[ Fuujin is not the only one keeping away from most of the festivities. Kenren's disapproval had a lot to do with the suddenness of the picnic and the suspicious effect the cherry blossom scent seemed to be having on people, but even if neither of those had been taking place, he'd still turn his nose up at this. The only cherry blossoms he was interested in were in the world below. Near shore? Whatever it was that people called it. ]

Pretty lousy attempt at distracting people from what happened, huh?

Ukoku's expression stayed the same, pleasantly bored, but his attention came slithering back. That was interesting, given that god designations were related to their former lives. Despite his initial assessment (still valid; only an idiot would brag to a stranger about being some kind of general adversary), it was hard not to entertain the idea of possibilities—more of a feeling than a thought; pure mercurial interest, like a ripple in still water.

"Mahakala," he said without hesitating, taking his cigarettes back with a friendly little smile. His thoughts surrounding that were nothing: it was just words, just a name. "I think that falls under the regular definition of 'god.' You're not really calling yourself that, are you? It's kind of a mouthful."

Re: Ukoku & Schuldig

Oh this guy is starting to get on Schuldig's nerves. He was like Crawford but worse. At least Crawford gave him indications of when he was doing a good job or bad job. This guy is just placid. A still pool, indeed, with only the barest ripple disturbing the surface. It'd have been boring if not for the fact that Schuldig was actively throwing rocks at it. That was what made it annoying. These weren't the kind of reactions he normally got from normal people. It didn't yet cross his mind that this guy could be an ally the way Crawford had become, because Schuldig was still riding high on his ego trip of becoming a god in the first place.

"At least my name's big enough to be satisfying," he replied in kind. He'd never even heard of Mahakala before. At least this guy wasn't hung up on pretending to be a god either, by the way his thoughts swirled. Schuldig only used his god-name because he didn't want to give a guy like this his real name.

PICNIC

[ So Harklight has come prepared as any good shinki who is into serving their lord god well. Harklight takes it to the extreme though and literally goes all out?! So he's brought a blanket and other things like napkins and beverages as well. Should you look like you're in need of some he might come over with a warm smile. ] Do you need anything else? I brought quite a few, not knowing if there would be any here for us. You're free to take as much as you like.

CHERRY BLOSSOMS

[ For some reason these plants are mesmerizing to him. Not just the affects the plants themselves are having on people, but Harklight is oddly fixated on them for reasons other then that. He feels like they're far too alien for him, something he's never even seen before and yet here were so many before him. ]

It's almost like staring at an alien planet... [ and then he might sway and lose his balance a little and crash into you?! His cheeks look a little flushed upon him turning towards whoever it was he so rudely knocked into. He'll bow a little, only it just leads to more swaying and he has to put up a hand on a trunk for support, ah. ]

My deepest apologies! I...don't know what's come over me.

Keito just ends up saying a lot of single words (Me! And! Your! etc.) while pointing back at the fire. After awhile it gets aggravating (and embarrassing) enough that he just grabs her by the wrist and tries to just... run away.]

It's frightening to think that either could vanish at any moment. [ She says this thoughtfully, thinking back to her own shinki. A part of why she works so hard is to bring peace and happiness for her shinki, of whom she knows his past and memories. She wants to make this new world and life for him the best possible, without the war and strife that living in Romance-of-the-three-Kingdoms-era China brought. ]

Little things like this, small celebrations to have with each other--... I think it shows that we can all come together and have fun, no matter what our background. What regrets we have-- we must work on them in the meantime, because our time is precious.

[People are complicated, especially the moral ones. Occasionally Schuldig latches onto branches of their thoughts he isn't entirely sure about, but then it works out like this anyway. He gets to learn what he wanted to know in the first place and what happens is exactly what he wanted to happen. He learns about the nature of this guy's relationship to his shinki and what he feels guilty about. It's several more bullet points of data to add to his mental file on the different 'Gods' running around here.

[There's no way for Schuldig to look innocent. It stopped being possible at like age 8, he's pretty sure. He always tries anyway. Sometimes people let him off the hook just because they have no evidence of what he did, even if he did jump away. ]

I don't know that there is a point, but I wouldn't say you're entirely dead either, would you? You still exist. The way we exist now can be a little frustrating, but you're still here to experience it. It just happens that the way we are doesn't make us invincible, either.

[Is that a nice enough answer? Maybe? Hopefully? To be honest, he doesn't particularly like thinking of the shinki as "dead" so much as "had died at one time". It's an important distinction.]

And yes, I want to protect you because you're my teammate. I wouldn't like to see you die regardless, but protecting my teammates is especially important to me.

[Shin-ah feels incredibly uncomfortable with this conversation. Something about this person's tone and word choices, the aggression conveyed in it, even if not necessarily directed at him... it makes him feel small. Nervous, like he's being scrutinized and judged in a negative way. This isn't helped by the fact that he's not actually sure about the answer. He thinks he was human, but there's something Different about his eyes. Something... not quite human. Something... dragon. Was he really human then, or just something that looked that way on the surface? Zeno calls him Blue Dragon, and it feels as right and natural as his name...]

I don't know...

[What he really means is "I don't know how to explain it" but the second half of the sentence is lost in his reluctance to speak and thus make himself more visible. More appealing is the idea of the ground simply opening up and giving him a cave to hide in.]

What? Unlike some of his friends...?

Omi wasn't sure what Schuldig meant by that. He couldn't say he qualified Nagi as a friend, though he was certainly an ally of sorts here. That was going to be awkward, if he ended up in a battle with Schuldig... dare he trust Nagi to use his telekinesis against Schuldig and not him? But why would he betray him, if he didn't remember Schuldig. And any attempt to help him remember would kill him. Kill both of them, most likely. Of course, maybe Schuldig would consider that a fair deal. Omi didn't trust the man to actually care about anyone but himself, which meant probably better to keep Nagi out of a confrontation.

The remark about his dead family stung for a moment and then rolled off Omi's back. He wasn't going to stew in turmoil about that here. Most of them deserved to die. Even now, Omi believed he'd done the right thing helping to destroy his father and brothers. Instead, he drew his water out of the large canteen strapped to his shoulder, eyes and ears alert for an ambush.

[Lu Meng casts a surprised look at Watanuki.] A difficult position, for a God of Mercy to have a shinki that turns into a weapon. The careful restraint and precision required for non-lethal technique is more of an intermediary level for the spear arts.

But I suppose ayakashi cannot be subdued by any other means apart from rending. I am no spear master, but neither am I unfamiliar with the weapon. If you are in need of some tutelage I would be glad to help.

No hazing intended, honest. And Arikado reaching up to brush away some hair - well, that was just a matter of making sure he was presentable, wasn't it? As opposed to a reaction to the twinge of pain.

"You're excused. And I have no doubts, Kuroko." A sacrifice, a self-consignment to flames- "Has he brought you up to speed on what is expected of you, Yurick?"

The idea is a bit frightening, transforming somehow into something else, but if he can be of use to his god then he won't fight it. A breeze catches his clothing and sweeps his thick bangs off his forehead. The red lines etched into his skin above his eyepatch are ironic to anyone who knows how he died, maybe even gently mocking.
