The Far Shore has been dealing with a lot of space-time pulsating through the past week or so and everything is culminating on the night of the 15th, even though the Heavens are preparing for an all-out Obon bash. They had planned to have the celebration on the 15th itself, but Amaterasu asked to postpone a day due to the horrible feeling that is permeating the Far Shore.

And it turns out she was right to postpone everything. In fact, it will have to be postponed another whole month at this rate...



Before

Late in the day on July 15th, the new batch of shinki will arrive to a Far Shore with a thick, tense atmosphere. All night on the 15th it feels like something is about to happen - and it's difficult to tell whether that something will be good or bad. Any attempts to contact the management of the Far Shore have fallen on deaf, slightly harried ears and so everyone is left to their own devices to try and figure out why things are so tense.

July 16

Just after midnight, an explosive shock wave rips through the Far Shore, bringing on the age changes with it. Even the spirits of the Far Shore seem to be affected - for example, the library goblins are either toddling around on wobbly legs or are dragging themselves from place to place and looking decrepit. There are a few gods and shinki that seem to have been exceptions from the change, though it is not clear why.

July 17

Another wave of energy comes in the early morning of the 17th. Fewer people are affected this time and it seems to alter those people's ages a second time. There is no rhyme or reason to who is being affected further. Several of the library goblins have just dropped dead from severe old age. Oops.

Aftermath

Late on the 17th brings about one final burst from the energy that has been plaguing the Far Shore. For a short moment, every new temple glows with a soft light, seeming to beckon to their owners. But the light is gone quickly and everyone will find themselves back to normal with complete memories of everything that happened during their age adventures. The goblins that died, though, are still very dead. Looks like the library will need to get some new help soon.

Lavi stares at it, amazed, before he notices what she's doing. He's very tempted to leave her to her own things, but feels his shoulders slump again.

Lavi walks up to her and goes to help her open the door.]

[kurukuruchan]

[ He's come around to the tea party idea so much that he's helping! Cool!

Hibiki grins. ] Thanks! Tug on three. One, two!

[ Let's get this door open and reveal

a really really overdone fancy interior. ]

[He tugs on the count of three, but then stops once he really takes a good look at it.

What in the name of the Heavens.]

This is your place?

[kurukuruchan]

Yeah! Isn't it nice? It's almost as big as back home.

[ ....hibiki?

hibiki....

hibiki! ]

[kurukuruchan]

[ That answers everything. She steps inside. ]

[ripplesoflosttime]

[...Prance?

He wonders if he should argue, but decides not to. It's not important, anyway, so he steps inside, too.]

[ Everything you imagined this place would be from the outside?

The inside is that, up to eleven. Hibiki doesn't seem to mind, or even really be awed. She heads down the main hall, practically skipping (and tracking a little bit of mud, but who cares, not her problem). ] This way, this way!

[Why does he seem to attract nobility?

He holds back a sigh and follows after her,]

Where exactly are we going?

[ Thank you, Hibiki. Past another double set of doors, and -

There's a room with lots of little tables, as well as fancy ottomans and poufs to sit on. Every table is heavily laden with treats, and at least one teapot.

Standing in the doorway, she gestures to the spread. ] Don't hold back. Have as muuuuuch as you want!

[He stands by the door, startled and taking in everything.

This...this is too fancy for him. He's not used to this sort of thing, and he wonders how a young girl like her is able to deal with it. Then again, Lavi guesses he's not surprised since she seems perfectly at ease in this kind of scenario.

Why is he here again?

Lavi just takes in the sight, unsure of how to actually proceed.]

[kurukuruchan]

[ Huh? Huh? He's not moving. Usually people hurry to their seats so they can have dessert. Hibiki is even sometimes the last person there. ]

Don't you eat sweets?

[ripplesoflosttime]

[Oh, right.

Forcing his gaze away from the sweets, Lavi genuinely looks confused.]

Not really. [Can't even remember the last time he's eaten sweets at all.]

[kurukuruchan]

Got it.

[ Maybe he doesn't like sugar! Hibiki loads up a plate with croissants and a few pieces of dark chocolate, so it will be more bitter and flavorful than sweet, and delivers it to him.

Here! A customized present! ]

Try this first.

[ Will this make him happy? She doesn't like it when he isn't happy. It's very strange. ]

[He blinks in surprise upon suddenly being handed a plate of dark chocolate and croissants.

It earns Hibiki a strange look from the tiny redhead before he picks up a piece of dark chocolate and carefully eats it. It's...not too sweet, not terribly bitter either, but it does taste good.]

[kurukuruchan]

[ Hibiki is eagerly watching for a reaction. Does he like it??? She's sure he'll like it. But it's still exciting to wait and find out. ]

It's good, huh?

[ripplesoflosttime]

[A nod.]

It's really good.

[Happy now?]

[kurukuruchan]

[ VERY. ] There's the tea if you get thirsty, too!

[ But with her guest managed, she goes to get herself a plate of stuff. Maybe if she eats more of the sweet desserts, he'll get interested in those, too.

So she's got macaroons and petit fours and little tiny fruit tarts. Whoever stocked the cupboards in this castle has really good taste!! ]

Is it just you in this big castle?

[He does wander closer, though, still munching on the croissant.

There's a bit of wonder at the pastries.]

Some other kids are gonna come later.

[ Munch munch. Hibiki is eating Very Colorful Food, Lavi. And enjoying it visibly. ]

So you invite everyone.

[A curious look.

Why are you eating it like that?

But:] What are you eating?

[kurukuruchan]

[ The question distracts her from a speech about how Everyone Is Friends. She holds up a snack. ] This one's a macaroon! It's got gummy stuff in the middle.

[ She breaks it in half to show him, then offers him one of the halves. Hibiki has gotten the idea that this kid does not know anything, and therefore, she can show him everything. ] Wanna split it?

Macaroon?

[French?

But it's nice to know you're helping him out, Hibiki. He peers at it before he gives a nod.]

Okay.

[kurukuruchan]

[ Then take this half! ] Here.

[ She shows him how to hold it so the gummy bit won't squirt out. ] If you lift a finger or two like this, you can be faaancy.

[ She isn't sure she wants to be faaaancy. But she has a few friends who are.

She wonders where they all went to. ]

Seems like a lot of work just to eat it.

[Seriously, what's the point of being fancy?
