008 | OVERFLOW
Thank you!

Good for them, they're replacing people as fast as they disappear. Guess even gods are replaceable here.
no subject
[What did he drink, seriously. Youji slumps into a sitting position. He's not usually the type to run his mouth while intoxicated, but.]
Who d'you know that got replaced like that?
[Since it's got you so worked up.]
no subject
There's been a few. Or haven't you paid any attention?
[ Konzen doesn't really mention anyone in particular, as it hits a little close to home. He's pretty sure, for example, that Elsa disappeared because of what happened after Goku's limiter was destroyed. He's seen the remnants of her temple. ]
no subject
[He rubs his head. Also, yeah, not paying attention. Didn't really care until Schuldig popped up in his brain. Because Schuldig could actually do some damage.]
no subject
[ It seems like most of them are pretty new arrivals, in any case. With the way things are going, people are arriving more and more every week. It's hard to care so much unless you happen to bump into folks you once knew before. ]
So how did you get pulled into here anyway? I'm guessing that you're a god.
[ And strangely enough, not all gods seem to have died before arriving, like Konzen and his brethren. ]
no subject
[Headache incoming.]
Things happened before that, but that-- that was the thing that really sticks out in my memory.
There may also have been explosions.
[...he just laughs, the slightest manic edge creeps in, but he hears it and kills it immediately. when he speaks again, it's level:]
What about you?
no subject
And what about you? the guy asks ever so casually. Konzen snorts. His story isn't that much better. He hasn't told anyone about it either, not even Tenpou. Especially not Tenpou. ]
The Dimension Gate separating heaven and earth slammed shut. While I was between it.
[ It's weirdly cathartic, just saying it out loud. ]
no subject
[Youji just shakes his head, not trusting himself to laugh. Not after the short burst of crazy, not with this... intoxication interfering with what self-control he has left at this point.]
Look, I know there's a stupid reason I was in that building. I can't speak for anyone else, but I was there for a particularly stupid reason.
[He'd raise a glass to Konzen if he had one. He has no real sympathy, no commiseration, but he can relate to not being able to see exactly how deep you are until it's too late. He'd tried to turn it around, but clearly...]
Last time I ruined my life, someone brought me on to do their dirty work as well. I'm beginning to wonder.
no subject
I thought I knew what's supposed to be on the other side.
[ Another life, rebirth, the cycle continues. Not like this, stuck in his former self, unable to move on. Repeating the same mistakes as before. ]
Are you ruining your life again? Or just figuring out new ways to be stupid?
[ He snorts softly. Maybe he's teasing. Or maybe he's talking about himself. For the first time, there's something almost funny about this whole thing. ]
no subject
[Dodging that question, hey, although he might be tempted to go back to it. It's rare he finds someone he genuinely enjoys talking seriously to.]
Not to armchair-psychoanalyze you, but it sounds like you were trying to get very far away from something. [Since, you know, different dimensions.]
I was actually trying to un-ruin it, but I think I was on-track to making it worse, if you can believe it.
no subject
If you ruined it to begin with, it must've been worth something before.
[ Konzen's own life -- centuries of it -- had been wasted. It's not like there was anything there to ruin. But then Goku came along and things changed. Life was different, brighter, louder, more vivid. What came after that might have ended his life abruptly, but would Konzen call it ruining? Probably not. ]
You could say I was trying go towards something, rather.
[ What he left behind, he doesn't regret. Except for the few moments of fleeting happiness. ]
no subject
[He doesn't usually get this philosophical unless he's depressed, drunk, or both.]
It must have been worth quite a lot, then. Running toward something is even harder than running away, I think.
no subject
I don't know if it was hard ... I was just trying to get to the other side.
[ He'd been so focused on getting Goku out of there, he couldn't stop. Not even when Kenren and Tenpou put up their own lives to save theirs. He didn't have time to stop and mourn for everything he lost. ]
What worth would you assign this new life?
no subject
[Back to the "running away" theory, then. But he's too messed up to really psychoanalyze. It's not as much fun as comparing stories.]
I haven't decided, yet. Worth usually... you need something to compare it to. I suppose I can let you know when I have an answer.
no subject
[ He doesn't really say it in any judgmental manner, though. It's not like Konzen made a lot of effort in his lifetime either, except at the very end. The kind of effort that matters, at least. ]
You wouldn't compare it to the life you had before the building fell on your head?
no subject
[He laughs, a bit too sharply for his own liking.]
Mm, maybe I don't want to be that depressed.
no subject
[ He wonders whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, if all you have are painful memories. But Konzen knows he'd rather suffer the bad, if he can hold on to the little good he has, too. He's not sure he'd want the same for Goku, though. ]
no subject
That's the crux of it. They tell you you're a god, well, you can try to simulate the life you had before, or go on and be, well, a god. Forget about all that mortality entails. The other way isn't much of a choice. No "if you want" involved.
But if you don't know the difference one way or the other... it's just going to go on in circles. Can't miss what you didn't know, so does it matter? Is there a wrong if the wrong can't be perceived by the wrong?
...What have I been drinking? This is all very circular.
no subject
This place, it's more like limbo. ]
Maybe that's what they want from us. To circle around. [ Like cattle, maybe. Herded about to do what they want them to...ignorant of the forces that keep them here. ]
no subject
Because that makes it sound like a trap.
[He shrugs.]
Heavenly conspiracy theories. How'd that even happen.
no subject
[ He pauses. At least, that's his sense of it. He spent a lot of his lifetime ignoring this sort of crap. ]
This place isn't any different.
no subject
[Youji does briefly wonder about that pause, but the cherry blossom fog in his brain... he can't hold on to any musings.]
Well, the... person who made that wish, I suppose.
no subject
[ It's an interesting comparison, though. Konzen is starting to feel a bit woozy too, which might be why he's being so damn philosophical with a perfect stranger. ]
no subject
[Did the gods create the humans in their own images, or the other way around? Even here, with its emphasis on human wishes, Youji can't be sure.]
If you want me to stop running my mouth, I will, and gladly. This is the sort of thing that gets people shot by my living-world employers.
no subject
Keep running your mouth. I could use the distraction, [ Konzen says with a snort. He doesn't really mind it, really. ]
What did you do for your living-world employers...?
