The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

[A curious look.

Why are you eating it like that?

[ The question distracts her from a speech about how Everyone Is Friends. She holds up a snack. ] This one's a macaroon! It's got gummy stuff in the middle.

[ She breaks it in half to show him, then offers him one of the halves. Hibiki has gotten the idea that this kid does not know anything, and therefore, she can show him everything. ] Wanna split it?

Macaroon?

[French?

But it's nice to know you're helping him out, Hibiki. He peers at it before he gives a nod.]

Okay.

[kurukuruchan]

[ Then take this half! ] Here.

[ She shows him how to hold it so the gummy bit won't squirt out. ] If you lift a finger or two like this, you can be faaancy.

[ She isn't sure she wants to be faaaancy. But she has a few friends who are.

She wonders where they all went to. ]

Seems like a lot of work just to eat it.

[Seriously, what's the point of being fancy?

He looks at her.]

What's your name?

Shhhkknnnnn Hbbkkkhhh.

[ Sorry. Mouth full of macaroon. She swallows.

Second verse, same as the first! ] Shikyoin Hibiki! What's yours?

My name is Shaye.

[Hibiki, huh?]

[kurukuruchan]

That's a pretty name.

[ Licking jam off her fingers now. You are a pretty fun kid after all. You don't know anything, but even that is kinda neat, because sharing how amazing things are has turned out to feel really good! ]

[He's a child of war who's never really had a proper childhood. This is his only chance of getting that.]

[ But they're just standing here, and that is silly. Hibiki backs up until she's near one of the tables. ] You can sit down.

[ The food isn't going anywhere, and neither is she. Have fun being a kid! ]

[A blink before he goes to sit down.

Might as well enjoy while he's here, right? Even if the food did seem a little fancy for his tastes.]

[ Hibiki finishes her macaroon and pours him some tea. It's not a tea party without tea, right?

Then she sits down herself. ] Isn't this fun??

[A slow nod since he's still adjusting.

There's a quiet 'thank you' for the tea before he realizes something.]

Did you prepare this all yourself?

[kurukuruchan]

Everybody was gone, so...

[ She did. She does not normally have to. It made her very busy.

But it was so worth it. ]

Amazing.

[She could really grow up to be a patisserie one day if she desired.]

[kurukuruchan]

Some of the cookies were in a cupboard, though.

[ Some. A testament to the rest is in the kitchen for someone who is not Hibiki to clean up.

At least, someone who is not Hibiki, age 6. ]

[He actually looks a little curious at that.

It makes him wonder who else could possibly be here.

But he finishes a croissant, still looking thoughtful.]

[kurukuruchan]

[ Hibiki continues to enjoy her snacks, but since she never knows what her new friend is gonna do, she enjoys watching him. ]

You make that face a lot.

What face?

[Better yet, why are you watching him?]

[kurukuruchan]

This one.

[ She does her best impression of his thinky face.

Little does she know she's the unsprouted bud of a very good actress, so it's perfect. ]

That's...a pretty good impression.

[Seriously, she is good.]

[ The impression breaks when she's praised, because she can't stop a huge smile from spreading across her face. ]

You're surprising. It's fun.

A lot of people doesn't seem to think that way.
