Summary: The new Crazy Cat mascot keychains are sparking real passion in Tokyo's hot spots. Brawls have broken out over the extra-rare versions, and all of this angst is attracting ayakashi. The gods have been asked to step in before things get out of control.







Crossing Crisis

The Shibuya scramble crossing is always busy, but it's especially wild today. Ten new Crazy Cat vending machines have been installed at the mouth of the alley across from Shibuya Station's exit. Rumors are flying that these machines have extra Blue-Star Cats in them: the very rarest kind! A crowd of hundreds of excited fans have gathered, but the people at the front of the lines are buying lots of cats, and the mood is starting to grow sour as the people at the back of the lines begin to wonder if there will be any left by the time it's their turn.

This crowd needs crossing guards... or just someone who can snag some of those ultra-rare Cats and sell them to the back of the line for crazy cash. Everything a god does is righteous, after all.

Sunshine Struggle

Crazy Cat machines dot the Sunshine City complex in Ikebukuro. The machines here are attracting some particularly nasty ayakashi: jealous little purple creatures with too many legs that stoke buyers' envy and need for more and better collectibles. Under their influence, it's not just the Cats going fast. The local stores are selling out of everything cute on the shelves.

Worse, some of the ayakashi victims are turning to theft when they run out of pocket money. Time to exterminate those bugs before they start a new crime wave.

Taking Stock

Accident? Sabotage? No one's telling, but a delivery truck carrying boxes of new keychains to restock the machines blew a tire and overturned on a major street. Under the influence of those greedy little ayakashi, collectors are descending on the wreck to snag their favorites before the police show up.

The dazed driver doesn't know what to do, the crowd is starting to get violent, and those Cats do look amazingly cute. And appealing. And, for that matter, valuable.

Bad Kitty

The cat keychains are super cute! Even gods or shinki might be tempted to buy one and take it home, but taking these keychains back to the Far Shore will give away their hidden secret. It's not just human envy that's attracting ayakashi to the Crazy Cats. There are ayakashi hiding inside this batch of cute kitty dolls, and bringing them through a shrine to the Far Shore will force the hidden creatures out of their plushie prisons.

They're big, they're mad, and they're hungry. And the Heavens are full of souls that smell delicious.

The ayakashi escaping from Crazy Cat dolls on the Far Shore resemble gigantic (taller than a person at the shoulder) versions of the cute plushie cats, with very real and sharp teeth and claws. They run and attack at random once released from the dolls, so even gods and shinki who did not bring the toys back could be faced with a fight. The patrolling shinki will do their best to hold them back with borderlines, but they need help to rend these crazy cats before they do too much damage!

[A: Taking Stock]

[This entire cat craze is possibly the most ridiculous event Shun has witnessed in the five and a half months he's been here, but that's just a testament to the fact that something is very wrong about it. And considering the reaction of the crowd to that truck overturning, he really doesn't need to be told they're being compelled by something.

He manages to land on the overturned vehicle by leaping from a nearby rooftop, and immediately jumps into the crowd to start shoving or hurling people back the way they came. He's much gentler with any younger people under the influence, but older teenagers and adults he's fully ready to throw back onto the street if it means he's not going to have to deal with them again five minutes later. Anyone who gets particularly violent, he instead downs with a quick hit to whatever the most conveniently available pressure point happens to be.

It means he can't check on the driver while he's dealing with this, though, and if anyone comes to help, he'll instead nod towards the truck just behind him.]

I can handle this. Check on the driver.

[B: Bad Kitty]

[Shun doesn't take any of the keychains back himself, but once it becomes obvious ayakashi are behind the problem, he goes back to the Far Shore to find one of his shinki. However, he catches a flicker of movement from across the grounds almost as soon as he comes out of his garden, and rather than seek out what he actually came here for, he goes to track down what that is first.

The end result is him facing down one of the ayakashi well away from the help he was initially looking for, without any way to actually rend the thing. Slipping to one side with a hiss of annoyance as the big cat ayakashi swipes at him, he pulls out and uncaps his canteen of blessed water and throws some right at its face.]

Who the hell was stupid enough to bring these things back here? [Also, he could use some help between that complaining.]

[C: Catfight]

[After managing to get hold of Kotori, however careful he might have to be with her considering the size of these things, Shun heads back out to start really dealing with the cat ayakashi plague. He's very particular about the way he deals with them, since he can't afford to be waving Kotori's vessel form around too carelessly, weakening them first before rending them when he can get a good hit in to the head.

Even if he'll only be able to do this for so long with her, Shun's going to make the most of what he can, and so anyone else out dealing with the cat ayakashi stands a fair chance of having him show up. The vessel in his hand is a bird-styled war hammer with a crack down its length, and he's as precise about his movements with it as it's possible to be with a weapon like that, swinging it just sharply enough against the head of one of the cats to prompt the flash of white light that shreds its form.]

How many of these have you seen so far? [Asking whoever he's come across, because if there are still people bringing these keychains across Shores and increasing the number of ayakashi, he's going to personally track them down and kick their asses.]

[A cutting line slams into the ayakashi as Fubuki jumps down from his perch, shoving his phone back into his pocket with his other hand.]

Let's make this quick.

[He sends another line as he moves up to Shun. The sympathy he normally harbors unconsciously for ayakashi twinges, but he ignores it and doesn't even think to hesitate. He's in a bad mood.]

[ Hibiki watches the crazed shoppers from this cafe, sipping at her tea judgmentally. ] Where's the point in getting worked up over such a plaything?

[ ...If you're looking for help exterminating an ayakashi, well, here is an idol idle god. But she doesn't seem eager. ]

[ Anyone opening the door to Apollo's temple is going to get a nasty surprise: a veritable mountain of small slips of paper, falling out of the door right onto them, threatening to bowl them over. It seems the whole hallway had filled with the things. Each and every one of them has a variant of the same prayer written on it:

"Oh please, box office god-sama! Get me a Blue-Star Cat as my lucky charm for my show! Until I get one, I'm gonna talk like this for luck, nya!"

Anyone having opened the door and had these slips dumped on them will hear something faint inside: ]

[ And a faint trumpet fanfare. A pause, and: ]

Obviously something very important is happening. ]

[ If you choose to examine why that line isn't moving, check the front. The person currently occupying the prime real estate brought a Permes handbag to fill with cats.

All of which are blue and have stars on them.

Hibiki closes her eyes, putting in her next coin. She focuses very hard. She turns the dial for the machine.

Another blue cat with a star on it pops out. ]

[ A cat ayakashi (ayakitty?) is on the loose! And it's playing with some sort of ragged, worn-out, deflated toy. ]

[When he'd found out Hibiki was going to be out and about he hadn't expected to find this. He's giving a little shake of his head as he peers at her, running his fingers through his hair.]

Miss Hibiki, why are you collecting all of those cats?

[His tone is gently but there's just a small edge of concerned scolding there to it.]

Shouldn't you leave some for the others? Or are you going to give those out to special followers, perhaps?

[They are rather cute and if she's collecting so many for such s reason he could certainly get behind that.]

[A: Sunshine Struggle]

[Considering he can't exactly do anything like be a crossing guard without potentially alerting the entire Near Shore to the existence of complete what the fuckery, Davesprite is keeping an eye on the situation in Sunshine City. It's...not great, he can say that much for sure, but while he initially just spends his time there trying to block the greedy ayakashi from shoppers with borderlines, or occasionally even sniping them with an offensive one from above, he draws the line at people trying to steal to get their fix.

If he spots anyone doing that, he descends from his spot near the ceiling to tap their shoulder with a taloned finger. This generally ends in a quick turn and some brief screaming as the person drops their ill-gotten gains and runs off saying something about bird people, ghosts, or bird person ghosts. Picking up the dropped wallet or purse, Davesprite slips it back into the pocket of the person it was stolen from.]

Yeah, fuck you too, buddy, but if it works, it works.

[B: Bad Kitty]

[Okay, so Davesprite might have picked up one of the poor, common keychains that got dropped by someone and abandoned. And then he might have gone back to the Far Shore to see if he could find either Hajime or a better way of fending off the greedy ayakashi.

And he now may or may not be facing down one of the huge cat ayakashi. He's pulled his sword from his stomach, however little use it's going to be to him, and as it lunges for him with its jaw wide open, he holds the blade horizontally and catches it against the thing's mouth, pushing it back.]

For fuck's sake, wasn't Battle Royale 2: The Streets bad enough, now the dolls are hiding some demonic magical bullshit as well? [For once he's actually bothered enough to sound like he's asking a question.]

[There's only one person who can speak in such a dull tone, apparently 100% serious or at least with no change in his voice to hint at otherwise. While Chikusa doesn't care nearly as much when it comes to theft, he's still lingering around here watching things go batshit.]

[Glancing over to where Davesprite is being a good Samaritan, he quirks up an eyebrow.]

[She's not even here to help out, originally. She'd just wanted to wander some place familiar (and boy is it a bit strange and nostalgic to see the cities whole again and not like, on fire) and got caught up in these shenanigans instead.]

E-excuse me, s-sorry, um, please-- [She's jostled by the crowds, knocking into people, getting shoved by people yelling who think she's trying to cut in line-- and down she falls. Mikan hits the ground with a cry and immediately thinks that being on the ground is somehow a little safer.

Which is why she can be found crawling on hands and knees through the crowd, though it's possible she's the cause of people tripping and falling themselves once in a while.] Excuse me, excuse me... [Don't mind her, she's just trying to live her life.]

[Taking Stock: A]

[Where there's a crash, there's injured people! First aid kit in hand, Mikan is prowling the streets for anyone hurt in the crash. Anyone who's caught glimpses of her around the Heavens might be in for a surprise when she's being shockingly competent, moving from person to person and treating injuries.

She's quick and methodical, expression one of intense concentration as she works on people with an almost fever-like intensity.

A.1 Maybe you're one of the injured she's working on? Despite how much you might insist you're okay, Mikan gives you a stubborn look and grabs at your arm with a surprisingly strong grip] Please, sit down and let me look at you first! If there's nothing wrong, th-then there's nothing wrong! But, if there is something and it's ignored, it'll cause bigger complications down the road!

[A.2 Or maybe you're trying to help out too, only to have Mikan run up to you, waving you down for your attention. Once she has it, she doubles over, one hand resting on her knees as she catches her breath] E-excuse me! I-I'm sorry, I don't mean to b-bother you, but, um, well--

[She shakes her head and clenches her fist as she straightens. No now isn't the time for this!!] Pl-please, help me! I need to m-move this man to a safer place to examine him, b-but I can't carry him on my own! I-I'll do whatever you want in return, b-but please help!

[Taking Stock: B]

[Once again, she was only trying to help. She was just picking up random toys and using her nurse's apron as a makeshift holder when she's confronted by some nerds demanding kitties and accusing her of trying to steal fro the stash they've already claimed to be stealing from. She looks terrified and backs away a few steps, stammering apologies as the kitties fall from her apron and she accidentally steps on a few, managing to break a couple. The horrified shrieking of the otaku are honestly sort of impressive]

I-I'm sorry! Pl-please, don't be mad! I-I'll do anything! D-do you want me to strip? I'll st-strip, or eat bugs, or, u-um, y-you can cut my hair, or even punch me!

Please forgive me...! [She's definitely crying and Mikan's managed to take an awkward situation and make it even more so.]

[Forrest isn't much for fighting, so he tries to do his best in other ways. He can't use healing magic on the Near Shore without raising eyebrows, but he knows enough to bandage wounds. Unfortunately, he also can't stand the sight of blood. So between pushing himself too hard and coming a little too close to the red stuff, he's starting to feel faint. Thankfully, he finds himself falling into the arms of a certain young nurse.]

Ah... n-no, I'm all right, really. I'm just feeling a little faint...

Everything a god does is righteous, huh...?

"Hyaaaha ha ha ha!"

The residents of the Near Shore didn't quite process the source of the laughter, their mortal minds being ill-prepared to accept a talking book gripped firmly in the hands of a soulless shinki. Nor did they notice just how the throng of demons appeared among them, though the keen-eyed among the gods and shinki could spot the minions of the Overlord crashing down from the sky.

"As an Overlord, I'm required to cause suffering and despair among the weak and foolish," Zetta explained to literally no one. "This is a little small-time for me, but what the hell. SEIZE THE GOODS!"

Now the humans of the Near Shore took note, as the demon minions of the Overlord shoved and pushed their way through the crowd, mercilessly shouldering aside women and children alike. Up in front, an eager man held his hands below the dispensing chute, waiting for the machine to dispense weal or woe upon him -- but what it would be, he'd never know, for a demon girl reached straight over him, grabbed the machine, and hauled it into the air over her head. Next to her, the Overlord's army gave four more of then machines the same treatment.

To describe the scene that followed as a riot would be underselling it, as horrified and furious snarls and screams split the air and the humans around them surged forward, eager to take back the machines or take what was left before they could get theirs. Somehow, in the middle of the fray, the Overlord's minions managed to break free nonetheless, scrambling for the fringes of Shibuya with their ill-gotten gains, and the Overlord's shinki right behind them as Zetta chortled.

Bad Kitty

"I'm fighting cats?" Zetta said. Before him, a pair of warriors faced the ayakashi with sword and axe drawn, while to his side spellcaster minions readied their staves, and a healer stood in the rear ready to mend any wounds the minions endured. "I really have started back at the beginning. To think I, the most badass freaking Overlord in the entire cosmos, have to battle weak spirits and felines." The plaintive, sad tone in Zetta's voice almost had the power to move hearts -- but not repel ayakashi. Without the Overlord's guidance, his minions hadn't so much as twitched while one of the felines slipped right past his minions to leap at the book its claws outstretched.

Zetta, of course, had no power to defend. Blight spread across the book's cover where the claws scratched it, swirling around all the minions abruptly as well.

"Nyaaaaaargh!" Zetta exclaimed, as the minions leaped into a swirling dogpile of dust and blows that looked straight out of Looney Tunes by the way of sprite animation. A moment later, the book spun out of the fray to skid on the ground, cast out of the battle that still raged in its absence.

"Damn..."

This day has been already something, but when Caster finally arrived on the Near Shore he expected the usual- moderate peace, and definitely not quiet. Instead, what he got was pure, unadulterated mayhem.

"Are those-" Demons? Demons falling from the sky? He jumped to a higher ground to locate the source of the mayhem, and few flying vending machines later he located the shinki carrying a familiar looking book.

Moments later he landed on the vending machine, carried by demon closest to Zetta.

"You bastard, you really did it!" he laughed, very comfortable on his new spot.

[Really, it's too easy.]

[As a ninja, Edge is an accomplished thief as well; stealing the opponent's resources to turn against them is a time-honored battle technique. But here he barely has to try, because no one notices the man breezing past them as they crowd around the machines. Those who take more than their fair share, he gently lifts charms from -- not all of them, just enough to even the score and give everyone a shot. Then, with a quick glance over them to appraise them, he flicks them out into the crowd with skilled aim and good judgment. Valuable charms drop practically into the hands of children clambering to spend their few coins, while good-natured collectors who suffered for waiting their turn like decent people find a pair coming towards them just in time to grab them.]

[It's good work, and he's feeling pleased.]

Oh -- hell!

[In over his head, Edge stares across one of his blades against a mass of swarming ayakashi. He'd started out so simple with manageable tasks, driving off one or two here or there, with sword and shuriken to send them running.]

[And then he'd chased one down an alley, making sure the damn thing fled, only to find this host waiting for him. Had they planned it, or had it just been ill fortune on his part?]

[Either way, this is bad.]

[Sitting atop one of the gacha machines, ignored by regular humans, Wendy sits and swings her legs. A small grin is on her face, and she rests her chin in her hands.]

Taking Stock

[The damaged axles of the truck bend slightly and the suspension flexes that much more as Dust lands atop it, one hand dropped down to support himself as he peers over the side.]

That's not good. Hey! [He calls out to the nearest resident of the Far Shore he can see as he straightens up, drawing his sword in one smooth motion.] I'll get the charms out of the way -- you try to break up the crowd so no one goes stealing all this!

[His part is easy -- Dust flings his hand forward, as his sword blurs into a circle so far the weapon only shows as a distortion of the sights behind it. The sudden vortex is enough to suck the cat charms off the ground and into the whirling blade. The crowd has no idea how to react to this -- which is hopefully a reaction his new ally can capitalize on to break them up.]

[As usual, Dust has gotten into this fight alone.]

[As usual, this means nothing to him.]

[Dust vaults over a group of ayakashi, then slashes into them before they can even turn to face him. His movements are graceful and fluid, almost dancelike -- he spins his weapons around his twisting body to put power and length into his strikes, reversing his grip so smoothly his sword seemed bolted to his hand. Before the ayakashi can lash out at him, he dives into a roll that carries him past them to the other side of the pack once more.]

[He can't kill them. He can't win this fight. All he can do is stop them from hurting anyone else -- to hold them until someone else comes to help, or until he can't hold them any more.]

[It didn't matter. This was what he was made for.]

[Garry has already been trying to break things up as best as he's been able to, but it's tough. He's only one guy, with his own advantage being his height that helps a little bit in seeing over the crowd and pushing his way through. However, he only has two hands, and it's been rough with all the charms making it worse...]

[So, while he jumps in surprise at the sound of the truck bending at Dust's landing, Garry recovers soon enough.]

Ah- right!

[The shock from the strange occurrence definitely helps, at least. This way, Garry is able to jerk one person away from the fight they were a split second away from starting, and he can toss out a borderline to go straight between another fighting pair that stopped their fists in surprise.]

How long will you be able to keep that up?

Sunshine Struggle: a little bit comes bleeding through

[Oscar for the life of him can't really understand the fixation with 'cute' things. To him, it's something you mostly get over once you've matured. (He does make an exception for cute real animals, though. Because they are too good to be people in his eyes.) Those cursed purple creatures have not only made the crowds obsessed with the cats, but also similar 'cute merchandise.

He decides to 'capture' the little Ayakashi by putting shadow 'traps' for them to walk into and destroys them with a strong handheld flashlight. But they are growing in number... time for plan b: his own shadow turns large and formless, attempting to catch the critters like a 'net'. Granted, he might need someone to 'herd' them to the shadow and be quick enough to move when it closes.]

Bad Kitty: my final bellyache

[When he finds the person that sneaked in that damn cat keychain, he doesn't care if they are man, woman, child, God or Shinki. He is going to chew them the hell out for it, because now there's a gigantic plush cat wrecking havoc in The Far Shore.

But Oscar remains ever so diligent, being one of the Shinki to hold them back with borderlines but that thing is huge and there are only so many capable Shinki.]

She's also holding an overflowing bag full of nothing but the very rarest keychains, so clearly she's taking the threat these ayakashi - and the hobby they're infecting - very seriously. ]

a. Claws for alarm

[ Fads are nothing new. If this world didn't have any, Yukio would have found it surprising. Gachapon fads are even more common. He's seen them come and go -- cute little tchotchkes the girls at his school would go crazy over, trading and gifting them to complete their collections.

This one, however, rubbed him the wrong way. Most fads did come with a measure of fanaticism but the way everyone was going crazy about these, it was almost suspiciously rabid. Which is why he's seen off a distance from some gachapon machines which are being crowded around. The crowd itself seems pretty rough, pushing and shoving to get to the machines. ]

[ That's called out to anyone who manages to pass by, at least anyone the crowd doesn't notice. He figures that would make them a Far Shore resident. But he motions to the crowd with a jerk of his head. ]

Have you seen that going on anywhere else?

b. The Far Shore - Utter catastrophe

You should have been more careful!

[ Should you wander the Far Shore, whether to take a break or to patrol, chancing upon Satan's Flaming Iron Cathedral of Doom will lead to the oddest sight: Yukio fighting off what seem to be a hoard of giant cat ayakashi with a fancy looking revolver -- and seemingly arguing with no one in particular. ]

If you were less impulsive, you might have noticed -- TAKUMA, WHAT THE HELL?!

[ The second outburst happens when the god fires a few shots at one of the ayakashi only to bean the creature between the eyes with a gachapon egg. ]

I need you to focus! They're going to overrun the entire temple at this rate!

[ One of the cats has managed to rampage through the temple's main hall, causing a giant hole through one wall and the front doors practically torn off their hinges.

He pulls back, retreating toward the temple's front gates to regroup. ]

...if we don't deal with these things, we're going to have to live on the street for a while.

[ She thought it was just another dumb fad. But the more she looked at the things, the more drawn to them she was. They were just so. Stinkin. Cute. How could she resist?

The minute she does spot someone though, she's aiming to hurry toward them with a bag full of gachapon eggs. There's enough to consider she might have been able to clean out a machine on her own. ]

Hey! There's a pale yellow one with green eyes I absolutely MUST have. Trade ya if you have it!

[ Looks like someone's bitten by the bug... or maybe has a taste for small cute things. But go figure. It's Magari. ]

[ Or maybe you had one of the cats yourself. Maybe there's one nearby. Either way, you'd better move your head because a dart is zipping toward it to hit it square between the eyes and knock it down to the ground.

Were you to look in the direction of the dart, you'll find Magari a good distance off, another set of darts between her fingers as she approaches. ]

[ She's approaching the toy though and promptly stomps on it with her foot. ]

[ It takes a few more stomps before a wispy dark shadow -- a rather bedraggled looking ayakashi -- manages to pull itself out of the toy and attempts to scramble away. ]

[ Caster reaches the Near Shore a bit late, by the time the craziness already settled in and reaches its peak. It's incredibly fascinating to everything go so insane. He's not just people-watching, but also low-key investigating, and he might pocket a keychain or two if there is an occasion to do it. ]

[After a long, hard day of eliminating the ayakashi and keeping chaos from reigning too hard on the Near Shore, and Yuna has decided to pick up a pair of the cute kitty plushies as a reward for herself and her shinki for all the hard work...!

Of course, upon bringing them home, the ayakashi inside are set free, and the pair have to spring right back into action.]

[She is... not exactly cutting in line for the machines, but she is bypassing it entirely in the hopes of getting an up close look at what all the hubbub among the Near Shore residents is all about. The frustrated patron at the front of the line, after checking their prize, is stopping for a moment to dig up some more change for another shot, and while they're not paying attention, Soleil drops her own spot of cash in for a shot.

Being basically invisible sure does have its own perks for situations like this.]

[It's be a shame to have to eliminate them so often if that were true. As the cats tear their way through the heavens, Soleil can be found with her shinki (Berserker, her soulless shinki sword, or perhaps even both), attempting to fend off and cut down any of the ayakashi they run across.]

Now if only they'd stop darting around so much. [There's so much running around because of the nature of these ayakashi in particular, she can't help but wonder if there's something that'd attract a bunch into one spot. Would that even be a wise idea?? It's gotta be easier than this!]

[Keith, having still been neither reassigned by the heavens nor choosing a new god on his own, has absolutely no plans on going to the Near Shore on his own. Even if it weren't a tricky process for an unmatched shinki, there's also the fact that it would make him an extra appealing snack for any ayakashi that might be wandering around, and with no way to cast a borderline without a god, well... that's way too much trouble to deal with. Helping's good and all, but he'd rather not bring about his own demise (re-demise? Double death?) on the Near Shore if he can help it.

So, naturally, once the ayakashi start filling up the Far Shore, he finds himself to be something of a sitting duck.]

Where did all of these things even come from??

[He is yelling to no one in particular, having been fortunate enough to get shelter from the monstrous cats in a much larger, mechanical cat of his own, which Far Shore residents are likely to see hovering above the ayakashi, staying nicely outside of their reach.

But, oh boy, is he ever attracting a lot of them. It's like some kind of toy! A toy with a snack inside! Amazing! Someone might want to help him out here!]

[That sure does seem to be the mood of a white owl that's coasting through the air, only to suddenly run into a giant metal CAT, of all things, in its air space. Mukurou can't live with this insult to his domain.]

[Cardia has decided to take an uncharacteristically direct approach to this problem. She can't stop what's happening, but maybe she can slow it down? At any rate, she's taking advantage of the tendency for people to overlook the denizens of the Far Shore and slipping quietly through the crowds in front of the capsule machines. She seems to just be passing by, but in her wake the buying frenzy is suddenly halted.

The machines have stopped working. Store owners are fielding a sudden barrage of complaints, making calls to try to get them fixed, and just baffled as to how the coin slots seem to have... melted? Cardia pauses to watch for just a moment, then moves on to the next batch.]

[The next batch unfortunately comes with a different problem. These purple bugs lurking around and adding fuel to an already raging fire. Something needs to be done.]

I wonder if I could draw them away...

[ Nicolas has been busy collecting all the cat keychains he can lay his hands on. Why? Because if there's one thing he knows about his god is that he loves cats and Nicolas is determined to give Noctis all the cat keychains like the good shinki he is. So far, he's got a little over 20 keychains stuffed in the various pockets of his military pants. He's running out of room though and has even placed three of them on the chain that carries his mercenary dog tags. And so, when Nicolas pulls at the end of your shirt to get your attention that's the sight that greets you as the mute shinki points to a kitty keychain you may have and silently offers you money - Where did he get that? He didn't steal it... nope, not him! -- in exchange for the cat keychain he spotted on your person. ]

[ So if they don't actually alert people to their presence, they go by unnoticed, right? Which means that when a person at the front of a line has bought a whole horde of cats seems to lose a few, they're wondering who stole their cats, and accuses the person next in line. Which of course is vehemently denied because they didn't steal the cats. Obi did that. And it was really easy, too.

Leaving behind that fight that just might escalate, he takes a leap and lands on the other side of that vending machine and beside the next line, only to pilfer some cats there too. And then he moves on again.

At this rate he'll probably cause people in every line to fight, but eh, whatever, right? At least Obi seems to be enjoying himself. ]

[ Well this is a mess. That's what you get for using such strange vehicles instead of reliable things like horse drawn carriages. Or something.

Obi sits on top of the overturned truck, watching the chaos with amusement. His eyes catch every little purple ayakashi, but right now he doesn't seem to be interested in taking care of them. He looks more like a cat enjoying itself at the expense of other people, as cats are prone to do. ]

[ Obi brought one back because it was a cute black cat with the same colored eyes as him and, well. So sure, he's a bit responsible for this one ayakashi breaking loose. Which means that he needs to help take care of it but what can one shinki do without a god? He'd have to need to find either Ronald, or another one to name him. Not that he's fond of the idea but he's also not that loyal to his god.

For now, he's doing a pretty good job at distracting the ayakashi by leaps and knives and borderlines and a whole lot of tricky and taunting agility and skill.

A little help would be appreciated though. ]

[ He wanted a few of the cats too, to be honest. But he'll wait a couple days, see if the initial excitement dies down....even if that causes a risk of there not being any cats left. He's patient, anyway, and has spent most of his time in the Near Shore recently. ]

[ While D2 has been working on bullets that contain holy water, it's a bit tricky. He has done some test runs at the back of the temple, to see if they do as intended--but he has yet to do a field test on actual ayakashi. While he has his customary water guns with him, and extra bottles of holy water, he also has loaded a gun with altered bullets.

Technically, one should not bring a gun into a crowd, but if there's something he knows, it's how to hit exactly what he wants to hit. Basically, his aim is perfect. And he needs to kill some ayakashi---though he can't actually properly do that without Forrest.

He can, at least, hurt them and make them hiss off to lick the burns.

[ It's a fact that Roy doesn't have any right to judge people who steal. After all, he's a bank and train robber. And he recently stole some sort of strange coal...thing? from a hospital for Chikusa after Ken got poisoned, too. So, yeah, he can't judge or confront people who are stealing.

One thing he can do though? Steal the things from the thieves and put them right back on the shelves. But only in the small shops where they need the money for things to go around, not in the big shops. ]

[Shibuya is in desperate need of a crossing guard and Zelda... is not that person, actually. Nobility she might be, but she's practically a country girl when faced with the throngs of people crowded around the alleyway hosting the vending machines. She's almost certain there are more people crowded into this street crossing than there are in all of Hyrule! So rather than... helping, really, she's just staring in awe at the crowds. Eventually, someone unsatisfied with their prize passes by, mumbling something about "stupid gachas" as they toss their keychain over their shoulder with disdain. Zelda manages to catch the thing before it hits the ground, but...]

All this fuss for these little things?

[Weird gacha fads she might not understand, but monsters are a thing she's very well acquainted with. From a perch on a balcony of one of the nearby buildings (she's had quite enough with dodging crowds after Shibuya, thanks), she observes the barely controlled chaos below with narrowed eyes.]

Our targets are clear, but the question is how to deal with them...

[If only the crowds were a little thinner... she can't exactly jump down there swinging with it like this.]

[So you know the Western District? The dusty one with all the new gods and the streets and temples that are never in the same place twice? That one?

Yeah, the white-robed shinki haven't been patrolling that one.

If you happen to be picking up their slack, then perhaps you'll see one Hylian princess running for her goddess-damned life, a giant purple cat bounding after her. And she's fast, but four giant legs can cover ground so much faster than two. The cat closes in, batting at her sideways like she's some kind of toy, and she goes rolling down the dusty dirt path. Black, viscous ichor sticks to her where its paw struck her, and it stings, but adrenaline keeps her focus where the pain would otherwise take it.

GOT NYA~! the creature cheers, and in the moment between that and it closing in to tear out her throat, she remembers something that had been lost in the rush of instinct.

She doesn't have to hide who she is here.

She lifts her hand, and light erupts from it, blinding, bright and brilliant. The ayakashi reels, hissing from the blast, and in any other place, surely it would have been purified in an instant from such a holy burst, but here it's no replacement for a shinki. The cat recovers, and she blasts it again, forcing it back once more.

Break the stalemate? She probably won't be able to keep this up forever. Especially with that blight prickling at her skin.]

[The sun descends from the sky.]

[Well. Perhaps not. But Celestia's swooping descent is an easy thing to mistake for a star falling from heaven, wreathed in golden light and summer warmth as she is. In that instant, she is as the god whose name she possesses, and all darkness in the world must flee before her.]

Rend.

[A small ring curled around the base of her horn gleams silver to her gold, in that moment before all the magic of an alicorn seems to set the world balanced on the razor's edge between one moment and the next. The spell that lances out from her horn is almost anticlimactic, a beam of light no wider than a human's little finger, but the moment it touches the ayakashi, the cat dissolves as if a divine hand had simply brushed it away from reality.]

[There's something about this situation that is familiar somehow. Not the cats of course, but the madness and energy that's filling the streets in and around Sunshine. Celty keeps hearing familiar voices, or she thinks she does, but every time she looks she only catches glimpses of a blue hoodie or a black dress running from shop to shop with an ever growing collection of collectibles.

Before she's able to do anything about it though she finds herself caught in a crush of people, hands grabbing at her helmet as she tries to swat them away.]

'It's a Crazy Cat one, isn't it!'

'I saw it first!'

[She pushes and carefully uses her shadows to try to push the people off of her but they have a hunger in their eyes for all things cat shaped. It's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.]

[With her motorcycle, Celty managed to beat most of the crowds to the scene of the crash, using the compact size and her speed and shadows to cut a few shortcuts. The helmeted Shinki stands between a part of the crowd and the back of the truck, trying to wave people off but she's starting to look overwhelmed.

The one thing the crowds are doing in her favor is make it harder for the police to arrive...and there's something about the sirens that's sending a chill up her spine.]

[Okay, THIS one is her fault.

After such a chaotic day she thought there was no harm in taking a discarded yellow cat as a personal little keepsake. It was one of the commons after all.

Except now she's chasing after the cat creature as it hops onto her bike and tries to ride off. She throws out her shadows to try to snare it but on her own she make not be able to capture it before it rides off!</small.]

[There's a faint thud from the top of the truck as Shun lands neatly on it, then leaps down onto the road to kick some unlucky guy getting a little too close to the door in the face.]

Won't be much longer until the sirens get here. Then someone else can deal with this. [This is a side affair, after all, not the source of the problem. All it's doing is distracting them from what they actually need to be doing.]

[Amidst the chaos of ravenous collectors descending upon the hapless truck and its cargo is, of course, the god of chaos. Add is here to do what he does best, which is not help at all. Using his dynamos to infiltrate the crowd he manages to pull out a couple of the keychains from a safe distance, dropping one of the tiny cat plushies into his hand. He turns it around curiously.

It's definitely cute, he can't deny that... but isn't this reaction a bit excessive?]

Something like this isn't even an original idea... what a stupid thing to obsess over.

[B - Bad Kitty]

[... but despite his scoffing, of course Add brings some of the keychains home. They're for research, okay?! It's not because he likes cute cat trinkets! It's purely for research!!

Not that he gets a chance to be defensive about it since the keychains turn into giant ayakashi the moment he crosses over to the Far Shore. Caught off-guard by the sudden transformation, he doesn't get a lot of time to react before the creature is lifting a giant paw at him with a bellowing (yet still weirdly cute?) meow.]

Dynamo! [His machines whir into formation, a bright electric field spreading out from Add's feet and locking the ayakashi in place, its claws frozen in the air uncomfortably close to his head. The beast starts to growl, but it's otherwise completely immobilized, unable to do more than glare and growl at him in frustration.

For now, at least. Add grits his teeth, straining to keep the Void Field open while he wracks his brain for a solution. He can't move or attack without dropping the field, but he can't keep it up forever either. Would he have enough time to soften the blow with a barrier before those claws reach him? It doesn't seem very likely. And it would take a few seconds to activate Seal of Time, so dying isn't an option right now...

This is bad. He hisses through his teeth, turning his head slowly to try and spot someone who might be able to help. As much as he hates relying on others, he's not in a situation where he can be picky.]

[Cardia had just returned to the Far Shore after her own excursion to help out with the cat related crisis when the roar of an angry ayakashi fills the air.

It takes only a few minutes to find the source of the sound, and she's quick enough to realize that he's holding it immobile somehow. Beating it won't be possible without a shinki, but she can at least help him slow it down. She's been working on controlling her chains, and this seems like a good chance to test herself.]

[Chains shoot from the ground, wrapping around the ayakashi. Hopefully between the two of them they can hold it long enough for one of them to think of something...]

[All of this for the key-chains. Everyone is so excited! Although maybe a little...moody? That's the feeling she gets. The key chains are cute but it's definitely no reason to get angry.]

Are items like this usually so popular? [That so many people show up for them. She hopes no one fights or gets discouraged if they can't get one. The lines are so long.] I know! What if we cheer people up as they wait! Like... maybe sing!

[That boy just stole a bunch of items off the convenience store shelf! Shocked, she can barely believe her eyes. Why would a person steal like that when they know it's wrong!? Taking off after the child she sprints as fast as she can. If he does things like this, won't it create more negative energy? She has to help him realize that this kind of thing isn't okay!]

[Kobato is hardly materialistic. In fact, she rarely asks for anything. But she isn't against small gifts or taking what is given to her. When a spare cat collectible comes into her possession and she's assured it's fine to take, she's happy to give it a home.

Well... she would have been if things hadn't turned out like this. She takes a step backwards as the giant cat advances on her, before she comes up against a tree. Wide-eyed, she tries to make a borderline. It's stronger than when she first arrived the other day but it's no where near purrfected yet and not strong enough to keep the feline at bay for long. She swallows thickly.]

[Thankfully, her keeping the ayakashi distracted means someone else can come up behind it and give it what for. It's a little hard to see who it is past the ayakashi until a cracked war hammer swings precisely into the side of the thing's head and makes it disintegrate into white light, but the rend reveals Shun to be the one standing behind it.

He doesn't look terribly impressed seeing Kobato out here, though.]

You shouldn't be in the middle of all this without your god if you can't borderline well enough to defend yourself.

A) Crossing Crisis #1

[Never let a person with extreme luck near a gacha.

Komaeda has tried his hand at the machines; knowing his luck, he'd guessed that he'd get valuable cats, and perhaps use them to draw away some of the crowd. Not to mention that if he gifts them to people who'd given in to despair that they'd never get one, he's creating hope, right?

And Komaeda's luck has indeed come through, at least in the current moment. Oh, he didn't just get one rare cat, or even a couple. He has no less than four Blue-Star Cats in hand(and he'd only even played three times; one of the capsules unexpectedly had two in the same capsule). The crowd around him, while perhaps not paying attention to Komaeda in particular as a denizen of the Far Shore, is acutely aware of the cats, and the obscene luck of his acquiring them, and they're going berserk. Komaeda hadn't quite planned for this eventuality, and considering he's frail and sickly in any case, there's a rather bewildered god in the middle of a crush of grasping, clawing hands, holding his charms out of reach and looking as though he might get trampled.

Realistically, he can teleport away if things get too hairy and he knows it, but he's a bit reluctant to do so with so much attention on him and the crowd in the state it's in. He's afraid he may start a riot that way...]


B) Crossing Crisis #2

[Never let a person with extreme luck near a gacha.

Having escaped his previous predicament, and never being one to be overly concerned with his own well-being, Komaeda's gone back for another try at the machines. This time, though, his luck seems to have swung the other way; when he uses a machine, it jams. The crowd behind him is...well, 'irate' would be an understatement. The line for his machine is long, and people in the lines for the working machines aren't willing to let the unfortunates behind Komaeda cut in front of them. The people closest to the front of the line and Komaeda are able to perceive him enough to be yelling at him, while those further back in the line are taking their frustrations out on each other, and the people in line for the working machines.

There is a subtle trend of Komaeda making everything worse here.

A rather frazzled Komaeda has managed to push his way out of the crowd and get enough distance for people to forget about him, at least, but he's pale, breathless, and looks fairly distressed. You might want to check to make sure he's not going to keel over...or make another disastrous attempt to try to help.]


C) Wildcard

[Perhaps it's due to all the bad luck from earlier in the day, but Komaeda brought home one of the lucky Blue-Star Cats and it was not actually possessed by an ayakashi. (He checked, after news of the trend of people bringing the keychains to their temples started getting around. It's not hard to notice when giant cat ayakashi keep running rampant.) He feels he's done enough damage for one day, though - and has probably been told so by more than one person - and so he's keeping to himself, idly fiddling with his own keychain.

Well, keeping to himself might be a touch of an overstatement; he can be found in various places across the Far Shore, often near wherever the newest cat ayakashi appears as he observes things from a distance. With the trend of his luck today, he can hardly risk helping anyone, but he's at least curious enough to want to observe.]

[He's just here to get food for the most part, and watch the shitshow as it unfolds... Although looking into the origin is something he's been debating on doing. Still, he's occasionally stopped to watch the disasters... one of which has happened to be Komaeda's.]

[Munching on some chips, he just slowly blinks down at the god.]

A) Sunshine Struggle

[Ken's discovered something useful - when it comes to practicing learning how to use borderlines, using them on actual ayakashi is way more interesting than practicing without a real target. And these ayakashi are small and harmless enough that the stakes for screwing up aren't particularly high, either.

So Ken's crouched on top of a bus stop roof - it's a good vantage point - and watching with alert eyes for any ayakashi moving around him. When he spots one, he flicks a borderline at it to mess with it, and gets very pleased with himself when he hits one and sends it scurrying. He doesn't even really care what they're doing, or if he's helping people or not; neither of his gods has actually commanded him to do anything about the ayakashi here, therefore he's just doing his own thing. So he'll use this time to get good at borderlines, so he can be useful to his gods when they do need him.

One minor side effect of Ken's antics, though; he might be getting too pleased with himself. He's in Wolf Channel at the moment - it's definitely the channel he feels the most comfortable in - and, as such, he has a tail. When he's pleased with himself, his tail wags. Which means that, periodically, there's some strange thudding noises on the roof of the bus stop as Ken's excitement gets the better of him. Maybe he startles you with the noise, or maybe you just want to nudge him to a different perch so he'll stop confusing/alarming Near Shore residents; a few people are muttering about ghosts.]


B) Taking Stock

[Ken is definitely rooting around the wreckage, without any apparent shame, and stuffing keychains into his pockets as they catch his eye. He doesn't seem to be actually prioritizing by rarity; he's mostly going by what's most colorful, or what looks cutest, or what's unique compared to the ones he's already got.

The question remains: why the hell is he, of all people, interested in cute cat keychains? (Not that, despite his dog associations, he has anything against cats; he has a Lion Channel, after all. But it just doesn't seem his style.)]


C) Bad Kitty

[With how many keychains Ken grabbed - there must be seven or so - of course at least one would have an ayakashi in it. He's lucky that he's not facing a pack, really.

An alarmed and enraged Ken has drawn the cat out of his god's temple, at least, to a more open area. And now he's facing off with this giant ayakashi, crouched on all fours, snarling, bristling all the way to the tip of his tail, with the ayakashi doing a cute little butt wiggle that's clearly about to lead to a rather less cute pounce at Ken.

That Ken isn't launching himself at the thing is a testament to how far he's come since his arrival in the Far Shore; he knows it'd blight him, and he wants to avoid that.
