that to be a problem?

[She and Elfnein are fairly different in size, after all, and that's not getting into the further details of what differences there might be between them.]

[alchemists]

It shouldn't be potent enough to cause any problem, I tried to make it for general use for everyone.

[declamando]

Then it should be fine. [With a reassuring smile, Maria gestures to the medication. Since it's crushed and combined out of a variety of mixtures, she's not sure herself how much it would be advisable to take, or what with.] If you're ready to prepare it, of course.

[alchemists]

[ Elfnein takes a beaker of water and mixes in the powder, of course she adds in a bit of flavoring to take away the bitter taste but all good medicine taste bad. It's how you know it works. ]

Now it just needs to be ingested via this liquid mix.
